Abstract
A lamp for night time illumination of an advertising garden umbrella has a rechargeable cell (8) as the power source so that it is not necessary to run a power cable to the umbrella. The lamp can slide on and is releasably secured to the umbrella pole above the spokes. A switch (5) is provided in the top of the cell holder (1) to switch the bulb on and off. A handle (6) is provided for ease of carrying and for hanging the lamp on a hook. A securing pin (7) is provided for locking the lamp around the umbrella pole. IgI Figure 1
Description
NIGHT-TIME ILLUMINATION OF A GARDEN UMBRELLA BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION
[0001] This invention relates to a lamp for the night-time illumination of an Advertising Garden Umbrella.
[0002] Garden umbrellas are well known for their use in advertising.
[0003] Garden umbrellas are generally in use during daylight hours, but are frequently left up for several hours at night time. Unless the area surrounding that where the umbrellas are erected is well lit the wording and motifs on the umbrella cannot be distinguished. The underside of the umbrella can be lit by electric light bulbs, but this would be cumbersome for a person to disconnect the feeding cable before putting the umbrella down. The cable would either have to be run along the ground causing a safety hazard or at the height of the umbrella necessitating modification to the umbrella. A candle situated low enough not to cause a fire hazard would not make the motifs distinguishable to any observer other than one situated directly overhead.
[0004] According to the present invention there is provided a lamp for night time illumination of advertising garden umbrellas comprising a low voltage light bulb and holder, a cell holder, anti-theft means for securing the bulb and cell holder to the upright pole of the umbrella, a rechargeable cell with a charged life of approximately 5 hours and a cell charger capable of fully recharging the cell in 16 hours. The cell and bulb holder are small enough to be located on the pole above the central point of the ribs when the umbrella is up.
SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION
[0005] An object of the present invention is to provide a lamp for night-time illumination of a garden umbrella comprising a rechargeable cell, a cell holder, a bulb holder with bulb and reflector.
[0006] In another preferred embodiment, means are provided in the body of the lamp for releasably securing the body on an erected umbrella around the pole at a position above the spokes.
[0007] In another preferred embodiment, a handle is provided for ease of carrying or for hanging the lamp from a wall/ceiling hook.
[0008] The present invention can be more fully understood by reference to the following description and accompanying drawings.
BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS
[0009] Fig.l shows the location of the lamp on the umbrella; [0010] Fig.2 shows the method of fixing to the umbrella pole; [0011] Fig.3 shows the lamp in elevation with the cell in position.
[0012] Fig.4 shows the lamp in plan with the cell in position.
DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE PREFERRED EMBODIMENTS
[0013] Referring to the drawing the lamp comprises a cell (8) in a cell holder (1) which may fit around an umbrella pole. The cell holder has a bulb holder (4) at the lower end in which is mounted a bulb (2). A reflector (3) is attached to the bulb holder to reflect light.
[0014] The lamp is secured to the umbrella pole with the bulb at the lower end in a position just under the umbrella canopy as shown in Fig. 1 and secured by a pin (7) capable of being padlocked. To light the lamp a switch (5) is provided in a recess on top of the cell holder. When illumination is no longer required the lamp is removed and connected to a cell charger. A handle (6) is located at the bulb end of the cell holder for ease of carrying or for hanging the lamp on a wall for emergency lighting. To illuminate most advertising umbrellas a 21 watt bulb is suitable requiring a cell of 12 volts, 8-10 Amp Hours. Some umbrellas of particularly light material and motifs require a lesser degree of illumination necessitating only a 15 watt bulb.
Claims (3)
1. A night-time illumination of a garden umbrella comprising a rechargeable cell, a cell holder, a bulb holder with bulb and reflector.
2. A night-time illumination of a garden umbrella as claimed in Claim 1, wherein means are provided in the body of the lamp for releasably securing the body on an erected umbrella around the pole at a position above the spokes.
3. A night-time illumination of a garden umbrella according to claim 1, wherein a handle is provided for ease of carrying or for hanging the lamp from a wall/ceiling hook.
