Abstract
A lifesaving flotation device comprising a flying propeller driven vehicle controlled remotely by an operator using a radio frequency transceiver with additional radio frequency transceiver video link on board colour camera, GPS, powered by batteries and able to be utilised in all weather conditions.
Description
TITLE
Aerobuoy
FIELD
Lifesaving Device SUMMARY A flying personal flotation (lifesaving) device.
BACKGROUND
The timely rescue of distressed swimmers located in dangerous/hazardous ocean and / or water conditions presents difficulties and challenges. Traditional rescue methods can be slow to deploy and often involve the use of expensive equipment. Aerobuoy provides a fast cost-effective solution to the problem of deploying a lifesaving device to a distressed swimmer.
DESCRIPTION
[001] "Aerobuoy" is a remote-controlled life saving device, designed to provide a fast, effective and simple way to deliver a flotation device to a swimmer in distress using unmanned aerial vehicle ("UAV") drone technology. It Is a flying personal flotation device able to be operated in all weather conditions and all ocean and water types.
[002] The UAV drone part of the device is a basic quadrocopter, with four booms, four motors and a single multi-bladed propeller on each boom, It is battery operated. A camera and GPS are located within the device. The device is intended to be single-use only.
[003]The device is comprised of two (2) two equal/even layers of compressed foam positioned horizontally: a top piece and bottom piece. Sandwiched within the foam layers is a waterproof quadrocopter (drone). The device is round in shape, similar to a traditional life-saving buoy, without the hole in the middle. Four equally spaced symmetrical round holes are positioned within the foam layers and inside each hole is housed a propeller.
[005] Covering each hole on both the top and the bottom is a thin layer of mesh so as to prevent objects from coming into contact with the propellers from either the top or the bottom.
[006] Positioned equally around the outside of the device are two (2) sets of retractable handles (4 all up) for use by the distressed swimmer when the device has been deployed.
[007] The device sits dormant on the beach, armed and ready for flight, resting on a charging device. If a swimmer is in distress, an observer activates the device and the device is flown over to the swimmer and dropped into the water. The swimmer will hold onto the floating device until they are rescued.
[008] The device is controlled from the beach or remotely using a robust joystick, with two buttons - a green button to take off and a red button to land. A kill switch is activated when the device enters the water. The joystick is a simple left, right, forwards and backwards. Throttle movement is controlled by altitude algorithms, using 3 sensors; being a Z-accelerometer, biometric pressure sensor and a G.P.S. A camera is located within the device.
