Abstract

The invention relates to a method for determining the germinability of seed particles, especially cereals, wherein a1) the seed particles are irradiated with light, said irradiation is terminated and at least one characteristic value of light emitted by the seed particles upon termination of said irradiation process is measured; and/or a2) at least one characteristic value of light emitted by the seed particles without any external light stimulation is measured; b) germinability is concluded from the measured characteristic value (s). The inventive method is characterized in that the water content of the seed particles is also measured and in step b) the measured water content is taken into account so that dependence of the characteristic value (s) of emitted light on water content is substantially corrected. The invention also relates to a suitable device and to the use of a light emission measuring device and/or water content measuring device for determining germinability.
