Abstract

The snug chair is designed to be used in different environments from the modern lounge room to a teenager's bedroom. With its unique style and pearlescent colours combined with a funky flair the snug chair infuses fun and excitement into clubs and bars or into any social scenery. Designed to look elegant as well as flamboyant with its curves and flowing arches the snug chair can also be used to complement public spaces such as hotels and corporate buildings. The snub chair design's form offers users comfortable flexible seating and back support to give a feeling of weightlessness and relaxation when sat on. The concept came from an eperimentation of a one piece material such as a cylinder moulded and twisted to form the base backrest armrests and seat area in an ergonomic and stylistic way. The design intent is for the chair to start with the front mouth opening and extend and flair out to form the back rest and back opening. The seat area is an ergonomically designed dip and the arm rests are a result of this. No area of the snug has a sharp edge. All surfaces are curved and organic and the edges are all filleted and smooth. One of the main design features of the snug is the flexible low comfort seating it provides. The repeated and evenly spaces slats of the chair are flexible enough to follow the contours of the user's body when sat on yet strong and wide enough to carry a great load. Combined with the glossy bright orange finish on the underside of the chair along with it's the curvaceous form the snug's cuts and the slats gave................ and low sitting comfort.
