Description

INVENTOR: BARRIE BRUNTON APPLICATION No: 2015100451 TITLE: PLANT ROOT WATERING SPEAR(OR PLANT ROOT WATERING TUBE) TECHNICAL FIELD: HORTICULTURAL EQUIPMENT BACKGROUND Australia is an arid country subject to periodic drought conditions. As such, watering plants by direct application to the roots below surface reduces wasting a valuable resource. SUMMARY The main aim of this piece of equipment is to apply water directly to the roots of a plant. Surface watering a garden plant water does not necessarily reach roots of the plant. Thereforeuse of the plant watering tube delivers water directly to plant roots and reduces water wastage. SOLUTION Using a hollow tube or pipe with water flowing through, which is pushed into ground near plant you can apply water directly to plant roots. This tube we have called the 'Wateringspear'. It is of a ridged material of suitable strength to penetrate soil. The spear end to be a sharp point thus enabling soil penetration. This 'Watering spear' is attached to a garden hose or pump hose via a proprietary hose clip or similar. Water flowing through 'Watering spear' drills a small hole through soil thus allowing easy penetration. The tube (watering spear) is attached to a hand grip, with a lever stop/on function. Turn on as you push into soil. Turn off as you pull out of soil. The tube can be manufactured from a number of materials for example, aluminium, upvc, plastic. Thin aluminium tube 12mm dia. provides a good size to penetrate roots without damaging them. ADVANTAGES Avoids surface water run off. Provides direct water to plant roots where it is needed the most. Allow for controlled watering of a given plant as required to its needs. The amount of water used is reduced because of this direct application. Water applied at various depths to suit soil type or plant size. See drawings attached to application. 1 Shows person with 'Watering spear' pushed into plant roots, with watering hose attached. 2 Shows a visual description of 'Watering spear' 1
