Improved tights Field of the Invention
[1] This invention relates generally to tights such as girls' schoolwear tights.
Background of the Invention
[2] Conventional girls' schoolwear tights are known to be uncomfortable and itchy. Furthermore, these tights tend to slip down and are easily torn when pulled up.
[3] Schoolgirls often wear three layers of undergarments comprising underwear, tights and a sports brief or similar to address certain of these problems but which is neither practical nor hygienic.
[4] The present invention seeks to provide a way to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least some of the deficiencies of the prior art, or to at least provide an alternative.
[5] It is to be understood that, if any prior art information is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the information forms part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
Summary of the Disclosure
[6] There is provided herein improved tights comprising a tight shorts section having a waist and shorts leggings for each leg. The tights further comprise a pair of "traditional" lower legging sections each extending from respective shorts legging down towards the foot.
[7] The tight shorts section comprises a first type of material and the lower legging sections comprise a second type of material.
[8] As such, the present tight shorts sections can be made from a non-itchy, more flexible, durable and comfortable material as compared to traditional school tights. The tight shorts section may be made from a weave of polyester/elastin or similar which has sweat absorbing and quick drying properties, making the tights cool and comfortable to wear.
[9] The tight shorts section may comprise ergonomic flat stitching. Furthermore, the tight shorts section may comprise interior or exterior concealed flat pockets for sanitary items.
[10] Furthermore, the material of the lower legging sections may meet school uniform requirements including opacity requirements. Furthermore, the material of the lower legging sections may comprise a high-quality stretch fabric that moves of the body, providing warmth and eliminating sagging. Furthermore, the material of the lower legging section may be fast drying. The second type of material may comprise wool or cotton or a blend of wool and cotton.
[11] In embodiments, each lower legging section covers the foot. Alternatively, each
legging section may comprise a stirrup foot from which the toes and heel extend. The stirrup
foot allows for socks of choice be worn under the tights according to user preference
including of differing thicknesses. Furthermore, the stirrup foot eliminates toe and heel
holes which are common with conventional tights.
[12] Each lower legging section may be stitched to respective shorts leggings at a seam.
The seam is preferably flat stitched for comfort.
[13] The seam may locate above the knee so as to be concealed beneath a skirt. For
example, the seam may locate between the knee and the crotch of the tights. In
embodiments, the tight shorts may cover most of the upper leg and, in this regard, the seam
may locate beneath a midpoint between the knee and the crotch and the knee.
[14] Whereas the present tights are described with reference to being for girls'
schoolwear, the present tights may have other applications also in embodiments.
[15] Other aspects of the invention are also disclosed.
Brief Description of the Drawings
[16] Notwithstanding any other forms which may fall within the scope of the present
invention, preferred embodiments of the disclosure will now be described, by way of
example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings in which:
[17] Figure 1 shows a side elevation view of tights in accordance with an embodiment;
[18] Figure 2 shows a front view of the tights; and
[19] Figure 3 shows a rear view of the tights.
Description of Embodiments
[20] Improved tights 100 cover from the waist 101 towards feet 103, covering the
buttocks 104, crotch 119, upper legs 106, thighs 117, knees 102, lower legs 105 and calf
118. In embodiments, the tights 100 cover at least a portion of the feet 103 also. The tights
100 have a buttocks section 109, upper leg section 110, lower leg section 111 and, in
embodiments, a foot section 112.
[21] The tights 100 comprises a tight shorts section 107 extending from the waist 101 and
having short leggings 120 for each leg. The tight shorts section 107 covers the waist 101,
buttocks 104, crotch 119 and upper thighs 117 of each upper leg 106.
[22] The tights 100 further comprises a pair of lower legging sections 108 each extending
from a respective shorts legging 120 to cover the knee 102 and lower leg 105.
[23] In embodiments, each lower legging section 120 extents to cover the foot, either
enclosing the foot or alternatively comprising a stirrup foot 114 comprising a forward toe
aperture 115 and a rearward heel aperture 116.
[24] The tight shorts section 107 comprises a first type of material and the lower leggings
108 comprise a second type of material.
[25] The tight shorts section 107 and each lower legging section 108 may transition at a
seam 121. As can be seen from Figures 2 and 3, the seam 121 may angle downwardly from
a medial side to a lateral side. During manufacture, the tight shorts section 107 and the
lower legging sections 108 may be manufactured separately and subsequently stitched
together at the seams 121. In a preferred embodiment, the seams 121 are flat-stitched
seams 121.
[26] The seam 121 locates within the upper leg section 110 between the crotch 119 and
the knee 102. In a preferred embodiment, the seams 121locate beneath a midpoint being
between the crotch 119 and the knee 102.
[27] The tight shorts section 107 may comprise a flat waistband 113. The first type of
material of the tight shorts section 107 preferably comprises a breathable stretchable fabric
which may comprise a polyester/elastin weave or similar.
[28] The tight shorts section 107 further preferably comprises flat-stitched seams.
[29] The tight shorts section 107 may further comprise a flat pocket (not shown), located
interiorly or exteriorly. In embodiments, the flat pocket is located just beneath the
waistband 113.
[30] The second type of material of the lower legging sections 108 may be opaque. The
second type of material may be thicker than the first type of material. The second type of
material may comprise cotton or wool.
[31] The foregoing description, for purposes of explanation, used specific nomenclature
to provide a thorough understanding of the invention. However, it will be apparent to one
skilled in the art that specific details are not required in order to practise the invention.
Thus, the foregoing descriptions of specific embodiments of the invention are presented for
purposes of illustration and description. They are not intended to be exhaustive or to limit
the invention to the precise forms disclosed as obviously many modifications and variations
are possible in view of the above teachings. The embodiments were chosen and described
in order to best explain the principles of the invention and its practical applications, thereby enabling others skilled in the art to best utilize the invention and various embodiments with various modifications as are suited to the particular use contemplated. It is intended that the following claims and their equivalents define the scope of the invention.
[32] The term "approximately" or similar as used herein should be construed as being
within 10% of the value stated unless otherwise indicated.
