A SANITARY BIN AND A LID THEREFOR
Field of the Invention
The present invention relates to a lid for a sanitary bin which allows easy dispensing of sanitary bags and access to the bin for disposal of sanitary articles.
In particular, embodiments of the present invention relate to a combined sanitary bin and lid which can serve as a convenient means for providing sanitary disposable bags and a container for disposal of waste sanitary articles in a closed volume.
Embodiments of the invention have been developed primarily for use in dispensing of sanitary bags and disposal of sanitary items within domestic and commercial buildings and will be described hereinafter with reference to this application. However, it will be appreciated that the invention is not limited to this particular field of use.
Background
In a domestic setting, or small offices, motels and hotels and the like accommodation, it is usual to be supplied with a small container in toileting areas for disposal of waste tissue including sanitary napkins. In such environments, it is common to dispose of sanitary napkins by first wrapping used sanitary items in toilet tissue and then placing the wrapped item in the provided container. A number of problems arise with this. A primary problem is that leakage occurs and the tissue wrapping can become saturated with biologicals and become unsightly, odorous and a point of contamination.
In communal areas such as public toilet facilities, office buildings including schools, commercial business sites, which are shared by people, collection bins for waste paper towels are often provided and in the case of female toilets there is often provided a separate sanitary bin in each toilet cubicle for receiving waste sanitary napkins.
P10469.AU Specification final - 19/04/2021
-2
A conventional sanitary napkin collection bin used in communal facilities includes a hollow container with an openable top. When it is desired to discard waste, the lid is opened by sliding a top part, or stepping on a scaffold to pivot the lid, or even an infra-red sensor designed for non-touch opening, the waste is discarded, and the lid closed manually when the lid is slidably closed or automatically when the scaffold is released.
A problem with conventional sanitary napkin collection bins is that waste sanitary articles can create an unpleasant odour and opening to discard waste disposes a user and the environment to unsightly waste and a permeating odour. The problem of disposing of waste sanitary articles is exacerbated in a domestic setting or small accommodation where it is a not uncommon practice to dispose of sanitary waste in a normal rubbish bin, which is collected and goes to landfill.
A system or means is required to allow for easy domestic use while substantially reducing reliance on paper tissue for waste disposal of sanitary napkins and the like with the resultant undesirable appearance and odour.
Embodiments of the present invention seek to provide a practical means to enable practical use while being effective to reduce unsightliness and odour, which will overcome or substantially ameliorate at least one or more of the deficiencies of the prior art, or to at least provide an alternative.
It is to be understood that, if any prior art information is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the information forms part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
Summary
The present invention in a first aspect is directed to a container comprising a receptacle body having a rim at an upper open end thereof and a lid therefore; a collar adapted to mount the rim; a compartment within the lid for a waste bag dispenser; a recessed hinge for the lid in the collar; recessed clamping members for the compartment in the lid to releasably secure the waste bag dispenser; and a push button release on the lid to open the lid for waste disposal.

The container of embodiments of the invention provides a practical and effective lid for a container which allows for separately storing a bag dispensing means and a container volume for receiving a waste product in the bag. Embodiments of the invention are aesthetically pleasing to the eye because hinges are recessed for clean lines and the container volume is sealed by the lid to substantially minimize permeation of odours from the waste. The container and lid combine to substantially reduce unsightliness and reduces reliance on paper tissue for waste disposal of sanitary napkins and the like. The result is an improvement in waste disposal and represents a departure from the prior art.
The present invention in a related aspect is directed to a container with a combined lid and compartment therefor, wherein the container comprises a receptacle body having a rim at an upper open end thereof; and wherein the combined lid and compartment comprises an assembly including a collar adapted to be mountable on the rim of the receptacle body; a lid for the receptacle body receivable by the collar, wherein the lid includes a compartment extending within the receptacle body when received by the collar; wherein the collar includes a recessed hinge for the lid; and wherein the compartment includes recessed clamping members for releasably receiving a bag dispensing means; and a push button release on the lid to open the lid for waste disposal.
The combined lid and compartment can further include a compartment lid for closing the compartment, and a recessed hinge for the compartment lid in the lid.
The recessed clamping members can be resiliently biased by the compartment to a holding condition to secure the bag dispensing means within the compartment. The clamping members can be moved away from the holding condition by applying a force away from the bias to allow removal of and replenishment of the bag dispensing means within the compartment.
There is further described a sanitary container or bin comprising: a shaped hollow body having a floor and dependent walls ending in an upper rim forming a collar; a lid for closing and opening the shaped hollow body for depositing waste; a recessed hinge in the collar for the lid; a compartment in the lid for a waste bag dispenser; recessed clamps for the waste bag dispenser in the compartment to releasably secure the waste bag dispenser
