2 Field of the Invention: [0001] This invention relates cornices and more particularly to the installation of cornice profiles that are mounted to a cornice block located at the junction of the wall and ceiling. Background of the Invention: [0002] Cornice profiles, also known as Crown Mouldings can be found in a wide variety of shapes, sizes and varying decoration features. Cornice profiles are designed as decoration items that provide an attractive finish at the junction of the wall and ceiling. [0003] Installation is via cornice cement / adhesive that is formulated for adhesion of the cornice profile to plasterboard surfaces, and generally requires a skilled person to properly align the cornice profile at the junction of the wall and ceiling. [0004] Installation requires measuring for marking guidelines and using temporary nails partly driven into the wall and ceiling to support the cornice profile until the cornice cement / adhesive sets. [0005] The present invention seeks to overcome or substantially ameliorate at least some of the deficiencies of prior art, or to at least provide an alternative. [0006] It is understood that, if any prior art information is referred to herein, such reference does not constitute an admission that the information forms part of the common general knowledge in the art, in Australia or any other country.
3 Object of the invention: [0007] The object of this invention is to provide an easier and more efficient means to install cornice profiles without having to measure and mark installation guidelines. [0008] Another object of this invention is to eliminate having to use nails to temporary support the cornice profile whilst the cornice cement / adhesive sets hard. [0009] Another object of this invention is to eliminate the use of any cornice cement / adhesive by using a concealed fastener that grips into the rear of the cornice profile and provides mechanical fixing. Summary of the invention: [0010] According to a first aspect, the present invention provides a cornice block that is fitted to the junction of the wall and ceiling to provide a mounting point for the installation of cornice profiles by incorporating locating means that are compatible to accept a corresponding shape at the rear of the cornice profile. [0011] In another preferred embodiment, the present invention has the locating means to accurately guide the cornice profile into position resulting is self alignment installation. [0012] In another preferred embodiment, the locating means are compatible with the corresponding shape at the rear of the cornice profile to provide a tight fitting connection via positive gripping. [0013] In another preferred embodiment, the cornice block has two deep recesses for locating screws for fixing to wall and ceiling, and a central splayed face to house a concealed fastener.
4 [0014] In another preferred embodiment, the deep recesses and incorporate V grooves as guidelines to accurately position screws that mount the cornice block at the junction of the wall and ceiling. [0015] In another preferred embodiment, the cornice block is screwed to the wall and ceiling via screws located in the V grooved lines within the two deep recesses. [0016] In another preferred embodiment, the cornice block is shaped with a splayed surface that is parallel with the rear face of the cornice profile and has a V grooved line to positively locate a concealed fastener. [0017] In another preferred embodiment, the tightly fitting cornice profile shape within the side extensions, together with a concealed fastener gripping into the rear profile of the cornice profile provides positive mechanical engagement. [0018] In another preferred embodiment, the concealed fastener is inserted into the central splayed face ready to engage the rear of the cornice profile to provide dynamic fixing and eliminate the need for cement/adhesive [0019] In another preferred embodiment, the cornice profile is of plastic material and is extruded in length and cut into small sections. [0020] In another preferred embodiment, the cornice profile is of aluminium, extruded in length and cut into small sections. [0021] Other aspects of the invention are also disclosed.
