Abstract

Abstract The installation of new, and modification of existing, roller shutters to incorporate a partial opening cutout within the curtain which can be used as an access window or door. The installation of new, and modification of existing, roller shutters to incorporate a partial opening cutout within the curtain which is completely open and framed as a rectangular or square opening. The installation of new, and modification of existing, roller shutters to incorporate a partial opening cutout within the curtain which is completely open but retains the original slats as a modified swinging flap or door

Description

EDITORIAL NOTE 2015101261 There is one page of description only.
The innovation is a cut-out panel of a roller shutter curtain. A roller shutter curtain is comprised of aluminium slats that form a complete curtain. The curtain is held together by clips at each end and the whole curtain runs within side guides. The innovation we have created is to cut out a panel, or door, in the roller shutter curtain. This innovation allows for installation of pet doors - the door of which can remain part of the curtain or can be left completely cut out as a permanent 'hole'. The innovation also would permit a permanent cut out hole for things like ATM machines / keypads / handles etc. This cut-out allows for complete normal operation of the roller shutter - the curtain opens and closes or can be left partially open or closed as per usual use. The cut out is achieved by: * cutting the slat to the size of the cut-out required * reinforcing the cut-out where necessary by higher grade strength slats (for example, extruded aluminium slats as reinforcers for standard foam filled rolled aluminium slats); in some cases such as small pet doors this reinforcement may not be required * modification of profile end clips * insertion of modified profile end clips to the fixed, unmoving sections of slat framing the cut-out hole to seal the frame of the cut-out for access cut-outs left completely uncovered OR * insertion of modified profile end clips to the fixed, unmoving sections of slat framing the cut-out hole to seal the frame and to the portion of slat which fills the cut-out section, where the portion of slat filling the cut-out section remains in place as a swinging flap or door These modifications allow the roller shutter to still open and close as per normal operation, allowing enhanced functionality while preserving the security/privacy & to an extent the insulation properties provided by the roller shutter.
