Description

SHOWER DIVERTER ASSEMBLY
FIELD [0001] The invention concerns a shower diverter assembly, particularly but not exclusively, a shower diverter assembly for use in diverting water between a fixed showerhead and a handheld showerhead.
BACKGROUND [0002] A shower is an installation in a house where a person bathes under a spray of water emanating from a showerhead with one or more nozzles. The simplest types of showers include a single overhead showerhead with nozzles for dispensing water unto a user. Such showerheads are secured to a shower wall and can be pivotally adjusted to aim water down onto a user. More complex showers include both an overhead showerhead and a handheld adjustable showerhead. The handheld showerhead includes a hose which enables a user to move the showerhead around in order to spray water to different parts of the user’s body. Handheld showerheads are also useful for bathing young children and pets.
[0003] In order to direct water respectively between the fixed showerhead and the adjustable showerhead a shower diverter is required. Such diverters typically include a valve assembly and an actuator lever. By manipulating the actuator lever a user can divert water as required to either the overhead showerhead or the handheld showerhead.
[0004] Water is typically supplied to a showerhead via a mixing valve which can be adjusted by a user to ensure the water being dispensed is at a desired temperature. The mixer is installed to be in fluid communication with the shower diverter. One difficulty which plumbers at times encounter when installing a diverter is that the pipe providing water from the mixer is located at a position which is not suitable for the shower diverter at hand. Such pipes are normally located in one of two typical heights relative to a shower floor which require two different types of diverters. If the plumber does not have the appropriate diverter with them, they are required to cease installation of the shower until an appropriate shower diverter has been sourced with the resulting waste of time and cost.

[0018] Figure 7 is a perspective view of an embodiment shower diverter attached to an embodiment conduit; and [0019] Figure 8 is a front view of the shower diverter and embodiment conduit of Figure 7.
DESCRIPTION OF PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS [0020] Figures 1 to 6 show a shower diverter assembly, generally indicated with the reference numeral 10. The shower diverter assembly 10 is operatively adapted to divert water between (i) a fixed showerhead 12 and (ii) a handheld showerhead 14. The handheld showerhead 14 includes a hose 16 as shown. The hose 16 enables a user to move the showerhead 14 around in order to dispense water to different portions of a user’s body.
[0021] The shower diverter assembly 10 includes a shower diverter 18 having a diverter inlet 20 for coupling with a non-illustrated conduit in fluid communication with a water supply. The shower diverter 18 includes a first face 22, having a first diverter outlet 24, and an opposing second face 26 having a second diverter outlet 28. The shower diverter 18 encloses a nonillustrated diverter valve assembly operatively adapted to divert water from the diverter inlet 20 to the first and second diverter outlet 24, 28 respectively. The diverter valve assembly is attached
2019100670 20 Jun 2019 to an adjustor 29 adapted to adjust the diverter valve assembly to cause water to be fed to the fixed showerhead 12 or the handheld showerhead 14.
[0022] The shower diverter assembly 10 further includes an elongate conduit 30, shown in Figure 7 and 8, operatively associated with the shower diverter 18. The conduit 30 is operatively adapted to couple respectively with the first and second diverter outlet 24,28. The shower diverter assembly 10 further includes a hose coupler 32 operatively associated with the shower diverter 18 and adapted to couple with a hose coupling formation 34 of the hose 16 of the handheld showerhead 14.
[0023] Figure 1 shows a first shower installation 36 wherein the hose coupler 32 is adapted to couple with the conduit 30, shown in Figures 7 and 8, when the conduit 16 is coupled to the second diverter outlet 28.
