Description

FOOD PREPARATION DEVICE [0001] The present invention relates in general to food preparation devices, and in particular to food preparation devices designed to heat and process automatically the food being prepared and previously placed in a processing container by the user. Typically, the invention relates to a food processor having a container in which the user places ingredients, which is then closed by a lid, and the food processor then automatically prepares a ready-to-eat dish by heating and processing the ingredients of the processing container.
[0002] Food processors are known in the prior art, such as the one presented in document WO2014/026866 Al. On the other hand, the food preparation device disclosed in this document is complex, since it comprises a lid which can be locked onto the processing container by longitudinal shafts anchored in a vertical return of the food preparation device. Consequently, it is necessary to provide a complex and sturdy frame (thus forming a gooseneck), which is costly and bulky. Consequently, access to the processing container is limited by these side locking members, and the ergonomics of use is limited. Finally, the control of the locking members requires the operation of a gear motor, which takes a long time and may cause the user to have to wait for this.
[0003] One purpose of the present invention is to resolve the aforementioned drawbacks of the prior art and in particular to propose a food preparation device (a food processor) with a simple and easy to use structure. Moreover, the invention proposes a method for control of the food preparation device which limits the waiting time, while assuring the safety of the user, even if hot food is present in the container.
-2For this, a first aspect of the invention relates to a food preparation device comprising:
- a housing,
- a container mounted on the housing and designed to receive the food being prepared,
- at least one movable working member arranged in the container and designed to process the food received in the container,
- a motor arranged in the housing and designed to place the movable working member in motion,
- a removable lid placing the container in a closed condition in which the container is closed by the lid,
- means for locking the lid on the container,
- the lid being designed to be moved when the container is in its closed condition between:
- an unlocked position on the container, in which the lid is released from the locking means, and
- a locked position on the container, in which the lid cooperates with the locking means, characterized:
in that the food preparation device comprises means for securing the locking of the lid, said locking securing means comprising:
- at least one locking member movable between a first position in which the movement of the lid from the locked position to the unlocked position is allowed, and a second position in which the locking member prevents the movement of the lid from the locked position to the unlocked position,
- a gear motor for moving the locking member between the first
-3position and the second position.
[0004] The food preparation device according to the above embodiment remains simple, since the locked (closed) position of the lid is secured by a locking member which prevents any relative displacement between the container and the lid such as is liable to allow a removal of the lid, and the locking member is an element which is easy to move, without exerting force on the lid (since it is already coupled with and locked on the container). In summary, the lid during use is first of all placed on the container by the user in order to close it (the lid is in the unlocked position), then the container still being closed, the lid is moved by the user to go into the locked position, and it can then be locked in this position by the means of securing the locking (the locking member).
[0005] In other words, the invention relates to a food preparation device comprising:
- a housing,
- a container mounted on the housing and designed to receive the food being prepared,
- at least one movable working member arranged in the container and designed to process the food received in the container,
- a motor arranged in the housing and designed to place the movable working member in motion,
- a removable lid adapted to close the container,
- means for locking the lid on the container,
- the lid being designed to be moved when the container is closed between:
- an unlocked position on the container, in which the lid is released from the locking means, and
- a locked position on the container, in which the lid is locked on the container by the locking means, characterized:
in that the food preparation device comprises means for securing the locking of the lid, said locking securing means comprising:
- at least one locking member movable between a first position in which the locking member is released from the lid in the locked position, and a second position in which the locking member is engaged with the lid in the locked position,
- a gear motor for moving the locking member between the first position and the second position.
[0006] Advantageously, the locking means of the lid on the container are of bayonet type. Such locking means are practical and enable a locking action simultaneous with the movement of the lid into the locked position. It should be noted that the locking means are distinct from the lock securing means. In particular, the lid is moved from its unlocked position to the locked position by the user, where it is locked by a locking member (a bayonet, for example). Then only the locking member of the lock securing means cooperates or becomes engaged with the lid to lock it. In other words, the locking member is not part of the securing means.
[0007] Advantageously, the lid is adapted to being moved between the unlocked position and the locked position by a movement of rotation relative to the container. In other words, the lid is mounted on the container by a pivot linkage.
[0008] Advantageously, the container is mounted removably on the housing and the housing comprises a support surface adapted to receive the container.
- 5[0009] Advantageously, the container comprises a handle and the locking member extends outside the handle when the locking member is in the second position. In particular, the locking member only protrudes with respect to the handle when the locking member is in the second position. In the first position, the locking member is advantageously cleared with respect to the handle, which allows the lid to pass easily from the unlocked position to the locked position.
[0010] According to one advantageous embodiment, the locking member is carried by a rod adapted to being moved by the gear motor in a movement of translation between the first position and the second position, preferably along a slide link. In other words, the rod is sliding. In particular, the movement of the rod is substantially parallel to the movement of rotation of the lid (this axis may also be an axis of symmetry of the container, and it is vertical when the food preparation device is resting on a horizontal plane). In other words, the rod has a locking portion forming the locking member. The locking member is thus perpendicular to a direction tangential to the movement of rotation to unlock/remove the lid, which provides an effective locking security. As an alternative, the locking member could be mounted in particular pivoting with respect to the housing. According to one advantageous embodiment, the locking member is formed by the rod.
[0011] Advantageously then, the gear motor is coupled to the rod in order to move the locking member between the first position and the second position. If so desired, the gear motor may in particular be coupled to the rod by means of a control arm. As an alternative, a transmission device may be arranged between the gear motor and the rod.
[0012] Further advantageously, the rod is carried by the container. The container thus forms a subassembly which carries the rod.
-6[0013] Again advantageously, the rod is associated with elastic return means adapted to move the rod into the first position from the second position. The food preparation device thus comprises elastic return means, such as a spring, to ensure or facilitate the return of the rod to the first position.
[0014] Again advantageously, the container has a side cover extending from the support surface to an upper portion of the container and the rod is situated primarily between the container and the side cover.
[0015] Again advantageously, the container comprises a handle and the locking portion of the rod extends outside the handle when the rod is in the second position. In particular, the rod only protrudes with respect to the handle when it is in the second position. In the first position, the rod is cleared with respect to the handle, which allows the lid to pass easily from the unlocked position to the locked position.
[0016] Alternatively, the rod is mounted in a slide link on the housing.
[0017] Advantageously, the locking member is a male index, and the lid comprises a female shape designed to receive the male index.
[0018] Advantageously, the gear motor is arranged in the housing. Again advantageously, the gear motor comprises a control arm. Again advantageously, the control arm comprises at least one end stop adapted to abut against the housing in order to define the first position of the locking member and/or the second position of the locking member. If so desired, the control arm may comprise a first end stop adapted to abut against the housing in order to define the first position of the locking member, and a second end stop adapted to abut against the housing in order to define the second position of the locking member.
[0019] Advantageously, the gear motor is designed to move the locking member from the second position to the first position.
-7[0020] Advantageously, the movable working member is a mixer, or a blender, or a beater, or a cutting element, or a chopper, or it comprises at least one mixing paddle, or it comprises at least one blade. Typically, such a movable working member can move in rotation on the inside of the container.
[0021] Advantageously, the food preparation device comprises means of detecting the position and/or the presence of the container and/or that of the lid. This will ensure that the securing of the lid locking will only be initiated if the food preparation device has recognized that the container and the lid are indeed present and coupled together.
[0022] Advantageously, the food preparation device comprises heating means designed to provide a cooking heat to the food received in the container.
[0023] Advantageously, the gear motor is arranged in the housing.
[0024] Advantageously, the movable working member is removable.
[0025] A second aspect of the invention relates to a method of control of a food preparation device comprising:
- a housing,
- a container mounted on the housing and designed to receive the food being prepared,
- at least one movable working member arranged in the container and designed to process the food received in the container,
- a motor arranged in the housing and designed to place the movable working member in motion by several operating speeds,
- a removable lid placing the container in a closed condition in which the container is closed by the lid,
- means for locking the lid on the container,
- the lid being designed to be moved when the container is in its closed condition between:
- an unlocked position on the container, in which the lid is released from the locking means, and
- a locked position on the container, in which the lid cooperates with the locking means,
- heating means designed to provide a cooking heat to the food received in the container,
- means of securing the locking of the lid in the locked position, the method of control involving the steps consisting of:
- automatically operating the means of securing the locking when starting the food preparation device, so as to lock the lid in the locked position,
- operating the means of securing the locking so as to unlock the lid:
• at the same time as the stoppage of the food preparation device, if a measured temperature of the container or the food being prepared is less than a predetermined temperature or if a setpoint temperature used prior to the stoppage of the food preparation device is less than a predetermined temperature or if the operating speed used prior to the stoppage of the food preparation device is less than a predetermined speed, • at the end of a rest time, counting from a stoppage of the food preparation device, if a temperature of the container or the food being prepared is greater than the predetermined temperature, and if the operating speed used prior to the stoppage of the food preparation device is greater than a predetermined speed.
[0026] The above method, with the lifting of the securing of the locking of the lid being done only after the rest time if the food is hot and has been strongly agitated, ensures safety of use. In fact, the compartment remains closed and the lid is locked in the locked position if there is a risk of overflowing or
-9boiling, after a significant heating or agitation. The rest of the time the lid can be removed immediately after the stoppage, which limits the needless waiting time (since there is no risk of untimely overflowing or boiling below the predetermined temperature or the predetermined speed).
[0027] Advantageously, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared is measured or estimated prior to or at the same time as the end of the food preparation. In other words, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared is estimated or measured at least during the last moments of preparation (in the last minute or in the last thirty seconds or during the last stage of the food preparation program) in order to determine whether or not to secure the locking of the lid after the stoppage of the movable working member and/or the heating means. The device may comprise a temperature probe, or it may take into account the temperature setpoint used during the food preparation program.
[0028] As regards the operating speed, the device may measure or estimate this prior to or at the same time as the end of the food preparation. In other words, the operating speed is estimated or measured at least during the last moments of preparation (in the last minute or in the last thirty seconds or during the last stage of the food preparation program) in order to determine whether or not to secure the locking of the lid after the stoppage of the movable working member and/or the heating means. The device may comprise an encoder, or it may take into account the operating speed setpoint used during the food preparation program. However, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared and the operating speed are not necessarily estimated or measured at the same moment, or simultaneously.
[0029] One variant of the second aspect of the invention relates to a method for control of a food preparation device comprising:
-10- a housing,
- a container mounted on the housing and designed to receive the food being prepared,
- at least one movable working member arranged in the container and designed to process the food received in the container,
- a motor arranged in the housing and designed to place the movable working member in motion by several operating speeds,
- a removable lid placing the container in a closed condition in which the container is closed by the lid,
- means for locking the lid on the container,
- the lid being designed to be moved when the container is in its closed condition between:
- an unlocked position on the container, in which the lid is released from the locking means, and
- a locked position on the container, in which the lid cooperates with the locking means,
- heating means designed to provide a cooking heat to the food received in the container,
- means of securing the locking of the lid in the locked position, the method of control involving the steps consisting of:
- conditionally operating the means of securing the locking when starting the food preparation device, or after the starting of the food preparation device, so as to lock the lid in the locked position only if a measured temperature of the container or the food being prepared is greater than a predetermined temperature or if a setpoint temperature used prior to the stoppage of the food preparation device is greater than a predetermined temperature, and if the operating speed used is greater than a
-11predetermined speed,
- operating the means of securing the locking so as to unlock the lid at the end of a rest time, counting from a stoppage of the food preparation device, if the means of securing the locking have been previously operated so as to lock the lid in the locked position.
[0030] The method according to the implementation described above provides for safety of use: the securing of the locked position of the lid is only activated when the food is greatly heated and agitated during the future preparation, and it will only be unlocked at the end of the rest time. In all other instances, the lid is not locked in the locked position.
[0031] Advantageously, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared is measured or estimated prior to or at the same time as the end of the food preparation. In other words, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared is estimated or measured at least during the last moments of preparation (in the last minute or in the last thirty seconds or during the last stage of the food preparation program) in order to determine whether or not to secure the locking of the lid. The device may comprise a temperature probe, or it may take into account the temperature setpoint used during the food preparation program. It may also be provided that the locking is initiated contingent upon the temperature set in a future cycle, even before the container or the food is at this temperature.
[0032] As regards the operating speed, the device may measure or estimate this prior to or at the same time as the end of the food preparation. In other words, the operating speed is estimated or measured at least during the last moments of preparation (in the last minute or in the last thirty seconds or during the last stage of the food preparation program) in order to determine whether or not to secure the locking of the lid. The device may comprise an
-12encoder, or it may take into account the operating speed setpoint used during the food preparation program. It may also be provided that the locking is initiated contingent upon the operating speed set in a future cycle, even before the movable working member is placed in rotation. However, the temperature of the container or the food being prepared and the operating speed are not necessarily estimated or measured at the same moment, or simultaneously.
[0033] Advantageously, the length of the rest time is greater than or equal to 5 seconds, and preferably greater than or equal to 10 seconds.
[0034] Advantageously, the predetermined temperature is less than or equal to 60° C and preferably less than or equal to 50° C, and the predetermined speed corresponds to a speed of rotation of the movable working member less than or equal to 250 rpm, and preferably less than or equal to 160 rpm.
[0035] Advantageously, the operating speed is a setpoint speed which is assigned to the movable working member during the pre-established operating program, or the operating speed is a measured speed of the movable working member, with the aid of an encoder, for example.
[0036] Advantageously, the stoppage of the food preparation device is a stoppage of the movement of the movable working member and/or a stoppage of the heating of the container.
[0037] Advantageously, the method of control involves, after the starting of the food preparation device, at least one stage involving the heating of the food being processed and at least one stage involving the processing of the food being prepared with the movable working member.
[0038] Advantageously, the method of control involves, after the starting of the food preparation device, at least one stage involving the mixing, or the blending, or the beating, or the slicing, or the chopping of the food being prepared.
-13[0039] Typically, for a food preparation device such as the object of the invention, a speed of rotation of the movable working member lies in the range of 0 to 300 rpm (or revolutions per minute, or min1) for example, and preferably between 0 and 200 rpm. Advantageously, the predetermined speed is for example a speed in the range of [70%-100%] and preferably [80%- 100%] of the maximum speed of the entire speed range indicated above. In other words, the locking of the lid is secured for any speed greater than, for example, 160 rpm and preferably for any speed greater than 250 rpm, if the temperature is greater than 50° C or 60° C, making it possible to prevent any opening of the working compartment if a risk of boiling or overflowing is present, even after the stoppage of the motor driving the movable working member.
[0040] Other characteristics and advantages of the present invention will appear more clearly upon reading the detailed description which follows of one embodiment of the invention, given solely as an example in no way limiting and illustrated by the appended drawings, in which:
figure 1 shows an exploded view in perspective of a food preparation device according to the present invention comprising a housing, a container and a lid;
figure 2 shows a partial section of the food preparation device illustrated in figure 1, in which the container is not shown, in order to reveal a rod which is part of the securing means for the locking of the food preparation device, said rod being in a first position;
figure 3 shows the partial section of figure 2, with said rod in a second position;
figures 4a and 4b show a perspective view of a gear motor which is part of securing means;
figure 5 shows a perspective view of part of the food preparation
-14device.
[0041] Figure 1 shows a food preparation device having a housing 40, receiving in removable manner a container 10 which can contain a movable working member 30 and which can be closed by a lid 20. The movable working member 30, here a slicing implement, is placed in the container 10, and is then coupled to a motor located in the housing 40, so as to be driven in rotation, once the container 10 has been closed with the lid 20.
[0042] The container 10 has two side covers 11 forming two opposite lateral extensions alongside the container 10, and terminating in two handles 12 in the area of the upper portion of the container 10, each of them comprising a slot 13. The lid 20 is adapted to being mounted on the container 10 by a movement of rotation (a pivot link being provided), so that a male portion of the lid 20 engages in the slots 13, moving from an unlocked position into a locked position in which the lid 20 is in a final position on the food preparation device. This locking system is a bayonet lock, for example.
[0043] In other words, the lid 20 in the unlocked position closes the container 10, and it can be freely removed, yet it can no longer be removed from the container 10 once it has been moved into the locked position, which provides for a safety of use when the movable working member 30 is in rotation in the container 10. The bayonet locking means mentioned above may be elastic, that is, the user when mounting the lid causes the lid to pass a “detent” in such a way that a flexible tab of the bayonet locking means forms an obstacle to its backward return during use. When the preparation is finished, the user turns the lid 20 in the opposite direction and unlocks the bayonet locking means by forcing it to pass the “detent” once more, and the lid 20 can be removed by making it pivot.
-15[0044] The food preparation device may also comprise heating means to heat and/or cook the food being prepared. This typically involves a resistance heater placed in the housing 40, on the housing 40, on the container 10, or in the latter.
[0045] Typically, the food being prepared is placed in the container 10 with the movable working member 30, the lid 20 is placed on the container 10 in order to close it, then the lid 20 is pivoted to move from the unlocked position to the locked position, and a predetermined preparation program is selected by the user on a control panel 44 of the housing 40. The food preparation device may comprise means of detection (proximity sensors) which indicate that the container 10 is in place, and that the lid 20 is indeed in the locked position, before starting the preparation, by heating and/or processing the food being prepared.
[0046] During this preparation, a speed of rotation of the movable working member 30 can be set in a speed range from 0 to 300 rpm (300 min1), in stages, in a variable or constant manner. The motor located in the housing 40 is advantageously associated with a gearbox. The heating means can be chosen to produce a temperature up to 130° C in the food being prepared, for example.
[0047] Depending on the program selected, and especially when a risk of overflowing of the hot product is identified, it should be possible to lock the lid 20 in the locked position, even if the lid 20 is already locked in the locked position by the locking means described above.
[0048] Consequently, the food preparation device according to the present invention comprises means of securing the locking of the lid 20 in the locked position, as shown in figures 2 and 3, which are a partial cross section of the food preparation device along axis A-A of figure 1.
-16[0049] The means for securing the locking comprise in particular a rod lodged in one of the side covers 11 of the container 10, and a gear motor 51 having a control arm 51a, making the rod 52 slide relative to the housing 40 and to the container 10. In the present case, the rod 52 is mounted in a slide link on the container 10. However, one may contemplate, as an alternative, making the rod 52 integrated in the housing 40.
[0050] In figures 1 and 2, the rod 52 is flush with the upper surface of the handle 12, not going beyond it. The rod 52 is in a first position in which the lid 20, closing the container 10, can be freely pivoted relative to the container
10. The means securing the locking are said to be “deactivated”.
[0051] In figure 3, the rod 52 has been moved upward by the gear motor 51, causing it to extend by a height d beyond the handle 12, making the end portion of the rod 52 (a locking or engaging portion) forming a locking member penetrate into a female shape of the lid 20 so as to block the only degree of freedom (rotation) of the lid 20, which is thus locked in the locked position. The user cannot pivot the lid 20 to remove it from the container 10 as long as the rod 52 is in the second position, the locking member 53 preventing the movement of the lid 20. The means for securing the locking are said to be “activated”.
[0052] The first position and the second position of the rod 52 forming the locking member 53 can be defined in particular by one or more end stops of the control arm 51a of the gear motor 51, adapted for example to abut against the housing 40. As an alternative, one may provide at least one mechanical stop between the rod 52 on the one hand, and the housing 40 or the container 10 or one of the side covers 11, on the other hand, so as not to exert force on the lid 20 in the locked position. However, if the lid 20 is wrongly locked and the gear motor 51 is nevertheless started, the rod 52 will abut against the wrongly
-17positioned lid 20.
[0053] In order to make the rod 52 return to the first position, one must once more order the gear motor 51 to make the control arm 51a descend, and one may provide a return spring to facilitate the return of the rod 52 to its position.
[0054] In more detail, figures 4a and 4b show a view from two perspectives of the gear motor 51, which comprises the control arm 51a, having a rack 51b, and an electrical connector 51e. The control arm 51a forms a rack and pinion connection with the gear motor 51, and it is guided in a slide link by the plastic housing of the gear motor 51. The assembly is thus compact, and the control arm 51a carries two abutments 51c and 51 d each adapted to abut against a portion of the housing 40 to provide a direct end stop for the system. The abutment 51c provides the high end stop (rod 52 in the second position) and the abutment 5Id provides the low end stop (rod 52 in its first position).
[0055] Figure 5 shows a partial perspective view of part of the food preparation device, where one can see the gear motor 51 arranged in the housing 40, with the upper portion of the control arm 51a which is flush with the housing 40. Thus, when the user couples the container 10 (with the rod 52 lodged in the lateral extension 11) to the housing 40, the rod 52 finds itself opposite the control arm 51a, ready to be pushed upward in order to secure the locking of the lid 20.
[0056] As mentioned above, the locking of the lid 20 in the locked position is only done if a risk of overflowing of the hot product is identified. In particular, the food preparation device according to the present invention can implement a control method in which the means of securing the locking of the lid in the locked position are only operated if a speed of rotation of the movable
-18working member is greater than a predetermined speed, and if the temperature of the food being prepared is greater than a predetermined temperature.
[0057] According to a first variant of this method, one can arrange for the systematic actuating of the means of securing the locking so that the lid 20 is always locked in the locked position, and the means of securing the locking are maintained activated during a rest time (at least five seconds, and preferably at least eight or ten seconds) after the stoppage, only if the speed of rotation of the movable working member during the preparation cycle is (or was) greater than a predetermined speed, and if the temperature of the food being prepared is (or was) greater than a predetermined temperature. The user must then wait until the end of the rest time before being able to open the lid 20. If these two conditions are not met at the same time, the deactivation of the means for securing the locking is simultaneous with the stoppage of the food preparation device and the user can open the lid 20 at once.
[0058] In other words, according to this variant the locking of the lid 20 in the locked position is systematic, and the unlocking occurs either immediately or simultaneously with the stoppage of the food preparation device if no risk of overflow has been identified, or it is delayed if a risk of overflow has been identified (predetermined temperature exceeded and predetermined speed exceeded). Otherwise stated, the means of securing the locking are conditionally deactivated.
[0059] According to a second variant of this method, one may carry out the locking of the lid 20 in the locked position only if the two conditions are programmed (that is, at the starting of the food preparation device, for example simultaneously with the starting of the movement of the movable working member or even thereafter, yet before the speed exceeds the predetermined
-19speed and the temperature exceeds the predetermined temperature), or once these two conditions have been measured by the food preparation device (during its program). One may then maintain the lock securing means activated during the entire further use of the food preparation device, and during a rest time (at least five seconds, and preferably at least eight or ten seconds), after the complete stoppage of the movable working member and/or the heating. Thus, the opening of the lid 20 is impossible only when a risk of overflow exists.
[0060] In other words, according to this variant the lock securing means are only activated at the start or during the use if an exceeding of the predetermined speed and the predetermined temperature has been measured or provided for in the future cycle, and the locking is maintained briefly even after the complete stoppage of the food preparation device. One may arrange for the control panel 44 to alert the user as to whether the opening is possible or not. Otherwise stated, the lock securing means are conditionally activated.
[0061] The food preparation device thus comprises a control unit and means for measuring or acquiring the temperature, and means of measuring or acquiring the speed of the movable working member 30.
[0062] One may use the temperature of the heating means, the temperature of the container 10, or the temperature of the food being prepared and located in the container 10. The predetermined temperature may be 50° C or preferably 60° C.
[0063] As regards the speed of the movable working member 30, one may choose to activate the lock securing means (if the predetermined temperature is exceeded) as soon as a speed range is selected or measured (for example, the last stage of several preprogrammed speed stages), or as soon as
-20the selected or measured speed exceeds a particular value, such as 160 rpm, or more preferably 250 rpm.
[0064] Thus, by locking the lid 20 in the locked position during the rest time, after stoppage of the agitation and the heating of the food, once the speed exceeds the predetermined speed and at the same time the predetermined temperature is exceeded, an opening is not possible as long as there is a risk of unwanted overflowing and/or boiling.
[0065] It will be understood that various modifications and/or improvements, obvious to the person skilled in the art, can be made in the different embodiments of the invention as described in the present specification, without leaving the scope of the invention. In particular, reference has been made to a male engaging portion of the rod, which engages in a female shape of the lid 20, but one may provide a movable female engaging portion of the rod, which will couple to a male index of the lid 20. The locking member 53 actuated by the gear motor 51 is not necessarily carried by the rod 52. In particular, the locking member 53 10 may be mounted in pivoting manner with respect to the container 10 or with respect to the housing 40. The locking member 53 can be moved directly by the gear motor 51, or by a transmission device. If so desired, the locking member 53 can be associated with an elastic return means adapted to bring said locking member 53 back to the first position, to the second position, or to another position.
