Abstract
Abstract: A self propelling crane personnel lift comprising a rectangular framed work platform box having a top and a bottom, a front and a back, safety rails, semi enclosed and two sides one of which includes an entry gate, and a floor with an access panel ; and a centre stabilizer ; and five points of contact; wherein the said centre stabiliser made up of a rectangular box tube is attached through the centre of the work platform box from the top through to the bottom; wherein the said five points of contact consist of; a top limit switch, four points of contact attached to the said work platform box at the outer four corners of the top of the box via shackles and chains connected to a work roping system and the fifth point of contact attached via the work roping system through the said centre stabiliser. Description of invention; Crane Personnel Lift was designed to be used in the crane industry to replace the use of man work boxes that hang from the crane work hook. Although the intension is for it to be used for crane work it is not limited to and can be used in other applications providing that the anchor point that it is attached to is rated for its use. The Crane Personnel Lift was designed to be fully independent of the cranes operating system allowing the design to be easily Interchangeable with other cranes and not interfering with any of the cranes systems, electronics, hydraulics or any permanent modifications. Being fully mobile, this lift will be powered by a battery bank that can be recharged by mains power or generator in remote areas. The batteries will supply DC voltage to an AC power inverter that supplies two, man rated traction hoists 500kg rated capacity, operating up and down via low voltage pendant control, operating speed will be 8.5 m/min, 100% duty cycle. Fully integrated hoist Safety features include " Fall arrest device e Over speed device - If the hoist exceeds the factory preset speed of 25m/min the device will automatically trip and lock onto the secondary safety wire rope and support the load. * Slack rope / no load detection - Covers the risk of Failure of the suspension rope /no load " Mechanical anti-tilting device ( 12deg ) - An inclination of more than 12 deg of the platform e Automatic reset of the safety device " No power decent lowering with manual brake release " Manual activation of fall arrest device Additional safety features will include. * Top limit switch/ striker plate - Automatically stopping at a maximum lift height. * Lower limit switch - Automatically stopping when lowered and activating the ground switch. " Emergency stop switch e Overload protection Page 1 of 2 Operation 1: Attachment of the sheave block; work box drawing 8 - would be secured to the crane head/ rooster sheaves - (check rating of crane and load charts). 2: Operate pendant control to raise or lower personnel lift to the required height, operation of crane required to position personal lift, Luff for radius and slew for left and right. Construction Platform to be constructed from Aluminium, all workings enclosed. personnel work area open and lower section restricted. Roof will be fully enclosed allowing work and safety ropes to pass through enclosed tube. Four point contact for lift chains provides for platform stability continuing to three point to the centre via 2 lift work ropes and 1 redundant safety rope. Claims (3)
1. A self propelling crane personnel lift comprising: a rectangular framed work platform box having a top and a bottom, a front and a back, safety rails, semi enclosed and two sides one of which includes an entry gate, and a floor with an access panel ; and a centre stabilizer ; and five points of contact; wherein the said centre stabiliser made up of a rectangular box tube is attached through the centre of the work platform box from the top through to the bottom; wherein the said five points of contact consist of; a top limit switch, four points of contact attached to the said work platform box at the outer four corners of the top of the box via shackles and chains connected to a work roping system and the fifth point of contact attached via the work roping system through the said centre stabiliser.

The invention of claim 1 further comprising: an operating system segment wherein said operating system segment is attached to the bottom end/ underside of the said work platform segment; wherein said operating system houses the components of batteries, 2 braked hoists with rope winding clutched storage system, redundancy rope with rope winding clutched storage system, a DC/AC power inverter and a lower limit switch.

The invention ofclaim 1 and claim 2 further comprising: A sheave block anchor point; wherein the said sheave block anchor point comprises of two end plates comprising a large sheave and a small offset sheave, and an anchor point at the top end, further consisting of a centre plate comprising of, small offset sheave locator and large sheave centre locking pin, a top centre anchor point and a bottom end anchor point; Wherein the said sheave block anchor point is attached through a roping system having a first end and a second end wherein the first end is attached to the said work platform segment via shackles and chains to the said five points of contact and the second end is attached to the said operating system segment through the said centre stabiliser through a braked hoist being the fifth point of contact and onto a clutched work rope winding storage system housed in the said operating system segment. A third rope is a safety / redundancy rope attached to the bottom 2/2 anchor point of the said centre plate of the sheave block anchor point, followed by a top limit striker plate, passing through the said work platform segment centre stabiliser into the braked hoist and stored on the clutched rope winding storage system.
