Abstract
Innovation background The UNIVERSAL Brick clamp is designed to incorporate several of the current range of clamps on the market. It also takes into consideration new innovations and brick sizes in the construction industry that can't be covered by current clamps. In the past bricks were manufactured in only so many sizes and a range of clamps was designed to hold a bricklayers/masons profile pole to the brickwork. The clamp either had to reach across a 40mm profile and a full brick of approximately 230mm in length or a half brick 110mm depending on the layer of bricks he wished to clamp to. Now bricks are manufactured in several sizes and the current range of clamps will not fit all of them. Specifically, because some of the most common bricks used such as internal fast wall, have become longer and narrower. Individual clamps for every brick size is not practical for both cost and space so a sliding, reversible clamp that can be adjusted to reach from the regular to the extra-long bricks in one configuration and be reversed to bring the clamping distance down to be able to clamp on to the narrowest.

Description
The UNIVERSAL Brick clamp is a clamp constructed of two major components, consisting of one or more smaller components.
The first part of the main body (Part A) of the clamp is constructed from mild steel 160mm x 25mm x 5mm flat bar. 30mm from one end it has a 90 degree bend to allow insertion into the perpendicular joint behind a brick in its set position. The opposite end has a 10mm threaded rod protruding 30mm in the opposite direction for secure attachment through an elongated 10.5mm slot in part B with a wing nut and flat washer. The centre point of this rod is 15mm from the end.
There is also a 30mm x 10mm x 5mm lateral locating plate attached at 90 degrees to the 5mm edge that serves, in conjunction with the 10mm x 30mm threaded rod to ensure that part A and part B remain in their fixed and perpendicular position when secured together and in use. This extends from the end 30mm towards the 90 degree bend.
The second part of the body (Part B) of the clamp is constructed from 340mm x 25mm x 5mm flat bar. 45mm from one end it has a 90 degree bend. The outside 45mm face has a nut with a 10mm thread welded to the centre. The 10mm thread then continues through the 5mm flat bar to allow the passage of a 10mm threaded rod with a swivelling cup for the clamping face on the inside of the 90 degree angle and a 70mm x 8mm rod welded to form a T bar for tightening the clamp when in use on the outside of the 90 degree angle.
The other end of part B is rounded off at a radius of 12.5mm. There is also a 140mm x 10.5mm slot that has a radius of 5.25mm of each end and begins 7.5mm from the end. This horse shoe design allows part A to rotate around the end of part B, swivelling on the 30mm threaded rod and come back to face the opposite direction, without having to undo the butterfly nut to a point where the lateral locating plate on part A can be lifted over part B for reversal.
Claims (1)
- Claims A device constructed of steel, aluminium, brass or plastic that clamps a bricklayers/masons profile to a brick or block wall. It is constructed of two or more components and is adjustable in two places. Firstly being through an elongated slot that a fastening device such as a bolt or screw can pass along the length of until the desired position is reached before tightening in place with a nut, T-bar or wingnut. The second being a threaded rod with a cup to engage the surface to be clamped at one end, then a T-bar at the other to turn the threaded rod for smaller final adjustments. The device has a locating lug on the side of one of the major components to work in conjunction with the screw or bolt passing along the elongated slot to stop the two parts of the device losing their parallel positioning to each other.
