Abstract
The "Induction Protector" is an insulating apparatus that separates an induction cooktop from a cooking vessel. The "Induction Protector" is used during the cooking process to both insulate the heat produced in the cooking vessel from the cooktop and also to maintain the aesthetic quality of the induction cooktop. The "Induction Protector" is a piece of insulating material with a high melting point whose diameter is proportional to the cooking vessel to be used.

Induction Protector
For many years there have been different types of cooking vessels and cook tops available for use.
Induction Cooktops have been in use both in residential and commercial applications since the 1970’s. Induction cooking provides faster heating and improved thermal efficiency with consistent heating and precise control, compared to cooking by thermal conduction (ceramic, gas). The induction element has heating performance comparable to a gas burner, but is significantly more energy-efficient and easier to clean. The surface of the Induction cooker (hob) is heated only by the vessel and as such, doesn’t reach the hazardous temperatures of an electric ceramic top, however, it can be hot enough to burn the skin of both adults and children.
An induction cooktop is simply an electromagnet you can cook with. Inside the glass cooktop, there's an electronically controlled coil of metal. When you apply power, you make a current flow through the coil and it produces a magnetic field all around it. Direct electric current applied through a coil produces a constant magnetic field; alternating current applied through the same coil will produce a fluctuating magnetic field that will, indirectly, produce heat in a magnetic vessel placed inside the field. In a nutshell, all an induction cooktop (hob) does is generate a constantly changing magnetic Held. It does not generate heat directly.
Because this field penetrates the surface of the cooktop (hob), people with pacemakers (or other medically installed electronic devices) or medically installed screws or splints/stints are strongly advised not to use induction at all. Also because the field penetrates the surface of the cooktop (hob), it is possible to remain within the field and separate the cooking vessel from the cooktop (hob) to insulate the cooktop (hob) from radiant heat produced in the magnetic induction process. 2016102041 27 Nov 2016
DESCRIPTIONS
The “Induction Protector” is a separating apparatus made from a suitably high melting point insulating material that incorporates layers of air in between the cooktop (hob) and the cooking vessel for radiant heat dissipation and ventilation.
For maximum stability, the diameter of the “Induction Protector” and amount of attached plinths varies in proportion to the diameter of the cooking vessel to be used.
The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention of which: FIGURE 1 is a plan view of a four pointed “Induction Protector” designed for use with smaller diameter cooking vessels featuring 4 spherical plinths. FIGURE 2 shows the elevation of the above “Induction Protector” FIGURE 3 shows a plan view of a six pointed (plinthed) “Induction Protector” for use with larger diameter cooking vessels. Extra points (or plinths) can be added to increase the stability of the “Induction Protector” to suit the different sizes and requirements of industrial or domestic cooking vessels. However, all plinths must retain the same height so as to remain inside the Induction field.
Claims (4)
- The claims defining the invention are as follows: CLAIM 1 Safety: Greatly reduces radiant heat from any cooking vessel heating up an induction cooktop.
- CLAIM 2 Safety: Can provide (depending on construction material) additional friction between cooking vessels and cooktop.
- CLAIM 3 Aesthetics: Eliminates scratching of induction cooktop from any cooking vessel.
- CLAIM 4 Aesthetics: Eliminates ‘ring bum’ forming onto induction cooktops from hot cooking vessels.
