Re-Useable Flood Shield
In recent years, Australian cities and towns have been subjected to serious flooding that has caused millions of dollars' worth of damage. This has then meant huge insurance payouts to repair the damage to the homes and businesses in each town affected. This innovation invention utilises previous innovation invention to quickly and effectively bolt down and secure steel 5 shields that will act as a barrier to the flood waters and prevent properties being damaged by the flood waters.
This Innovation Invention modifies the application of a previous innovation invention Patent Number 2012100167 that uses multiple interrupted threads to secure a part that needs to be 10 quickly secured to, and released from, a base. For a more detailed understanding of the multiple interrupted thread, Patent Number 2012100167 should be referred to.
This Innovation Invention utilises steel (or another appropriate material) plate that is bolted into the ground and sealed using rubber seals that will prevent water from entering into houses and/or businesses that are subject to damage from rising water caused by flooding. 15 The Re-Useable Flood Shield (RUFS)
Each RUFS Unit will have optimum dimensions, height of 1.5 m, length of up to 3m, such that it can be manhandled by two people, with the aid of two (or more) handles. Each RUFS Unit will have two triangular braces at right angles to the face of the RUFS that terminate with a male interrupted thread that will be bolted into a female interrupted thread that has been affixed into 20 a concrete footing at appropriate intervals. Each RUFS Unit will have a base with a recess that has a rubber seal inserted into the recess as well as a permanently affixed "FI cross sectional" rubber seal to one side. Each RUFS Unit will fit into the "FI Section Rubber Seal, giving it watertight integrity over the full length of the shield. Each RUFS will have a recess at each end that will accommodate a clamp that will secure one RUFS to another. 25 The RUFS Base
The RUFS will be seated upon concrete footings of an appropriate depth and width (to suit the ground conditions) providing a firm footing and will have extensions (at right angles) that will have the female interrupted threads permanently affixed, as well as a steel (or other appropriate material) guiderail that the RUFS will engage with the recess mentioned above. People, such as 30 State Emergency Service, can get the RUFS out of storage, and quickly insert (utilising the
Innovation Patent 2012100167 for the securing bolts) each RUFS Unit's Male Interrupted Thread into the female interrupted thread, and with the use of an extension pole, quickly secure the RUFS to the concrete footing. Another RUFS will then be slipped into the "FI cross-Section" rubber seal, and inserted into the female interrupted threads and secured. This process 35 continuing until the full shield is installed.
Where the shield needs to go around an object or turn a corner, the securing clamp will be made in the shape of a right other appropriate angle. A RUFS can be used to encircle a dwelling, or, can be anchored in a higher piece of ground, such as a hill or rise and continue around the dwelling ending in higher ground. The RUFS can also be used to protect a shopping or business precinct with one end being anchored to a higher piece of ground, or, if necessary, can fully encircle the precinct, or can be used to cordon off two ends of a street.

Claims (2)
- The claims defining the invention are as follows:1. A Re-Useable Flood Shield, in accordance with this invention, utilises a shield made of steel (or some other suitable material) that has handles for ease of movement, and male interrupted threads (as per Australian Innovation Patent 2012100167) that are integral to the reuseable flood shield unit and at the end of a reinforcing triangular wedge (one near each end of the shield) which aligns and is inserted into female interrupted threads affixed into a concrete footing (of suitable dimensions taking into account the type of ground). Each re-useable flood shield unit has affixed to one side, an interlocking "H cross-sectional" rubber seal that ensures that when a re-useable flood shield unit is affixed to another, the two shields are fully waterproof. The re-useable flood shield also has a recess at the top of each end where a securing clamp is affixed, locking the shields together. This securing clamp can also be made in the shape of a right angle, or some other angled setting so as to allow the re-useable flood shields to go around obstacles and/or corners. The concrete footing has a steel (or other suitable material) guiderail which assists in the engagement of the locking interrupted threads that secure the reuseable flood shield in place.
- 2. A Re-Useable Flood Shield substantially as herein before described with reference to Figures 1 - 4 of the accompanying drawings.
