COMPLETE SPECIFICATION
For an Innovation Patent
Invention title: “Hair Tie Holder”
Applicant:

Associated provisional applications:
The following statement is a full description of the invention, including the best method of performing it known to me:
Fieid of the Invention
O O o (N ο (N S' “Hair Tie Hoider” [001] The present invention relates to device for holding hair ties. Background to the Invention [002] Hair ties comprising an elastic loop are commonly used for tying up hair. It is usual to have a number of hair ties and it is common to desire a means to store the hair ties. The present invention relates to a device provided for conveniently holding a number of hair ties such that the hair ties are easily accessible as required.
Summary of the Invention [003] According to one aspect of the present invention there is provided a hair tie holder comprising a mount for securing to an external object and ring securable to the mount, wherein the ring includes a split to allow hair ties to be received onto and removed from the ring through the split.
[004] In a preferred embodiment, the mount comprises a base having a support extending outwardly from a first side thereof to engage the ring and a suction cup on a second side for engaging with a surface.
[005] Preferably the base comprises a disc and the support comprises a pair of arms defining a gap into which a portion of the ring is received.
[006] Preferably the arms are angled toward each other such that distal ends thereof are closer together than proximal ends thereof.
[007] Preferably adjacent surfaces of the arms are provided with arcuate recesses located adjacent each other to define a generally circular opening in the gap to receive the ring.
[008] In a preferred embodiment, the ring is circular and has a circular cross section.
r- ο (N
[009] In a further embodiment, the mount comprises a hook to engage with an external object and an eyelet through which a portion of the ring is received.

Brief Description of the Drawings [010] The invention will now be described, by way of example, with reference to the following drawings: [011] Figure 1 is an upper perspective view of a hair tie holder in accordance with the present invention; [012] Figure 2 is a front view of the hair tie holder of Figure 1; [013] Figure 3 is a side view of the hair tie holder of Figure 1; [014] Figure 4 is a rear view of the hair tie holder of Figure 1; [015] Figure 5 is an upper perspective view of a second embodiment of a hair tie holder; [016] Figure 6 is a front view of the hair tie holder of Figure 5; and [017] Figure 7 is a side view of the hair tie holder of Figure 5.
Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments [018] Referring to Figures, there is shown a hair tie holder 10 comprising generally a mount 12 and a ring 14. The mount 12 is provided for securing to an external object and the ring 14 is provided to receive a plurality of hair ties (not shown).
[019] The ring 14 comprises a loop formed from a suitable material on which hair ties may be secured. The ring 14 in the embodiment shown is circular in shape, however it will be appreciated that other shapes may be possible. The ring 14 includes a split 16. The ring 14 is formed of a resilient flexible material such that ends of the ring 14, either side of the split 16, can be flexed apart to create an opening. A portion of the hair tie is then received in the opening such that hair tie is supported on the ring 14. The ring 14 is formed of a suitable material having sufficient resilience and flexibility. The ring 14 may be formed, for example, from a plastic material. ο Η Ο (Ν δ' ιη Ο ο Ο (Ν [020] In the embodiment of Figures 1 to 4, the mount 12 comprises a base 18 and a support 20. The base 18 is attachable to an external object and the support 20 engages with the ring 14.
[021] The base 18 comprises a disc 19 and the support 20 extends outwardly from a first side of the disc 19. A second side of the disc 19 includes a suction cup 22. The suction cup 22 is provided to engage with a surface, such as the surface of a mirror. The suction cup 22 is provided with a tab 24 extending outwardly from the periphery thereof. The tab 24 is provided to aid in removing the suction cup 22 from the surface by pulling the tab 24.
[022] The support 20 comprises a pair of arms 26. The arms 26 extend outwardly from the first side of the base 18 such that a gap is defined between the arms 26. A portion of the ring 14 is received within the gap to support the ring 14 between the arms 26.
[023] The arms 26 of the support 20 are angled toward each other such that distal ends thereof are closer together than proximal ends thereof. Adjacent surfaces of the arms 26 are also provided with arcuate recesses 28. The arcuate recesses 28 on the arms 26 are located adjacent each other to define a generally circular opening in the gap to receive the ring 14, which has a circular cross section in the embodiment shown. The ring 14 can be engaged with the support 20 by pressing a portion of the ring 14 into the gap between the arms 26 to flex apart the arms 26. The arms 26 then flex back together to engage with the ring 14.
[024] Figures 5 to 7 show a second embodiment of a hair tie holder 10 in accordance with the present invention. The hair tie holder 10 includes a ring 14 of the same construction as the embodiment of Figures 1 to 4. The mount 12 however comprises a hook 30 and an eyelet 32. The hook 30 is provided
r- ο (N
O O r- o (N to engage over an external object to support the hair tie holder 10. The eyelet 32 is provided on an end of the hook 30 to define a hole into which the ring 14 is received. The ring 14 is received in the eyelet 32 by passing an end of the ring 14 at the spit 16 through the eyelet 32.
[025] The hair tie holder 10 may be supported from an appropriate external object by the mount 12 and hair ties placed through the split 16 to be supported from the ring 14. The hair ties can be conveniently removed from the ring 14 by simply pulling the hair ties through the split 16. The act of pulling the hair ties through the split 16 will widen the split 16 sufficiently for the hair ties to disengage from the ring 14.
[026] It will be readily apparent to persons skilled in the relevant arts that various modifications and improvements may be made to the foregoing embodiments, in addition to those already described, without departing from the basic inventive concepts of the present invention.
