Abstract

This application describes an intelligent electric blanket that is connected to the internet. This electric blanket allows users to control it from either a mobile application or the internet. The user can turn the electric blanket on and off remotely as well as allow the user to schedule the electric blanket to be turned on and off at a specified time. The electric blanket can also have embedded sensors so that information relating to its environments can be captured. This information is then uploaded to either the cloud or mobile application. Description

1 BACKGROUND [0001] An electric blanket in this case refers to any blanket and any wearable material that can be worn as cover or clothes which has an internal heating element that can generate heating or cooling. [0002] This application is concerned with an electric blanket, and more particularly with the electrical control circuit that can be used to change the blanket's condition whether the user is at home or remotely through the internet. Heating / Cooling [0003] Traditional electric blankets are used for heating for warmth during cooler seasons. This invention refers to an electric blanket that both heats for warmth and also cools. The heating aspects of the electric blanket can be used in cooler seasons. Whilst the cooling aspects of the electric blanket can be used during warmer seasons. Remote Control [0004] The use of electric blankets is common, but in the past temperature controls are achieved through a controller that is attached with the electric blanket itself. This meant that in order to change the temperature a user of the electric blanket must be present to operate the controller. The invention in this case allows a user to remotely set the condition of the electric blanket without having to be in close proximity of the blanket. The invention is operated through the means of an application on the mobile phone that is connected through the internet. [0005] In another aspect of this invention the owners of their electric blanket is able to register their blanket online. Once registered the owner of the blanket can then share their control with other members of the family. Through 2 the online platform (website/portal) each registered owner is able to control the condition of their blanket. Sensors [0006] Another aspect of this invention contains a sensor layer within the actual blanket. The sensor layer is responsible for measuring temperature, 3 dimensional movement through means of accelerometers, speaker, heart rate, brightness within the room ie. Light and also sound. The sensor information is sent through the wireless network to the cloud platform over the Internet. The invention involves a cloud platform or an application where registered owners can view their historical sensor data. Alarm [0007] The electric blanket can also have an embedded silent vibration motor. The silent vibration motor is used as a silent alarm to wake up an individual from the bed without waking up their partner. A light can also be embedded on the side of the control unit which can simulate the gradual sun rise. A speaker can also embedded on the control unit which can generate sound as a preprogrammed alarm. [0008] All aspects described can work as alarm and can be set via the Mobile Application, the Website or the Embedded Blanket Controller. Smart Scheduling [0009] The sensor attributes can be used to program the electric blanket through the mobile app as well as the cloud based platform. Such as when the electric blanket detects movement through the embedded accelerometer, and the time has passed 10pm, the blanket will then turn itself on and set itself to the preset temperature settings. Wireless Connectivity 3 [0010] The electric blanket is able to wirelessly connect to a home owner's local wireless network. Once connected the controller is then able to send configuration and sensor details via the Internet to the online platform.

4 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWING Figure. 1 is a high level architecture view of the embedded electric blanket controller with the cloud platform and the mobile application. DETAILED DESCRIPTION [0011] Figure 1 shows the high level interaction between the three components of; Mobile Application (1.1), Online Platform/Website API/Dashboard (1.2) and Embedded Blanket Controller (1.3). [0012] The Mobile Application (1.1) is used by the owner of the electric blanket to change the electric blanket on and off and also to change its condition of either heating or cooling. The application is used to set schedules for when the blanket is to be turned on and off. As part of the schedule the temperature of the blanket can also be set to either heating or cooling at a specific setting or temperature. The alarm aspects such as the silent vibration motor, light, sound from the speaker can also be scheduled. [0013] The Mobile Application (1.1) is connected via the internet to the Website API/Dashboard where the latest data relating to the blanket is downloaded and shown. The Mobile Application has various settings to control the blanket along with graphical representations to show data collected from the electric blanket. The graphical representation can be in the form of charts to show heartrate, movement on the electric blanket, temperature in the room, sound in the room and light detected in the room.

5 [0014] The Website API / Dashboard (1.2) can be referred to as the online portal. The online portal is used by the user to change the settings of the electric blanket. The online portal will store all historical sensor records from the electric blanket. Similar to the mobile application (1.1) it can be used to view historical data. It can also be used to schedule the electric blanket to be turned on and off and also the temperature of the blanket whether it is in heating or cooling mode. The alarm aspect can also be set from the online portal. [0015] The online portal (1.2) will receive all updates from either the electric blanket controller (1.2) or the mobile application (1.1) when settings are changed. The online portal can also push updated settings to either the mobile app (1.1) and or the embedded controller (1.2). [0016] The embedded blanket controller (1.3) is used by a user to alter the temperature of the blanket. The electric blanket can be set to heating or cooling. Duration of heating and cooling can also be specified. Similar to the mobile application (1.1) and the online platform (1.2) the controller can be used to set schedules of when the electric blanket is to be switched on or off and also its temperature settings of heating or cooling. The alarm aspect of the electric blanket can also be configured through this controller. [0017] Configuration of the embedded blanket controller (1.3) onto the user's home WIFI network is achieved through the user's mobile phone. Where the Mobile App (1.1) is downloaded and used to configure the WIFI chip within the controller to pair with the home WIFI network and set its encryption settings. [0018] Figure 2. 6 [0019] The Cloud Platform (2.1) is used to receive and transmit information from and to the Mobile Application (2.21) and the Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7). The Cloud Platform has a User Interface Layer (2.2) which is used by a user to control the blanket. The UI Layer is what a user interacts with to view historical data through the means of a dashboard. The dashboard will display historical sensor details as well as currently configured settings and schedules. [0020] The AI Layer (2.3) is a layer that programmatically makes decisions based on sensor data that is sent from the electric blanket. In one aspect the scenario of the decision could be that when the time has passed 10pm and the electric blanket detects movement on the electric blanket through the embedded accelerometer and receives information about the light sensitivity and also sound data showing that light has been dimmed and sound is minimal. At this point the blanket will turn itself on to the last preset setting whether it is heating or cooling mode. [0021] The API Layer (2.4) is the interface to receive and send data to and from the Mobile Application (2.21) and the Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7). [0022] Data store (2.5) is the online big data storage of all user's consumer settings. The big data storage can be used to determine the average optimal settings for a user's electric blanket based on the average settings of the blanket owner's neighbors. [0023] Transmission between the Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7) and the Cloud Platform (2.1) is achieved through the user's home WIFI network. [0024] The Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7) is connected to the electric blanket and is used by the user to control the electric blanket. The user can use the controller to turn the 7 electric blanket on and off. As well as set the temperature of the electric blanket to either heating or cooling and setting its duration. Scheduling can also be programmed from the embedded controller. The alarm aspect can also be programmed from embedded blanket controller. [0025] In another aspect of the Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7) a touchscreen is used as the controller. In this aspect the controller will also be able to visually display historical data by retrieving information from the cloud platform (2.1). [0026] The UI Layer (2.8) presents the data to the user and allows the user to configure as well as view configuration of the electric blanket. [0027] The Wireless Transmission Layer (2.9) uses either WIFI or Bluetooth to wireless transmit information to the online portal through the user's home WIFI network. [0028] The AI Layer (2.10) is able to make decisions based on user configured settings without being connected to the network. A scenario could be to turn the electric blanket on when the electric blanket detects movement through its accelerometer. [0029] The Sensor Layer (2.11) receives information from the electric blanket's sensor layer (2.14) and is able to translate the signal into interpretable format so that the AI Layer (2.10) on the embedded blanket controller can make the appropriate decision. [0030] The Data Store (2.12) is able to store local subset of sensor data as well as configuration data so that information can be sent to the cloud platform when the connection becomes re-established.

8 [0031] The Electric Blanket is connected to the Embedded Blanket control (2.13). In one aspect of the invention the connection between the electric blanket (2.14) and the embedded blanket controller (2.7) is wireless. [0032] The Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7) can communicates with the Mobile Application (2.16) through the local WIFI network. In another implementation the controller communicates directly to the mobile application via Bluetooth. In another aspect of the implementation the controller (2.7) transmits all settings and sensor data to the online platform (2.1) through the mobile application (2.21) which then pushes the updated settings to the Mobile Application (2.21). [0033] The Mobile Application (2.21) is an application that operates on a smart phone. The mobile application allows the user to control their electric blanket even when they're not at home. [0034] The UI Layer (2.20) on the mobile application is used to present the user with an interface. The UI Layer allows the user to interact with the blanket by setting temperature changes whether it is heating or cooling as well as adjusting schedules. The alarm aspect can also be configured from this layer. Another feature of this layer is to visually present historical sensor data form the electrical blanket in a dashboard view so that a user can view their historical information. [0035] The Wireless Transmission (WIFI / Bluetooth) layer (2.19) is used to transmit (2.22, 2.16) as well as receive data either through the user's home WIFI network or directly to the Embedded Blanket Controller (2.7). The Mobile Application can also use 4G connection to transmit information to the Cloud Platform (2.1).

9 [0036] The AI Layer (2.18) uses historical information to suggest recommendation as well as allow user to specify specific conditions to trigger the electric blanket. In one scenario the user can configure the electric blanket to be turned on to heating where the temperature in the room is below 20 degrees Celsius and the time is between 10pm and 6am. [0037] The Data Store (2.17) is used to store configuration settings for the electric blanket and also to view historical information from the past.
