Abstract
Normal NO-TILL seeding tools are made of steel and on the front of the tool are fitted with Tungsten Carbide to slow the wearing rate down. The steel behind the Tungsten Carbide wears very quickly and may bend and or loose the tungsten carbide over time.( Seeding profile and depth lost very quickly) The BLC Mounting increases the life of the tool to maintain seeding depth and profile much longer. Can also be fitted with more expensive products ( Black Laminated Carbide) to increase the life of the seeding tools 5-6 times longer than normal std No-Till Tools. Maintaining No-Till seeding profile and depth is very important in gaining greater crop yields.
Description
WEAR PROTECTION INSERT FOR A SEEDING TOOL
Field [0001] The present invention relates to a wear protection insert for a seeding tool. Background [0002] Seeding tools are typically made of steel and have tungsten carbide fittings disposed on their front edges for reducing wear and tear. The steel behind these fittings wears rapidly in use causing the fitting to bend or loosen over time. This adversely affects the seeding profile and depth of the seeding tool thereby impairing its effectiveness.
[0003] In this context, there is a need for improved wear protection for seeding tools. Summary [0004] According to the present invention, there is provided a wear protection insert for a seeding tool, comprising: a substantially vertical leading edge; a lowermost edge extending horizontally from a lower end of the leading edge, wherein a horizontal portion of the lowermost edge is contiguous a sloped portion in alignment with a bottom edge of the seeding tool; a trailing end extending vertically upward from the lowermost edge; a substantially planar top surface comprising a rectangular protrusion aligned with a slot at a bottom of the seeding tool; and an upper edge extending laterally from an upper end of the leading edge towards the substantially planar top surface such that the leading edge is distanced from a leading edge of the seeding tool.
[0005] The sloped portion may be deposited at angle of approximately 135 degrees the horizontal portion of the lowermost edge.
[0006] A thickness of the insert may correspond to a thickness of the seeding tool.
[0007] The insert may be made of tungsten carbide.
Brief Description of Drawings [0008] Embodiments of the invention will now be described by way of example only with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure 1(a) is an isometric view of a wear protection insert according to an example embodiment of the invention;
Figure 1 (b) is a side view of the wear protection insert; and Figure 1 (c) is a top view of the wear protection insert.
Description of Embodiments [0009] Referring to the Figures, an example embodiment of the present invention provides a wear protection insert 10 for a seeding tool. The insert 10 comprises a substantially vertical leading edge 12 and a lowermost edge 14 extending horizontally from a lower end 16 of the leading edge 12, wherein a horizontal portion 18 of the lowermost edge 14 is contiguous a sloped portion 20 in alignment with a bottom edge of the seeding tool.
[0010] The insert 10 further comprises a trailing end 22 extending vertically upward from the lowermost edge 14, a substantially planar top surface 24 comprising a rectangular protrusion 26 aligned with a slot (not shown) at a bottom of the seeding tool and an upper edge 28 extending laterally from an upper end 30 of the leading edge 12 towards the substantially planar top surface 24 such that the leading edge 12 is distanced from a leading edge of the seeding tool.
[0011] More particularly, the sloped portion 20 is preferably deposited at angle of approximately 135 degrees the horizontal portion 18 of the lowermost edge 14 and a thickness of the insert 10 corresponds to a thickness of the seeding tool.
[0012] The insert 10 is preferably made of tungsten carbide.
[0013] The insert 10 is adapted such that it may be mounted to a seeding tool and advantageously protects the tool from wear and tear in use. The insert 10 is, in particular, configured to be mounted to, and provide wear protection for, no-till seeding tools.
[0014] The insert 10 prolongs the life and utility of seeding tools and enables their depth and profile to be maintained for longer periods of time. This advantageously allows for improved crop yields to be achieved using such tools.
[0015] For the purpose of this specification, the word “comprising” means “including but not limited to”, and the word "comprises" has a corresponding meaning.
[0016] The above embodiments have been described by way of example only and modifications are possible within the scope of the claims that follow.
Claims (4)
