An ad-hoc delivery service utilising excess space in private vehicles undertaking unrelated journeys.

Description

TransShare (TrS)
What is TrS: - This is a parcel/mail/package delivery system.
What is different about TrS: - In traditional transport companies transport vehicles are owned and operated by single or multiple companies who run the vehicles. In TrS any vehicle can become transport vehicle if parcel source and destination matches the vehicle source and destination. This new idea is to have vehicles travelling in cities and between different cities across whole country can be used as transport medium if they can have some space to carry cargo. There are lot of vehicles mostly passenger vehicles travelling between all cities and states for their own personal reasons which can be utilized as transport medium It can be observed that most of them travel without enough load on them it can range from 25% to % or even more. This un-utilized load can be used to transport cargo (which can range from letters to material)
How: - Most of us might have gone for long drives. As it can be clearly noticed that the vehicle loading is not 100% and underutilized. TrS system takes advantage of this system.
Example: - If a parcel needs to be delivered urgently from Canberra to Melbourne, traditional method is to hand it over to a transport company and wait to get it delivered and clearly there will be cut-off times before which parcel needs to be handed over to freight company or postal service. Here if a person X is travelling from Canberra to Melbourne, he can take the parcel and deliver the parcel from Canberra To Melbourne. He can utilize his vehicle loading properly and carry parcel and deliver it. This system has advantages as he is paying for his fuel on his own trip, loading vehicle in a better way and minimizing greenhouse gases as packages are moved by regular /general public avoiding special transport system.
The above is basic explanation.
What is required in place: There are two options which can be used one is peer-peer transport (ideal world) where the transporter picks cargo from source directly and delivers cargo to its destination and then he goes on his way to his destination. This type of system requires an app to be installed on phone. This is not really suited as there are security risks. The second is sender drops off cargo to a pickup point or it can be picked up from his place. This then goes through security screening and placed in queue. It is sorted in terms of ->Size ->Weight ->Priority ->Value. This is then placed in a safe box which suits above criteria Following are properties of safe box ->Physically tough ->Authentication enabled ->built in tracking ->Tamper alert mechanism
Once cargo is placed in one of the safe boxes it is then handed over to transporter who wishes to make his journey and deliver cargo
Advantages and disadvantages of system
Advantages:- better vehicle load utilization - Economical once the system penetrates to general public as they are carriers - advantage to transporters as they are gaining helping the system Potentially reduce greenhouse gases No dearth of transporters complete online tracking on mobile phone - system runs 24/7 Anyone can join upon passing mandatory requirements transparent system where movements can be tracked each and every meter.
Disadvantages - System is dependent on general public so as more join the network it becomes more efficient - collection and delivery points are to be constructed as source and destination will have major pickup and drop off points - delivery from pick up and drop off points also must be taken into consideration - as system relies on general public remote areas may or may not be well covered - security checks to be in place for general public and for cargo
Once system is fully developed once pickup is arranged from phone you can see the packet travel from source to destination. The heart of the system is Information Technology which makes connection between transporters and senders
A central system monitors requests and dispatches request to public who intend to travel from one location to another.
