Title of the Invention
Telecommunication Device with Speech Enhancement Facility
Technical field of the Invention
This invention pertains to telephonic and telecommunications devices and, more particularly it relates to telecommunications device with speech enhancement facility.
Background of the Invention
Telecommunication device comprises of portable device for receiving the acoustic signals from destination caller. The persons having hearing impairment, reduces the audio capabilities, cannot utilizes telecommunication devices such as mobile telephones, landline phones. Hearing impairment, in general, is broadly categorized as conductive and sensorineural depending upon the location of damage in the auditory system.
Sensorineural hearing impairment takes place due to damage to the transduction mechanism of the inner ear. Age related auditory dysfunction is commonly termed as presbycusis, which includes degenerative changes in the auditory system such as hardening of the basilar membrane. Age-related hearing loss includes high-frequency sensitivity loss, which disrupts speech comprehension in proportion to the sensitivity loss. It is often at ages 55 to 65 that the high frequency response in the speech range begins to be affected. Presbycusis patient usually know when they are being spoken to, but they may not always understand what is said. There is no known prevention for presbycusis. The net effect of passing a sound through a hearing aid is to make the sound louder through amplification. The hearing aid with amplification cannot correct discrimination or differentiation of words.
US 6,606,391 teach the filter bank structure which provides a flexible compromise between processing delay, filter sharpness, memory usage and band interaction. The filter bank has an adjustable number of bands which provides a selectable shift of band frequencies to one of two discrete sets of centre frequencies. The drawback associated with said prior art is the use of Discrete Fourier Transform in prior art for the processing as it is not capable for multiresolution analysis of signal. Also, as auditory filters represent octave frequency band, the prior art has same constant bandwidth for bands.
