Abstract
PATENTS ACT 1990 APPLICANT: Garth Graham INVENTION TITLE: Shadecloth with additional threads for reinforcement, tear resistance, cut resistance. Name of actual inventors David William Kost Garth James Graham Shane Duncan Graham The invention is described in the following statement: 1. The following statement is a description of the invention, and included are the various pattern designs of producing a reinforced knitted shadecloth, using a variable number of mono and multi axis directional reinforcing threads. 2. This invention relates to improving a standard knitted shadecloth, with the invention being the introduction of a range of reinforcing threads that will provide the knitted shadecloth with a higher tenacity, reduced elongation and also creating an anti tear resistant cloth. 3. Historically knitted shade cloth has been used as a tensioned fabric that provides protection over various situations where solar ray transmissions, and / or hail stone impact, must be reduced to safe levels.
Description
EDITORIAL NOTE 2015100085 There are two pages of description only 2 1. Due to the elongation factors of fibers made from synthetic materials, and the inherent elongation properties of a knitted loop cloth, it has been difficult to control the resultant elongation that occurs during the exposure to working loads associated with the use on a shade structure. 2. The current industry standard of biaxial thread shadecloth is produced with monofilaments and/or tapes, or a combination of both types of threads. 3. The multi-axis reinforced design allows the use of either type of monofilament and /or tape threads. 4. The invention is the introduction of a reinforcing grid of extra threads, running in either single, or dual, or triple, or quad, directions in a combination of warp or weft or diagonal directions, forming a multi-axial layer of threads. 5. The combination of extra threads, running in a combination of directions to suit the end use of the shadecloth, will provide a reinforcing and tear resistant layer of threads, interlocked into the standard shadecloth biaxial base thread pattern. 6. In the knitting process of manufacturing the shade cloth there can be reinforcing threads, that are incorporated in the warp direction, to control elongation in the warp direction 7. In the knitting process of manufacturing the shadecloth there can be reinforcing threads in the weft direction to control elongation in the weft direction. 8. In the knitting process of manufacturing the shadecloth there can be reinforcing threads in both the diagonal directions to control the elongation in those directions.
3 9. Testing on a planar biaxial tensioning device has proven that a reinforced shadecloth with multi-axial threads has an increased recovery performance under exposure to prestress and higher working loads. 10. The reinforcing threads can be knitted into the loops of the base biaxial thread construction, or alternatively can be laid between the under-laps and the knitted loops of the front knitting bars. 11. In this case of the laid in warp / weft / diagonal threads, these can be incorporated at least one knitted loop in the pattern where the laid-in threads change direction. This will help to eliminate any slippage of these laid-in yarns in the fabric. 12. As the machine used to produce these knitted shade cloth fabrics can have up to six or 8 guide bars it is possible to incorporate a combination of all these thread designs into the one fabric giving increased stability in all directions. 13. For the reinforcing threads there can be the use of synthetic monofilament or multi-filaments or tape threads, made from either nylon / polyethylene / polypropylene / polyester. 14. In the reinforced cut resistant shadecloth design there is the use of either dyneema, spectra or fine stranded stainless steel wire rope. 15. With the use of synthetic reinforcing threads it will increase the strength of the fabric, increase the light block factor, increase the anti-tear property and can provide a cut resistant feature. The following options of reinforced thread patterns, for reinforced shadecloth fabrics, are shown below;
