BACKGROUND 1. Field 10 [2] Exemplary embodiments relate to reproduction of contents, and more particularly, to a method and system for reproducing contents, by which seamless playback of contents is performed between devices. 2. Description of the Related Art 15 [3] Functions of devices such as smart phones, hand-held personal computers (PCs), tablet PCs, and smart televisions (TVs) have gradually diversified. Accordingly, it has become possible to reproduce the same contents by using different devices.
[4] For example, a user can watch and listen to broadcasting contents, which contents the user is watching and listening to on a smart TV, on a smart phone. A game application which is 20 executed on a smart phone can also be executed on a smart TV. A sound source which is executed on a smart phone can also be executed on a smart TV. Accordingly, there is a need to facilitate a performance of a seamless playback or outputting of contents between devices.

[9a] According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a content providing method which is executable by using a mobile device, the mobile device comprising a first communication unit which is configured to establish a short distance connection to an external remote and a second 15 communication unit which is configured to establish a connection to an external display device, the external remote being configured to control the external display device, the content providing method comprising: displaying content on a display of the mobile device; receiving information corresponding to the external display device from the external remote via the first communication unit; based on the information received from the external remote, establishing a connection to the 20 external display device via the second communication unit; and providing the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device to the external display device to which the connection is established via the second communication unit.

[10] According to a first aspect, of the present invention there may be provided a content 15 reproducing method which is executable by using a display device, the display device comprising a first communication unit which is configured to establish a connection with a remote control device and a second communication unit which is configured to establish a connection with a portable device, the remote control device being configured to control the display device, and the content reproducing method comprising: receiving, from the remote control device via the first 20 communication unit, data relating to the portable device; providing, directly to the portable device via the second communication unit, a content request including address information of the display device based on the received data; after the providing the content request, receiving content from the portable device via the second communication unit; and reproducing the received content.

[13] According to second aspect of the present invention there may be provided a portable device comprising a first communication unit configured to establish a short connection with an external 5 remote which is configured to control an external display device; a second communication unit configured to establish a connection with the external display device; a touch display configured to display content and to receive touch input; and a processor configured to provide address information of the portable device to the external remote via the first communication unit, after the address information of the portable device is provided to the external remote, receive a content 10 request including address information of the external display device directly from the external display device via the second communication unit, and provide the content to the external display device via the second communication unit using the received address information of the external display device.

[15] According to an aspect of another exemplary embodiment, there may be provided a remote control which is configured to control an electronic device, the remote control including a short distance communication unit which performs short distance communication with a, portable device; a user input unit which inputs user information; and a processor which detects an occurrence of a short distance communication with the portable device via the short distance communication unit, receives data from the portable device via the short distance communication unit, and transmits the received data to the electronic device via a wireless communication unit, wherein the received data includes data required by the electronic device for reproducing contents that are being reproduced by the portable device.

Claims (24)

  1. The claims defining the invention are as follows:
    1. A content providing method which is executable by using a mobile device, the mobile device comprising a first communication unit which is configured to establish a short distance connection to an external remote and a second communication unit which is configured to establish a connection to an external display device, the external remote being configured to control the external display device, the content providing method comprising: displaying content on a display of the mobile device; receiving information corresponding to the external display device from the external remote via the first communication unit; based on the information received from the external remote, establishing a connection to the external display device via the second communication unit; and providing the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device to the external display device to which the connection is established via the second communication unit.
  2. 2. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the establishing the connection to the external display device comprises activating a communication function of the mobile device.
  3. 3. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the short distance connection is based on at least one near field communication standard.
  4. 4. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the connection with the external display device is based on wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) direct.
  5. 5. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the content comprises an image.
  6. 6. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the content comprises an image that corresponds to a user interface (Ul) being displayed on the display of the mobile device.
  7. 7. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the content comprises a content being reproduced in the mobile device.
  8. 8. The content providing method of claim 1, wherein the information received from the external remote comprises data that relates to an authentication between the mobile device displaying the content and the external display device to display the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device.

A mobile device comprising: a display; a first communication unit configured to establish a short distance connection to an external remote; a second communication unit configured to establish a connection to an external display device, the external remote being configured to control the external display device; and a processor configured to: display content on the display; receive information corresponding to the external display device from the external remote via the first communication unit; based on the information received from the external remote, establish a connection to the external display device via the second communication unit; and provide the content being displayed on the display to the external display device to which the connection is established via the second communication unit.
  10. 10. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the processor is further configured to establish the connection to the external display device by activating a communication function of the mobile device.
  11. 11. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the short distance connection is based on at least one near field communication standard.
  12. 12. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the connection with the external display device is based on wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) direct.
  13. 13. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the content comprises an image.
  14. 14. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the content comprises an image that corresponds to a user interface (Ul) being displayed on the display.
  15. 15. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the content comprises a content being reproduced in the mobile device.
  16. 16. The mobile device of claim 9, wherein the information received from the external remote comprises data that relates to an authentication between the mobile device displaying the content and the external display device to display the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device.

A non-transitory computer-readable recording medium having recorded thereon a program which includes commands for executing a content providing method, the content providing method comprising: displaying content on a display of a mobile device; receiving information corresponding to an external display device from an external remote via the first communication unit, the external remote being configured to control the external display device; based on the information received from the external remote, establishing a connection to the external display device via the second communication unit; and providing the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device to the external display device to which the connection is established via the second communication unit.
  18. 18. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the establishing the connection to the external display device comprises activating a communication function of the mobile device.
  19. 19. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the short distance connection is based on at least one near field communication standard.
  20. 20. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the connection with the external display device is based on wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) direct.
  21. 21. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the content comprises an image.
  22. 22. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the content comprises an image that corresponds to a user interface (Ul) being displayed on the display of the mobile device.
  23. 23. The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the content comprises a content being reproduced in the mobile device.

The non-transitory computer-readable recording medium of claim 17, wherein the information received from the external remote comprises data that relates to an authentication between the mobile device displaying the content and the external display device to display the content being displayed on the display of the mobile device.
