FIG. 3
A cleat system for a shoe
FIELD OF THE INVENTION
The present invention relates generally to a cleat for a shoe, and more particularly, to the cleat having a securing element for restricting the movement of the cleat.
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
A bicycle shoe cleat is usually fixed on the bottom of the bicycle shoe for being engaged with a clipless pedal of the bicycle, such that the user stably cast the pedaling force on the pedal, thereby increasing the pedal rising and lowering efficiency.
Traditional cleats are fastened to the bottom of the shoe using one or more securing elements and one or more screws. During cycling, sometimes the screw can easily slip out from the securing elements that lead to movement or misalignment of the cleat relative to the shoe when a user pedals the bicycle. The securing elements then fail to adequately secure the portion of a shoe base to the cleat. The lack of a secure connection between the existing shoe base and cleat allows the cleat to move relative to the shoe base. Therefore, the user has to replace the cleat assembly which leads to an increase in cost.
Accordingly, there is a need for an improves bicycle shoe cleat that enables securing of a cleat to a peddler shoe despite the slipping of a screw from the securing elements.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
One object of the present invention is to provide a cleat having a securing element that enables to retain the cleat to a bottom of a shoe and restrict the cleat movement despite fall out of a screw.
The present invention provides a cleat comprising a securing assembly wherein the securing assembly having a securing element and a coupling element, wherein the securing assembly is configured to retain the cleat with a bottom of a shoe. The securing element having at least one slot configured to aligned on at least one corresponding slot of the cleat when the securing element is placed above the cleat. The coupling element extends through the at least one slot of the securing element and the at least one slot of the cleat to affix the cleat with the bottom of the shoe.
In one exemplary embodiment, the cleat having a first surface, wherein the first surface having a protective layer to protect the cleat from damage.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
Embodiments of the present invention described herein are exemplary, and not restrictive. Embodiments will now be described, by way of examples, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective top view of a cleat for retaining a shoe on a cycle pedal, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective bottom view of a securing element, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention.
FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view of a cleat to be secured below the shoe using a securing assembly, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION
The aforementioned and further advantages and features of the present invention will be understood by reference to the description of the preferred embodiment in conjunction with the accompanying drawings where the components are illustrated based on a proportion for explanation but not subject to the actual component proportion.
FIG. 1 illustrates a perspective top view of a cleat (100) for retaining a shoe on a cycle pedal, in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The cleat (100) is in overall triangular shape preferably. The cleat (100) can be formed of natural or synthetic rubber, other elastomeric materials, similar materials, and/or harder plastic materials. With reference to FIG. 1 and FIG. 2, the cleat (100) having a first surface (102) and a second surface (106), wherein the first surface (102) having a protective layer (108) to protect the cleat from damage and the second layer (106) is configured to engage with a bottom of the shoe. The cleat (100) having at least one or more slots (104a, 104b, 104c) wherein each slot is in form of a longitudinal slot. In one example, the slots can be of any shape or size.
In one embodiment, the protective layer (108) prevents damages associated with the cleat (100) striking the ground and also provides enhanced traction to the cycle pedal. The protective layer can be formed of a wear-resistant material such as natural or synthetic rubber, other elastomeric materials, similar materials, and/or harder plastic materials. In another embodiment, the protective layer is around a perimeter of the cleat. In another embodiment, the cleat (100) is lightweight and remains attached to the bottom of the shoe using a securing assembly.
FIG. 2 illustrates a perspective bottom view of a securing element (202), in accordance with an exemplary embodiment of the present invention. The securing element (202) is having at least one or more slots (204a, 204b, 204c) wherein each slot is enabled to couple with a corresponding slot of the cleat.
FIG. 3 illustrates a perspective view of a cleat (100) to be secured below the shoe using a securing assembly, according to a preferred embodiment of the present invention. The cleat (100) is fastened to a pedal shoe using the securing assembly. The securing assembly having a securing element (202) and one or more coupling elements (302a, 302b, 302c). The securing element (202) is a T shaped element preferably. The securing element (202) having at least one or more slots (204a, 204b, 204c) enabled to affixed upon the first surface (102) of the cleat (100). The at least one or more slot (204a, 204b, 204c) of the securing element (202) are configured to align on the at least one or more corresponding slots (104a, 104b, 104c) of the cleat (100) when the securing element (202) is placed above the first surface (102) the cleat (100). In one example, the at least one or more slot (204a, 204b, 204c) of the securing element (202) is preferably three longitudinal slots. The one or more coupling elements (i.e., screws) (302a, 302b, 302c) extends through the at least one or more slots (204a, 204b, 204c) of the securing element (202) and to be screwed into the at least one or more slot (104a, 104b, 104c) of the cleat (100) to grip the cleat (100) against the shoe.
One object of the present invention is to provide a cleat having a securing element that enables to retain the cleat to a bottom of a shoe and restrict the cleat movement despite fall out of a screw.
In one embodiment a width of each slot (204a, 204b, 204c) of the securing element (202) is less than a width of each slot (104a, 104b, 104c) of the cleat (100) so that the slot of the securing element is easily aligned on the corresponding slot of the cleat (100). Further, the one or more coupling elements extend through slots (204a, 204b, 204c) and (104a, 104b, 104c) such that it's head bear against the cleat slots during gripping of the cleat against the shoe.
In another embodiment, the at least one or more slot (204a, 204b, 204c) of the securing element (202) are configured to align on the at least one or more corresponding slots (104a, 104b, 104c) of the cleat (100) to permit the one or more coupling elements (302a, 302b, 302c) to pass through and move longitudinally by being guided in the slot.
While the invention has been described in detail with specific reference to embodiments thereof, it is understood that variations and modifications thereof may be made without departing from the true spirit and scope of the invention.
