Description

AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT NOVEL INNOVATIVE BEVERAGE ICE
Field of invention
The present invention/innovation relates to the method in which consumer beverage ice is packaged, transported, distributed, stored, and presented to the general public for use in both alcoholic/non-alcoholic beverages and/or as cooling agent in cool storage devices. The following statement is a full description of this invention:
Background
[0001] Consumer beverage ice in general and customarily often consist of pre-bagged small ice cubes. Made offsite and delivered to retail outlets bagged and frozen or sometimes made onsite and sold as several separate small ice cubes frozen and bagged together. Transportation, handling, and storage of cubed ice in plastic bags is cumbersome, labor demanding and results in a high percentage of losses due to bag breakages and melting. Often these bags of ice cubes are weeks or days old, stale with an undesirable odor due to transport or storage, partially melted, crushed, or agglomerated into chunks of ice that are too large for consumers to readily use. When these ice cubes are used as a cooling agent in cooling devices such as cooler boxes (i.e., chilly bins, esky's, ice boxes, camp fridges etc.) the cubed ice melts resulting in a liquid slurry that sloshes about the contents of the cooler box. The consumer is left with contaminated icy water not usable as beverage drinks ice and eventually the melted cold water will be thrown out and wasted.
[0002] The present innovation seeks to address the difficulties and ineffectiveness of cubed bagged ice in a novel more effective method of beverage ice packaging, transportation, storage, presentation for sale and overall usefulness to the consumer.
[0003] Reference to any prior art in this specification does not constitute an admission that such prior art forms part of the common general knowledge.
Description
NOVEL INNOVATIVE BEVERAGE ICE
[0004] This innovation has specifically been devised in order to provide a novel and improved method of production, packaging, transportation, storage and presentation of beverage ice for consumption with less overall wastage and a superior consumer experience.
[0005] A novel innovative method of packaging, distribution, stowing and presentation of beverage ice in accordance with this innovation comprises filtered, purified or drinking water to be contained, sealed and frozen within food grade Polythene continuous cylindrical plastic tubing, embodied as an individual pouch/battery/tubular shaped unit comprising a polythene or similar flow wrap, wherein the flow wrap is closed by end seals at two opposed ends and a fin seal extending in a longitudinal direction of the packaging between the end seals.
[0006] The exact volume and dimensions of the pouch/battery/tube flow wrap as stated in paragraph [0005] may vary but once frozen should ideally fit comfortably inside the average beverage drinks glass which is approximately 400ml to 500ml.
[0007] When beverage ice is needed to cool a beverage, a single flow wrapped ice tube/battery/pouch is opened and inserted into the beverage glass to cool the contents.
[0008] Should these individually packaged frozen units happen to melt in a cooling device as referred to in the background statement above for whatever reason it can easily be re-frozen for later use as required without any wastage or contamination.
[0009] For ease of packaging, transportation, storage, and presentation to the consumer these ice pouches/batteries/tubes may be packaged together in a stackable and biodegradable or recyclable cardboard box.
[00010] The size and dimension of said recyclable cardboard box in above paragraph to be approximately divisible by the dimensions of a standard Australian pallet. For example, but not limited to and may vary, 132mm high x 174mm wide x 388mm long for effectiveness of palletization, weight distribution, transport, and storage. Said cardboard box can also comfortably fit into the tray/drawer of a standard consumer home fridge.
[00011] The cardboard box is embodied with a viewing window, cutout carry handles for convenience and stack tabs for ease of transport, stack ability and expedient handling.
[00012] After use by the consumer said biodegradable cardboard box can be used as fire kindling or be recycled.
[00013] Packaging a variety of liquid substances in plastic pouches or flow wrap are known in the prior art in general.
[00014] Folding cardboard boxes of various sizes and shapes that are stackable and suits palletization is also know in general.
[00015] Mere reference to this prior art herein should not be construed as an admission that such art constitutes common general knowledge in relation to this innovation.
[00016] However, packaging and manufacturing consumer beverage ice in individually usable polythene flow wrap tubes/batteries/pouches as presented in this innovation for convenient separate use and re-freezing if needed introduces a novel manner of manufacture and improved method of usage limiting potential contamination and wastage.
[00017] Similarly, packaging together for transporting, storing, and offering these innovative beverage polythene flow wrap ice tubes/batteries/pouches in the manner as embodied herein possibly with a recyclable cardboard box is similarly novel and an inventive step in the field.
[00018] The innovation may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of preferred embodiments of the invention which: -
[00019] Drawing 1, Figure 1 is an isometric view of the ice tube/battery/pouch comprising a food grade polythene or similar cylindrical flow wrap, wherein the flow wrap is closed by end seals at two opposed ends and a fin seal extending in a longitudinal between the end seals.
[00020] Drawing 1, Figure 2 illustrates a side view of ice tube/battery/pouch with a dimension which may vary. Ideal embodiment approximately 33mm - 35mm indicated by (A).
[00021] Drawing 1, Figure 3 illustrates another side view from a different angle of the ice tube/battery/pouch as embodied. Exact dimensions may vary.
[00022] Drawing 1, Figure 4 illustrates a top view with longitudinal fin seal (1) indicated and end seal at both ends (2) & (3) as indicated of the ice tube/battery/pouch with dimension which may vary. Ideal and preferred embodiment is for the fin seal to be approximately 160mm (C) long end-to-end with end seals approximately 60mm wide (E).
[00023] Drawing 2, Figure 5 is an isometric view of the recyclable cardboard box for packaging, transportation, storage, and retail presentation of ice tubes/batteries/pouches, containing several ice tubes/batteries/pouches as embodied. This box has convenient cutout carry handles (3) as indicated, stack tabs (1) and a content viewing window (2) as indicated. Exact dimensions may vary.
[00024] Drawing 2, Figure 6 illustrates a side view of cardboard box embodiment with dimension that could vary, but preferably suitable for effective and economical palletization of beverage ice tubes/pouches/batteries.
[00025] Drawing 2, Figure 7 illustrates a side view from the opposite angle to Figure 6 showing the ice tubes/batteries/pouches as packed inside described cardboard embodiment. The exact dimensions may vary, but preferably suitable for effective palletization based on standard pallet dimensions.
[00026] Drawing 2, Figure 8 illustrates a top view of cardboard box embodiment with viewing window and stack tabs with dimensions which may vary, but preferably suitable for effective palletization.
The claims defining this innovation/invention are as follows:
1. Drinking water, purified, filtered or otherwise to be contained, sealed and frozen as beverage drinks ice within food grade polythene or similar continuous cylindrical plastic tubing as individual pouches/batteries or tubular shaped units of variable size each comprising a flow wrap, wherein the flow wrap is closed by end seals at two opposed ends and a fin seal extending in a longitudinal direction of the packaging between the end seals.
