Description
AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 ORIGINAL COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT Applicants (s): Bridey Drake, 19 Horsfield Rd, Horsfield Bay NSW 2256 Address for Service: BRIDEY DRAKE 19 Horsfield Rd HORSFIELD BAY NSW 2256 Invention Title: "Insertable Craft Wallet" The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best of performing it known to me:- -1 INSERTABLE CRAFT WALLET Field of Invention [0001] The present invention relates to wallets, in particular wallets where craft, artwork or fabric can be inserted to complete the individual look of the wallet. Background [0002] Kids' craft, particularly craft items given to parents from their children to celebrate events such as Father's Day and Mother's Day (often made during a pre-school or kindergarten class) have predominantly been impractical for the parents to use and have had a short shelf life, leaving not much scope for parents to enjoy their kid's creative gift over an extended period of time. [0003] The present invention is designed with the kids, teachers and parents in mind. [0004] In one form it provides children with a unique craft item that is simple to design (and re-do if they make a mistake) and easy to construct. [0005] In another form it provides teachers with a craft item that is quick and easy, while featuring the creativity of their student. [0006] In a further form it provides the receiver with a practical and individual gift that a father, grandfather, carer, guardian or friend will enjoy using on a day to day basis. The wallet will showcase the creativity of the child who designed the craft/artwork component of the wallet.
-2 Summary [0007] The present invention provides a transparent outer fabric and a sealable opening on the top end of the wallet where craft items, drawings, photos, paintings, collage, fabric and the like can be inserted and sealed into the wallet to create an individual design on the wallet. Brief Description of the Drawings [0008] This invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 shows an inside perspective view of an insertable craft wallet; Figure 2 shows the outside perspective of the wallet; Figure 3 shows the inside perspective of the outer 3 layers ONLY of the wallet. The wallet's inside pockets are not shown in this figure to best illustrate the craft/artwork insertion and sealing process; Figure 4 shows the inside perspective of the outer 3 layers ONLY of the wallet and of a craft/artwork item being inserted. The wallet's inside pockets are not shown in this figure to best illustrate the craft/artwork insertion and sealing process; Figure 5 shows the outside perspective once a craft/artwork item is completely inserted into the wallet; Figure 6 shows the inside perspective of the outer 3 layers ONLY of the wallet once a craft/artwork item is completely inserted into the wallet. The wallet's inside pockets are not shown in this figure to best illustrate the craft/artwork insertion and sealing process; Figure 7 shows the inside perspective of the outer 3 layers ONLY of the wallet once a craft item is completely inserted into the wallet and then the top is sealed. The wallet's inside pockets are not shown in this figure to best illustrate the craft/artwork insertion and sealing process; Figure 8 shows the outside perspective once the craft/artwork item is inserted, sealed and the wallet is folded.
-3 Detailed Description [0009] Embodiments of the present invention provide a craft item that is easy to use, offers flexibility and individualisation through the craft/artwork insert design, is cost effective for class projects and a practical, personalised and useful item for the gift receiver or wallet user. [0010] The wallet includes an opening on the inside top end where the craft/artwork item can be inserted into the wallet and then sealed. [0011] The sealing of the wallet would generally include double sided sticky tape, adhered to the inner side of the first outer layer, then once the artwork is inserted, the second outer layer strip folds over the back of the craft/artwork. After this step, the craft/artwork will be situated between the second outer layer strip and the transparent third outer layer (or outside layer). The backing paper of the sticky tape will be removed and the inner side of the first outer layer (next to the opening) will then adhere to second outer layer strip, sealing the craft/artwork in place. The sealing of the wallet typically operates via a double sided sticky tape sealing the inner side of the first outer layer to the second outer layer strip design however it will be appreciated that other sealing mechanisms may also be used (e.g hook and loop fasteners (Velcro), zip locks, zippers, button fastening or press studs). [0012] The wallet would typically be made from a transparent fabric (such as clear PVC) and a non-woven polypropylene. It will be appreciated that other materials would also be suitable for the wallet, such as synthetic fabrics, cotton or hemp. The outside fabric would typically and primarily be made from the transparent fabric so the craft/artwork can be easily seen when viewing the outside of the wallet. Should the wallet be sealed using the double sided sticky tape design, then the second outer layer strip and the first outer layer would typically be a PVC fabric (clear or otherwise), suitable to adhere to sticky tape. [0013] The inner section typically includes inside pocket(s) suitable for cards, notes and/or coins. The inside pocket(s) may be closable to securely retain the contents (eg. coins). For example, the pocket(s) may be opened and closed by typical fastening means such as a zipper, hook and loop fasteners (Velcro), press studs or zip locks etc. Alternatively or additionally, one or more of the pockets may have a permanent opening on one side, so -4 notes, cards, information or photos may be stored. One or more pockets may alternatively or additionally also include a transparent window, so that information or photos may simply be slipped inside and viewed. [0014] One specific example of a wallet in line with the present invention is shown in Figures 1 to 7. [0015] The third outer layer (1) (which is the layer on the outside of the wallet), second outer layer strip (2), first outer layer (3) are made out of clear PVC, while the remainder of the wallet, including the binding (4) and pockets (9,10, 12, 13 & 14) are made out of non-woven polypropylene. [0016] As seen in Figure 4 (which shows an inner view of the outer 3 layers only), the craft/artwork (5) is inserted into the inside of the top end of the wallet, between the first outer layer (3) and second outer layer strip (2). The double sided sticky tape (7) is already adhered onto the inner side of the first outer layer (3) (near the opening). Figure 6 shows an inner view (of the outer 3 layers ONLY) of the craft/artwork (5) completely inserted into the wallet, while Figure 5 shows the outside view of the craft/artwork (5) completely inserted into the wallet. As in Figure 7 (which shows an inner view of the outer 3 layers only), once the craft/artwork (5) is inserted, the second outer layer strip of transparent PVC fabric (2) will fold over the craft/artwork (5). After this step, the craft/artwork (5) will then be situated between the outer second layer strip of fabric (2) and the transparent third outer layer of fabric (1). The backing paper of the sticky tape (7) will be removed and the inner side of the first outer layer (3) will then adhere to second outer layer strip (2), sealing the craft/artwork in place. [0017] One pocket (9) has an opening with a flap (10) that is fastened with a hook and loop fastener (Velcro) (11) to retain the coins in place. Three pockets which have one permanent side opened (12) are created to provide a place for cards etc to be inserted. One additional pocket (14) with one permanent side opened is located behind the card pockets primarily creating more storage space for cards, receipts etc. One further additional pocket (13) with one permanent side opened at the top is also located behind the coin pocket and also the card pockets and in front of the outer 3 layers. This is primarily used to hold dollar notes, receipts etc.
-5 [0018] The Insertable craft wallet may, for example, be used by a pre-school teacher, when looking for class craft projects for children to give to their father (or carer) for Father's Day. [0019] The children would draw or paint their artwork on paper provided. The teacher would insert the artwork into the wallet and then remove the double sided tape to seal the wallet. The children would then give their father (or carer) the present showcasing their creativity through a practical present that the father (or carer) could use every day.
