DESCRIPTION TITE OF THE INVENTION
1 / The title of the Invention is Anti-Vi antiviral plastic shopping cart handle.
DESCRIPTION FIELD OF THE INVENTION
1 / The field of theInvention is for the push handles of supermarket shopping trollies
DESCRIPTION BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION
[ 0001 ] The AntiVi invention was borne out of work done on another similar invention that was submitted to IP Australia in late 2020 and known and registered as No Germ handle for supermarket carts. This application was lacking in various areas and after several communication exchanges with Examiner Mr. Kevin Restrick it was my decision to let this application expire on 22-3-21 and then using lessons learned lodge a new application-- hence this application. The expired application was number 2020101217
[ 0002 1 The main lessons learned in part from helpful information from Mr Restrick was that a proper formula for the invention should be supplied and to concentrate more on the features of the invention than on the benefits.I think It can be difficult to discern the difference-but I have sought to do that in this new application and show that the idea is novel and involves an Innovative step by making it possible for shopping trollies to be equipped with antiviral germ free handles Something that is not now available and is sadly lacking with shopping cart handles ranking at No 7 in an internet survey of the dirtiest items.
[ 0003 1 The former application was also thought to be too similar to other Patents that had antimicrobial content-- initially there were 7 Patents listed as objections by Mr Restrick. This number was reduced to 4 Patents.I still felt that my Patent was different and I offered some thoughts to Mr Restrick about why these 4 Patents were not similar to my Patent -just as they should not be compared to this invention.I have enclosed a copy of my objections about these 4 Patents that was sent to Mr Restrick.
[ 0004 1 One of the differences of my Patent to those 4 Patents was that my Patent had antiviral protection and antibacterial protection -while the 4 Patents only claimed antibacterial protection. Mr Restrick noted in his correspondence that my Patent could be referred to as Antiviral which I have made the decision to base this application on especially as I have now become aware as explained later here that the antimicrobial additive supplier Co Action in Taiwan can supply a formulation that is based mainly on having antiviral qualities.
[0005 1.1 have also become aware from from Co Action literature that their antimicrobial additive is based on Silver Ions that inhibits Covid 19-an extremely important consideration for supermarkets who have to now pay staff to swab cart handles or try unsuccessful spray stations as did one of my local supermarkets from a major chain. Therefore having virus and germ free cart handles will be extremely important for them.
DESCRIPTION SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
1 / The Inventor took several steps to research thefeasi.bility of the AntiVi Invention which included considerable time on the internet. Some ideas and Patents were found to be similar to my Invention-but none were based on anti viral permanent PVC sleeves on the shopping cart handles. The 4 existing Patents referred to in background to the Invention -- paragraph [ 0004 1 have quite different aspects and in reality have quite limited value.
2 / The Inventor also spent considerable time visit major supermarket chains in Melbourne inspecting shopping trollies and seeing what steps were in place to overcome the shopping cart handles being infected with germs that could include the virus Covid 19.There is not a lot the supermarkets can do beyond paying staff to swab the handles -which is only a stop gap measure and the cart handles soon become infected again. As also mentioned in background to the Invention paragraph [0005 1the Inventors local supermarket chain tried a system that was a spray station through which the trollies wer pushed-this did not work successfully and was stopped after a couple of months.
3 /TheInnovative step of the Invention requires antimicrobial additives being included in the foririulation when the PVC sleeves are manufactured- so it was a major consideration to see if an antimicrobial additive could be sourced so as to be able to produce the Invention.1 found most of the suppliers were in Asia with really only one in Australia Plastral who I found to be tardy in their response or lack thereof. There werea number in Asia Germ Armor in Singapore Co Action in Taiwan who the Inventor found to be of interest as both companies could supply the antimicrobial additives with Anti viral qualities which is vital to the Invention.
41 Contact was made by the Inventor with Co action in Taiwan and responses were received from Jacky who was most helpful sending literature and emails-see copies enclosed.Jacky also supplied formula for the PVC antiviral sleeves. This is confirmation that Coaction can supply the antimicrobial additive as required to produce the Anti Vi antiviral plastic shopping cart handles- and also as a back up supplier Gen Armor could supply the required antimicrobial additive.
/ Research by the Inventor discovered a local company in Melbourne -a pleasant surprise- who can produce to order a suitable PVC film for the Invention which is made locally and can have the antimicrobial additive included .These detals were confirmed 25-3--21 in a meeting with the company manager Matthew and Alan Thomas. The above information means the Invention can be made in Australa as required and confims the good sense of submitting this Patent Application. The company is Mojak Plastics'Thomastown Melbourne Victoria No outlay is-required for new equipment to produce the AntiVi. Inventdon.
DESCRIPTION ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION
1 / The AntiVi Invention is an attachable metal handle that is attached each end by a screw or bolt to the handle section of a shopping trolley. The handle is encased in any printing required and has a PVC antiviral plastic sleeve permanently attached to the handle by a compressed air systemAs shown in Page 6 Claims. These new antiviral handles can be exchanged with existing cart handles.
2 / The AntiVi Invention has antibacterial qualities but the main thrust of the protection is antiviral which is extremely important with the Covid 19 vims prevalent throughout theworld. The AntiVi invention is based on Silver Ions which is a powerful antimicrobial agent and the US E.PA has found it inhibits the growth of Covid 19 virus.
3 / The size of the metal handles can vary- but can be in the range of 40-70 cm. Length with a diameter in the range 15-50 mm.the PVC antiviral sleeves are made to suit the handles length. Thickness of the PVC antiviral filn can be between I and 2 mm.As shown in emails from Jacky at Coaction they can grind the antimicrobial additive finely to suit the thickness of the PVC sleeves-which shows their willingness to help make our Invention program successful.
4 How PVC film is made from a Google site The electrolysis of salt water produces chlorine which is then combined with Ethylene that has been obtained from ofiThe resulting element is Ethylene Di Chloride which converts at very high temperature to Vinyl Chloride Monomer. These Monomer Molecules are polymerised forming PVC Poly Vinyl Chloride
/ A person working in the plastics / polymer industry with reasonable experience and knowledge of the formula could produce PVC film with the addition of an antimicrobial agent purchased in from a company specialising in the manufacture and supply of antimicrobial additives based on Silver Ions. The formula for the Invention as supplied by CoAction is 97% PVC AND 3 %
antimicrobial additive.
6 / The formulation of antimicrobial additives based on Silver Ions being added to various types of plastic / polymers is a proven technology and is being used more in the production of food items medical equipment-toys personal products and in other industries.Production of the Invention also has strong expectations to work successfully in the area of antiviral shopping cart handles.
7 / To summarise the ease of producing the Invention to become a finished product is only 2 steps 1 / Produce the anti-viral PVC plastic sleeves-can be done by Mojak Plastics in Thomastown Vic. See para 5 Summary of Invention. 2 / Obtain the antiviral additive from Coaction [ finely ground ) see para 4 in Summary of Invention-which will be included in production of the PVC anti-viral sleeves.
