-1I- PATENT SPECIFICATION Australia Ms Rebecca Susan Bont Stockings 0 00 0 Provisional Patent Application: Filing Date: Inventor: PQ7837 30 May 2000 Rebecca Susan Bont -2-
STOCKINGS
Technical Field The present invention relates to stockings, also known as hosiery or pantyhose, and in particular to stockings with a non-slip sole.
Background of the Invention The soles of stockings, which are typically manufactured of nylon or silk, provide a low friction interface with the inner sole of a shoe being worn, with such an inner sole often being formed of either leather or a smooth synthetic material such as vinyl. When fully closed shoes are being worn with stockings, this low friction interface does not present major problems, however a difficulty arises when sandals, stilettos or other forms of open footwear are being worn, as the stocking clad foot tends to slip on the shoe inner sole when walking.
Objective of the Invention It is an objective of the present invention to overcome or substantially ameliorate the above disadvantage.
Summary of the Invention In a broad form the present invention provides a stocking having a sole provided with a non-slip outer surface.
o:oo• The non-slip surface may be provided by a material woven or knitted into said stocking sole.
20 The material may be latex rubber, polyurethane, silicon, plastic, nylon or rubber.
Alternatively said non-slip surface may be provided by a non-slip coating applied to said stocking sole.
The non-slip coating may be applied by heat set, spraying, laminating, brushing or dipping.
The non-slip surface may cover substantially the entire said stocking sole.
Alternatively, said non-slip surface may only cover a portion of said stocking sole.
-3- Detailed Description of the Preferred Embodiments The stocking of the present invention are applicable to all forms of stockings including pantyhose and fishnet stockings. The invention is applicable to stockings of various fibre materials, particularly nylon.
The stocking sole is provided with a non-slip outer surface by any of various methods.
It is envisaged that the non-slip surface may be provided by a material which is applied to the stocking sole. Such a non-slip coating may be applied by any of various processes, including heat set, spraying, laminating, brushing or dipping. The coating could be applied to the stocking sole after manufacture of the basic stocking product, or could be applied to individual fibres prior to weaving of the stocking.
If a non-slip surface is to be applied after manufacture of the basic stocking product, the stocking can be stretched over a last and the non-slip coating brushed onto the stocking sole by hand with a brush or by suitable machinery. Alternatively, the non-slip product may be sprayed onto the sole, with an instrument such as a spray gun, aerosole can or machinery giving the effect. The.non-slip coating may be latex rubber, polyurethane, silicon, plastic, nylon, rubber or any of other various suitable materials which would be appreciated by the person skilled in the art.
20 If the non-slip surface is to be applied to individual fibres prior to manufacture of the stocking, the fibre which is to make the stocking sole could be run through a latex solution and allowed to dry, thus providing a latex rubber coated fibre which would then be knitted to form the stocking S sole.
The non-slip surface may cover the entire sole of the stocking, or may *:be provided over only a portion of the sole. The stocking can be stretched over a last and silicon, latex rubber or any non-slip product applied to the sole and allowed to set. The non-slip product may be applied with an instrument such as a syringe or eye dropper or machinery giving the same effect. Once 30 dry, the stocking can be removed from the last. The individual beads of nonslip material might be applied in any of various patterns or shapes including lines, checks, swirls, grids, squares, circles or other shapes.
In an alternative embodiment, the non-slip surface can be provided by a non-permanent peel off sticker applied to the sole of the stocking once the person is wearing the stockings. The sticker, having one side grippy and one side sticky can be easily applied to the sole of the stocking mainly under the ball of the foot and the heel areas. The disposable stickers, now applied to the sole of the stocking gives the wearer considerably less slippage of the foot in the shoe as the wearer walks.

Claims (3)

1. A Stocking which presents non-slip properties by means of a non- slip coating applied to the sole. This may be applied before or after the manufacture process, and may be in the form of a disposable sticker which adds grip to the sole of any stocking or hosiery which enables the wearer of open footwear to wear stockings and to prevent or substantially reduce slippage while walking.
2. The non-slip stocking of claim 1 wherein the non-slip coating is applied by any various processes including heat set, spraying, laminating, brushing or dipping using various non-slip products such as latex rubber, polyurethane, silicon, plastic, nylon or rubber.
3. The non-slip stocking of claim 1 and claim 2, wherein a pair of stockings or pantyhose have a permanent or non-permanent means of reducing slippage by permanently coating the sole of the stocking or by a non-permanent fixture being a disposable sticker.
