Abstract

Abstract A system and method of extracting text and image from an identity card including documents (such as a person's Driver's Licence or Passport including a mobile phone bill) by utilising Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Facial Recognition (FR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as machine learning computer algorithms and technology together with various in built layered security measure requirements (such as PIN password and/or contemporaneous photographic image) for verification of a person's digital identity online for an Agent by implementing an online id checker application ("OIC App") layered over the Agent's online website transaction page.

Claims (9)

  1. Claims A system and method of extracting text and image from an identity card including documents such as a person’s Driver’s Licence or Passport (including a mobile phone bill document) utilising Optical Character Recognition (OCR), Facial Recognition (FR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as machine learning computer algorithms and technology together with various in built layered security measure requirements (such as PIN password and/or contemporaneous photographic image) for verification of a person’s digital identity online for an Agent by implementing an online id checker application (“OIC App”) layered over the Agent’s online website transaction page. One embodiment of the invention is the extraction of the data by the OIC App from a person’s Driver’s Licence or Passport (including a mobile phone bill document) in combination with Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Facial Recognition computer algorithms and technology to pre-fill a person’s name (and address if required by the Agent) to the Agent’s online website transaction page. The second embodiment of the invention utilises various in built layered security measure requirements (such as a Personal Identification Number password and/or contemporaneous photographic image of the person) prior to issuing a transaction validation code to the person/User via SMS to a mobile phone or by email to a computer (or tablet) confirming or verifying a person’s online digital identity for the Agent’s website’s transaction to proceed (eg. “OIC Transaction Passcode”). The third embodiment of the invention combines the utilisation of the OIC App’s Facial Recognition (FR) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) such as machine learning computer algorithms and technology to detect consistency and/or accuracy with stored images and data, and thereby to achieve a higher level of accuracy in verification of a person’s digital identity online for the Agent’s online website transaction. EXAMPLE(S) OF HOW IT WORKS To use the OIC App, a person/User or Agent must first register to obtain an OIC Account (ie. OIC Username) by:- Step l - Downloading the OIC App 1.1 The User downloads & opens the OIC App onto their mobile smartphone or a personal computer or tablet (which must have camera feature capability). 1.2 The OIC App Sign In (or Log In) dashboard will normally prompt the User for their OIC Username & OIC PIN. The dashboard will also feature a prompt below the Sign In prompts titled:-“Don’t have an account yet? To Register a new OIC Account 1.3 The User must check this icon to commence a new registration process. Step 2 - To Register a new OIC Account 2.1 The User is prompted to enter either their Mobile No. or Email Address. Note - this will be the User’s designated unique OIC Username. 2.2 The OIC App will send a system generated OIC Registration Passcode to the User via SMS (if Mobile No. supplied) or via email (if Email Address supplied). 2.3 The User then enters the OIC Registration Passcode. 2.4 Security Layer 1 - PIN If successful, the User is firstly prompted to enter a new OIC PIN (4 digits) for their new OIC Username account, (and to re-enter that OIC PIN as confirmation). 2.5 Security Layer 2 - SCAN The User is secondly prompted to take a photo/scan of their Driver’s Licence or Passport with their mobile phone or computer or tablet (ie. using the camera feature capability). 2.6 In the background, the OIC App will utilise Optical Character Recognition (OCR) and Facial Technology (FR) algorithms and technology to automatically read, decipher and record all personal details (except for the Licence No. or Passport No.). The OIC App will also record the photographic image of the User as depicted on the Driver’s Licence or Passport. 2.7 For Passports only, the User must also provide a copy of their most recent mobile phone bill document showing clearly their Mobile No. and billing address. The OIC App will utilise OCR technology again to automatically read, decipher and record the address details. 2.8 Security Layer 3 - SELFIE PHOTO The User is finally prompted to take a self-portrait of themselves using their mobile phone or computer or tablet (ie. using the camera feature capability). 2.9 In the background, the OIC App will utilise Facial Recognition (FR) and Artificial Intelligence (eg. machine learning) algorithms and technology combines to detect consistency and/or accuracy with stored images (eg. the photographic image of the User as depicted on the Driver’s Licence or Passport and any previous self-portraits). 2.10 Finally, the OIC App will automatically pre-populate the User’s details obtained by OCR function described at 2.6 above including the self-portrait described at 2.8 above onto a single bio page (ie. on the OIC App dashboard) for the User to confirm accuracy and completeness by prompting the User to check the: “Correct and Finish” icon. That’s it - the OIC Username (or OIC Account) registration is completed. IOC App in Action How does the IOC App work in the digital online world?
    1. At any stage of the Agent’s online website transaction (eg. most likely to be either at the start of a transaction), the Agent’s online website will prompt the User to enter their IOC Username (ie. their Mobile No. or Email Address). Note the IOC App’s Verification Request function will be layered onto the Agent’s online website. If the User does not have an IOC Username (ie. IOC Account), the Agent’s website will advise the User to download the IOC App onto their mobile phone or computer or tablet, and to then register a new IOC Username (ie. IOC Account) (see Steps 1 & 2 above). Once successfully registered, the User enters their new OIC Username as prompted on the Agent’s online website transaction page.
  2. 2. The User’s name (and address if required by the Agent) will be automatically pre-filled by the IOC App onto the Agent’s online website transaction page. The pre-filled name (and address if applicable) cannot be altered on the Agent’s online website transaction page.
  3. 3. The IOC App’s Verification Request function (still via the Agent’s website) will then request the User for a unique IOC Transaction Passcode for this website transaction.
  4. 4. The User opens their IOC App on their mobile phone or computer or tablet, and proceeds to Sign In on the IOC App dashboard.
  5. 5. The IOC App will state the name of the Agent seeking an IOC Transaction Passcode. The User checks the icon “Get ICO Transaction Passcode” next to the applicable Agent’s name to proceed.
  6. 6. The IOC App will require the User to enter their IOC PIN (ie. 4 digits). As an extra layer of security (if required by the Agent for more significant or important transactions), the IOC App may also ask the User to take a self-portrait photograph using their mobile phone or computer (ie. using the camera feature capability). The IOC App will utilise the Facial Recognition technology and Artificial Intelligent (AI) such as machine learning to verify the self-portrait photograph with previously stored images.
  7. 7. If IOC App’s Verification Request function is successfully completed, a unique IOC Transaction Passcode will be sent to the User via SMS to a mobile phone (if Mobile No. applicable) or by email (if Email Address applicable).
  8. 8. The User then returns to the Agent’s online website to enter the IOC Transaction Passcode.
  9. 9. And that’s it. The User’s digital identity has been verified online by the IOC App. As a result, the person/User may now proceed/continue to completion with their transaction on the Agent’s online website.
