Description

TITLE: MULTI-FUNCTION LIGHTING DEVICE
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION (a) Technical Field of the Invention
The present invention is generally related to multi-function lighting devices, and more particular to a multi-function lighting device capable of illumination and power provision.
(b) Description of the Prior Art
Various outdoor activities such as camping and picnic are gaining popularity among modem people. Electricity is often required during these activities to power stereos, microphones, ovens, etc. Conventionally, people would extract power from the battery of a motor vehicle. Then, a long cable is usually required, and the vehicle battery sometimes is depleted to start the vehicle. Keeping the vehicle running at idle may also cause pollution and shortening of the vehicle’s operation life. Extending an indoor wall socket outdoor usage is troublesome and costly.
R.O.C Taiwan Patent No. M297573, titled Portable Power Device, teaches a device providing electricity during outdoor activities. This device however is not able to offer illumination, and can only provide an AC power. Therefore, popular electronic devices such as smart phones cannot be charged, 20 limiting its convenience and applicability.

DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
The following descriptions are exemplary embodiments only, and are not intended to limit the scope, applicability or configuration of the invention in any way Rather, the following description provides a convenient illustration 5 for implementing exemplary embodiments of the invention. Various changes to the described embodiments may be made in the function and arrangement of the elements described without departing from the scope of the invention as set forth in the appended claims.
As shown in FIGS. 1,1A, IB, and 2, an embodiment of the present invention teaches a multi-function lighting device including a base member 1, a telescoping member 2, a power member 3, and a number of electricity storage elements 4 °
The base member 1 provides an accommodation space 10, and includes a power socket 11, a number of first connectors 12, and a lighting module 13.
Inside the accommodation space 10, there are two electrical contacts 14 and a track 15. The track 15 includes an upper lateral section 151 and a lower lateral section 152 °
The telescoping member 2 includes a number of lateral partitions 21, a wireless charging module 22, and a handle 23. A storage space 211 is provided
2019100476 02 May 2019 between two neighboring lateral partitions 21. The lateral partition 21 under each storage space 211 has a number of indentations 24. Each indentation 24 has a second connector 241 inside. The telescoping member 2’s circumference has an electrical contact 25 and a protrusion 26 °
As shown in FIGS. 1 A, IB, 1C, and ID, the power member 3 may be positioned inside the base member 1 or the telescoping member 2. In the present embodiment, it is placed on a bottom side inside base member 1 (as shown in FIG 1). The power member 3 is electrically connected to the power socket 11. Each first connector 12 is electrically connected to the power member 3. One end of the power member 3 is electrically series-connected to the lighting module 13 and one of the electrical contacts 14. The other end of the power member 3 is electrically connected to the other electrical contact 14 (FIGS. 1C and ID). When the multi-function lighting device is used in a motor vehicle, a power cord 18 connecting the cigarette lighter (FIG IB) is plugged into the power socket 11 to charge the power member 3. Alternatively, when the multi-function lighting device is used indoors, a power cord 17 connecting the wall socket (FIG 1 A) is plugged into the power socket 11 to charge the power member 3 by the mains through a AC/DC conversion module 16 electrically connected between the power socket 11 and the power member 3.
2019100476 02 May 2019
As shown in FIG 1, each electricity storage element 4 has a connector 41 and, when it is placed inside one of the indentations 24, its connector 41 is coupled to the second connector 241 inside. In alternative embodiments, the second connector 241 may be a connector with an extension cable. In the present embodiment, the electricity storage elements 4 may be mobile power supplies or rechargeable batteries.
The present embodiment is operated as follows. The multi-function lighting device is first connected to a wall socket by the power cord 17 so that the power member 3 is charged by the mains. Alternatively, the multi-function lighting device is connected to a motor vehicle’s cigarette lighter through the power cord 18 so that the power member 3 is charged by the vehicle battery. When the power member 3 is fully charged, the power cable 17 or 18 is removed, as shown in FIG 2. The telescoping member 2 is then removably plugged into the accommodation space 10 by sliding the protrusion 26 along the track 15. As the protrusion 26 moves into the lower lateral section 152, the telescoping member 2 is completely housed in the accommodation space 10 and locked to the base member 1. By using the handle 23, the entire multi-function lighting device then may be hand-carried conveniently to any place.
As shown in FIGS. 1C, ID, 3, and 4, in an outdoor environment such as a
2019100476 02 May 2019 ίο camp site or when the telescoping member 2 is inside the accommodation space 10, turning the telescoping member 2 relatively to the base member 1 causes that the electrical contact 25 electrically closes the two electrical contacts 14 and the lighting module 13 is turned on (FIG 4), thereby providing illumination. In the present embodiment, twisting the telescoping member 2 and turning on or off the lighting module 13 is conveniently achieved using the handle 23.
As shown in FIGS. 1 and 5, when the protrusion 26 moves into the first lateral section 151, the storage space 211 is exposed. The electricity storage elements 4 in the storage space 211 may be removed to charge people’s electronic devices or to power electrical appliances (such as fans, ovens, microwave ovens, stereos, microphones, etc.). The multi-function lighting device therefore provides both electrical power and illumination. If the electricity storage elements 4 are rechargeable batteries, they may be designed to conform standard battery styles. As shown in FIG 6, electronic devices (such as a smart phone 100) may be directly charged by the wireless charging module 22, or through wire connections to the first connectors 12. Additionally, a luminescent light source 27 may be configured on the telescoping member 2, as shown in FIG 1. Then, the multi-function lighting device may function as a beacon during the night or in the dark. The
2019100476 02 May 2019 luminescent light source 27 may be powered by its own battery, or by the power member 3.
As described above, the present invention, therefore, provides a multi-function device capable of both illumination and electricity provisioning.
The multi-function lighting device as such is highly convenient and applicable to outdoor activities.
While certain novel features of this invention have been shown and described and are pointed out in the annexed claim, it is not intended to be limited to the details above, since it will be understood that various omissions, 10 modifications, substitutions and changes in the forms and details of the device illustrated and in its operation can be made by those skilled in the art without departing in any way from the claims of the present invention.
