Abstract
An end cap for removably fitting to the mouth of a drinking bottle incorporates an "ice-pack" medium (1) and a flow passage (2) through which liquid can be poured from the bottle when the cap is fitted to the bottle, the passage having walls, in thermally conducting relationship with the medium. Figure 1
Description
END CAP
BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] This invention relates to an end cap of drinking bottles, particularly for cyclists.
[0002] Cyclists carry liquid for drinking in bottles but hitherto there has been no effective means for cooling this drinking liquid .
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0003] The object of the present invention is to provide an end cap of drinking bottles to reduce the above mentioned problems.
[0004] According to the invention there is provided an end cap adapted to be removably fitted to the mouth of a drinking bottle, the cap incorporating an “ice-pack” medium and a flow passage through which liquid can be poured from the bottle when the cap is fitted to said bottle, the passage having walls in thermally conducting relationship with the medium.
[0005] In another preferred embodiment, the flow passage is a straight passage extending through the cap.
[0006] In another preferred embodiment, the flow passage follows a circuitous path through the cap in order to increase the length of the passage through which the out-flowing liquid must pass, in order to increase the cooling effect.
[0007] In another preferred embodiment, the ice pack medium completely surrounds the passage, filling the volume between the passage walls and the outer wall of the cap.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0008] Figure 1 is a fragmentary diagrammatic view of the upper portion of the first embodiment of drinking bottle; [0009] Figure 2 is a diagrammatic sectional view of the second embodiment of drinking bottle; [0010] Figure 3 is a fragmentary sectional view of the upper end of the third embodiment of drinking bottle;
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0011] Referring to Figure 1, the first embodiment of drinking bottle has a cylindrical body 10 having at its upper end a narrow mouth 12 closable by a closure member in the form of a screw cap 3. The screw cap 3 has an internal volume filled by an ice-pack medium 1 which is totally and permanently enclosed within the end cap 3.The ice-pack medium surrounds a straight through passage 2, the walls of which are in thermally conducting relationship with the ice-pack medium 1. The end cap 3 has a depending skirt 4 provided with internal screw threads which co-operate with the external threads 5 on the outer periphery of the mouth 12.
[0012] With the end cap 3 removed, the body 10 is filled with drinking liquid. The end cap 3, having been placed in a deep freeze in order to freeze the medium 1, is then screwed onto the body 10. Drinking liquid subsequently poured through the passage 2 is cooled by the medium 1, and this cooling effect will last for a considerable period of time because of the effective cooling properties of medium 1. The cap 3 is removed from the body 10 and refrozen before subsequent use.
[0013] In the embodiment of Figure 2 the end cap 3 is screwed into the full width upper end of the body 10, and the passage 2 is of helical shape to increase the length of the passage through which the liquid must flow before emerging from the outlet end of the passage 2. The ice-pack medium 1 completely fills the volume between the outer wall of the end cap and the wall of the passage 2.
[0014] In figure 3 the end cap 3 has an annular flange with an in-turned lip 6 which co-operates with an out-turned flange 7 on the upper end of a narrow neck of the body 10. The flow passage 2 is straight and is completely surrounded by the ice-pack medium 1. The end cap of Figure 3, especially, is suitable for use with many existing drinking bottle constructions and may be sold for the purpose without the illustrated container body 10.
[0015] In each of the embodiment the drinking bottle body 10 is of a size and shape to be carried on a bicycle.
Claims (4)
1. An end cap adapted to be removably fitted to the mouth of a drinking bottle, the cap incorporating an “ice-pack” medium and a flow passage through which liquid can be poured from the bottle when the cap is fitted to said bottle, the passage having walls in thermally conducting relationship with the medium.
2. An end cap according to claim 1, wherein the flow passage is a straight passage extending through the cap.
3. An end cap according to claim 1, wherein the flow passage follows a circuitous path through the cap in order to increase the length of the passage through which the out-flowing liquid must pass, in order to increase the cooling effect.
4. An end cap according to claim 1, wherein the ice pack medium completely surrounds the passage, filling the volume between the passage walls and the outer wall of the cap.
