Description

ELECTRICAL DEVICE
Technical field
The invention relates to an electrical device to be mounted to a wall. The electrical device comprises a mounting frame and a spirit level being fastened to the mounting frame. The electrical device can typically include fittings such as for example power outlets, switches, telephone or data connection points, timers, chargers or dimmers, or combinations thereof.
Background of the invention
Within buildings such as houses, electricians commonly install many electrical devices each comprising one or more of the above-mentioned fittings. Those electrical devices are usually mounted to a wall and fixed to the wall via fixation screws. Before a permanent fixation of the electrical device to the wall, the electrical device needs to be correctly aligned horizontally.
It is desirable to provide an electrical device which is easy to align horizontally, in particular when installed near the floor level.
Object of the invention
It is an object of the proposed invention to substantially overcome or at least ameliorate one or more of the above disadvantages, to meet the above desire, or to provide a useful alternative.
Summary of the invention
The present invention provides an electrical device to be mounted to a wall, comprising a mounting frame and a spirit level being fastened to the mounting frame, wherein the mounting frame comprises a cut-out portion allowing for the spirit level to be visible at least in a viewing direction which is substantially parallel to a surface of the wall.
Preferably the electrical device is easy to align horizontally, in particular when installed near the floor level.

In a preferred embodiment, the spirit level is fastened on an upper edge of the mounting frame.
In a further preferred embodiment, the spirit level comprises a central portion, the cut-out portion being positioned next to the central portion of the spirit level, preferably above the central portion of the spirit level.
This embodiment enables a more precise horizontal alignment of the electrical device.
In a further preferred embodiment, the cut-out portion extends to the surface of the wall.
This embodiment enables a more precise horizontal alignment of the electrical device, in particular when the electrical device is installed near the floor level.
In a further preferred embodiment, the cut-out portion is of trapezoidal shape.

Detailed description of the preferred embodiment
As illustrated in particular in Figs. 1 to 9, the electrical device 20 according to the invention is to be mounted to a wall 100. The electrical device 20 comprises a mounting frame 30 and a spirit level 80, 90 being fastened to the mounting frame 30. The mounting frame 30 further comprises a cut-out portion 38 allowing for the spirit level 80, 90 to be visible at least in a viewing direction D which is substantially parallel to a surface of the wall 100.
In a preferred embodiment, the electrical device 20 can comprise at least two fixation screws 50. The at least two fixation screws 50 can be secured to the frame 30 in a resting position 22.
Figures 3, 4 and 6 to 9 show the electrical device 20 according to invention preferred embodiment with the two fixation screws 50 each being in the resting position 22. Figures 10 to 16 show the electrical device 20 according to the invention with the two fixation screws 50 each being in an insertion position 24. Figures 18,19 and 21 to 26 show the electrical device 20 according to the invention with the two fixation screws 50 each being in a fixation position 26.

The mounting frame 30 can comprise at least two fixation holes 31. Each of the fixation holes 31 is at least partially traversed by the corresponding fixation screw 50, in either the insertion position 24, the resting position 22 or the fixation position 26.
The fixation screw 50 can comprise a head portion 52, an unthreaded neck portion 54 and a threaded portion 56, as can be seen in particular in figures 27 and 28. The screw 50 can further comprise a flattened tip portion 58 configured to avoid damage to a packaging of the electrical device 20.
The fixation hole 31 can be configured to permit the insertion of the threaded portion 56 in the insertion position 24. The fixation hole 31 can be configured to prevent the removal of the fixation screw 50 from the fixation hole 31 in the resting position 22 and/or in the fixation position 26.
In the insertion position 24, the fixation screw 50 can be inclined with respect to the plane of the frame 30 and/or with respect to the surface of the wall 100 with an angle of approximately 132°. In the resting position 22, the fixation screw 50 can be inclined with respect to the plane of the frame 30 and/or with respect to the surface of the wall 100 with an angle of approximately 27°. In the fixation position 26, the screw 50 can be substantially perpendicular to the plane of the frame 30.
The fixation screw 50 can thus be inserted in the fixation hole 31 in an angular orientation of the fixation screw 50 corresponding to/parallel to the insertion position 24. After the insertion of the fixation screw 50 into the fixation hole 31, the fixation screw 50 can be swivelled into the resting position 22, as shown in particular in figure 17.
According to the exemplary embodiment, the mounting frame 30 further comprises at least two latching means 32 each for securing one of the at least two fixation screws 50 to the mounting frame 30 in the resting position 22.
According to the exemplary embodiment, the at least two fixation screws 50 each comprise a head portion 52 and an unthreaded neck 54 portion next to the head portion 52, the neck portion 54 being secured to the latching means 32.This can be seen in particular in figures 6 to 9.
In the resting position 22, the head portion 52 of the screw 50 can be received in a receptacle 33. The receptacle 33 can comprise a first wall portion 34 and a second wall portion 36. A lower face of the head portion 52 can come to rest on the first wall portion 34 in the resting position 22. A lateral face of the head portion 52 can come to rest to the second wall portion 36 in the resting position 22. The latching means 32
2019101661 20 Dec 2019 can be configured to hold the fixation screw 50 in the resting position 22 where the head portion 52 is received in the receptacle 33.
In the resting position 22, the neck portion 54 can further rest on a resting portion 40 of the frame 30. The fixation hole 31 can be configured to prevent the threaded portion 56 from passing through the fixation hole 31 in the resting position 22 and/or in an inclination of the screw 50 parallel to the inclination of the screw 50 in the resting position 22.
The fixation screw 50 can be moved from the resting position 22 to the fixation position 26 by moving the neck portion 54 out of the latching means 32 and by rotating the fixation screw 50, as depicted in figure 17. The rotation of the fixing screw 50 can be induced by a fulcrum formed by the resting portion 40 of the frame 30, if the electrical device 20 is held in a horizontal orientation, as depicted in figure 17.
According to the exemplary embodiment, the electrical device 20 further comprises at least two lids 60 each attached to the mounting frame 30 and each covering a head portion 52 of one of the screws 50. This embodiment provides a better protection of the electrical device 20 against splash water and humidity.
According to the exemplary embodiment, the lids 60 are each attached to the mounting frame 30 in a pivoting manner, each lid 60 being configured to pivot around an axis of rotation A which is parallel to the mounting frame 30. The lids 60 can each comprise at least one protrusion 62. The protrusion 62 can be received in a recess 39 of the frame 30 to hold the lid 60 in position, in particular in an open position of the lid 60, as depicted for example in figures 6 to 20. This embodiment can particularly be seen in figures 34 and 35.The axis of rotation A can be positioned above the fixation holes 31.
In an alternative embodiment, the lids 60 can be attached to the mounting frame 30 in a way allowing for a sliding displacement of the lids 60 parallel to the frame, in particular a horizontal displacement or a vertical displacement.
Electrical device 20 according to the invention can comprise one, two or several spirit levels 80, 9O.The spirit levels 80, 90 can be mounted on the mounting frame 30.The electrical device 20 can comprise an upper spirit level 80 and a lateral spirit level 90. The upper spirit level 80 and the spirit level 90 can be oriented orthogonally with respect to each other. This allows for a horizontal and vertical mounting of the electrical device 20 on the wall 100.

The mounting frame 30 can comprise a cut-out portion 38 allowing for the spirit level 80, 90 to be visible at least in a viewing direction which is substantially parallel to a surface of the wall 100. This embodiment is depicted in particular in figure 36.
The spirit level 80, 90, in particular the upper spirit level 80 can be fastened on an upper edge 35 of the mounting frame 30. The lateral spirit level 90 can be fastened on a side edge 37 of the mounting frame 30.
The spirit level 80, 90 comprises a central portion 82, 92, the cut-out portion 38 being positioned next to the central portion 82, 92 of the spirit level 80, 90, preferably above the central portion 82, 92 of the spirit level 80, 90. When the electrical device 20 is correctly horizontally aligned, an air bubble of the spirit level 80, 90 is positioned in the central portion 82, 92. The central portion 82, 92 of the spirit level 80, 90 can be delimited by two markings 81. The cut-out portion 38 is preferably larger than the central portion 82, 92 in the longitudinal direction of the spirit level 80, 90, as can be seen in particular in figure 5c.
The cut-out portion 38 can extend up to the surface of the wall 100. This allows for a better visibility of the spirit level 80, 90 in a viewing direction parallel to the wall 100.
The cut-out portion 38 can be of trapezoidal shape. The smaller base of the trapezoid formed by the cut-out portion 38 can be arranged next to the wall 100.
As depicted in particular in figures 5a and 5b, due to the cut-out portion 38, the spirit level 80 is visible at least in the viewing direction D which is substantially parallel to a surface of the wall 100. This facilitates the visibility of the spirit level 80, 90 for a person P installing the device 20 on the wall 100, in particular when the electrical device 20 is installed near the floor level F, as depicted in figure 5b.
The cut-out portion 38 also enables a bigger viewing angle β as compared to a viewing angle a of an electrical device without such a cut-out portion 38, as shown in figure 5b.
Figure 5c shows a detailed view of the electrical device 20. The spirit level 90 is fastened to the side edge 37 of the mounting frame 30.
The terms above, below, top, bottom, lateral etc. refer to the horizontal mounting of the electrical device 20 on the wall 100.

Claims (5)

1. An electrical device to be mounted to a wall, comprising a mounting frame and a spirit level being fastened to the mounting frame, wherein the mounting frame comprises a cut-out portion allowing for the spirit level to be visible at least in a viewing direction which is substantially parallel to a surface of the wall.
2. The electrical device according to claim 1, wherein the spirit level is fastened on an upper edge of the mounting frame.
3. The electrical device according to any one of the claims 1 or 2, wherein the spirit level comprises a central portion, the cut-out portion being positioned next to the central portion of the spirit level, preferably above the central portion of the spirit level.
4. The electrical device according to any one of the claims 1 to 3, wherein the cut-out portion extends to the surface of the wall.
5. The electrical device according to any one of the claims 1 to 4, wherein the cut-out portion is of trapezoidal shape.
