Description

FABRIC EARTHING UNDERLAY FOR GROUNDING A HUMAN BODY FIELD OF THE INVENTION [0001] The present invention generally relates to a conductive underlay for earthing or grounding a human body, which dissipates excess electrical charges and conducts free electrons into the body from the earth. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0002] Grounding or Earthing a human body in general is defined as bringing in contact the human body with the earth such as placing one's bare feet on the natural earth or ground. The Earth is a natural source of free electrons and electrical fields, which aids in proper functioning of the human body including synchronization of biorhythms and certain physiological processes. [0003] Research studies indicate that the immune system functions optimally when the human body has an adequate supply of free electrons, which are naturally obtained by conductive contact with the Earth, such as barefoot contact with the Earth. The electrons from the Earth have beneficial effects that can protect the human body from inflammation and related health consequences. Scientific evidence suggests that the Earth's electrical negative potential can create a stable internal bioelectrical environment for the normal functioning of all body systems. The human body is conductive due to large number of charged ions present in fluids such as blood, and free electrons can also move about within the body. [0004] Modern life styles have increasingly separated humans from the primordial flow of the Earth's electrons. Plastic and rubber are good insulators, normally used for insulating electrical wires. Extensive usage of rubber and plastic-soled shoes may act as electrical insulators and therefore block the beneficial flow of electrons from the earth to the body. In addition, avoiding direct contact with the earth by other activities like not sleeping on material having direct contact with earth might also block flow of electrons between the body and earth. 1 [0005] The Earth carries an enormous negative charge, is electron-rich, and can provide a powerful and abundant supply of antioxidant and free-radical-scavenging electrons The human body is attuned to work with the Earth so that there is a constant flow of energy between the body and the Earth. When the feet are on the ground, they absorb large amounts of free negative electrons through the soles, and this is sufficient to maintain the body at the same negatively charged electrical potential as the Earth. This process is called "grounding" or "earthing". [0006] Studies show when the body is grounded, its electrical potential becomes equalized with the Earth's electrical potential through a transfer of electrons from the Earth to the body. Earthing related research offers insights into the potential of barefoot contact with the Earth, or simulated barefoot contact via simple conductive systems, on the stability of internal bioelectrical function and human physiology. [0007] EP 1063327 A2 shows silver fabric for shielding electrical and high frequency electromagnetic fields. In addition, US patent 7,724,491 B2 shows the reduction of inflammation using a grounding plane comprising a conductive pad. US patent publication 20080068773 Al discloses a personal body grounding systems to reduce and prevent inflammation. US patent publication 20130033121 Al discloses a personal grounding device. PCT publication WO 2008/044965 Al shows a means for earthing the human feet. [0008] Accordingly, there exists a need for earthing or grounding systems which allow earth's free electrons to conductively flow from the earth to the bodies of humans. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [0009] The present invention relates to a system for earthing or grounding a human body by removing excess electrical charges, and absorbing free electrons from the earth's surface into the body. The system is comprised of a conductive fabric layer containing between 35 to 100 percent silver coated fabric; a conductive connecting lead connected to the conductive layer at one end; and connected to either a grounding rod or an earthing adaptor (which is plugged into an electrical socket) at the second end of the connecting lead. The connecting lead has a built in resistor for extra safety. 2 BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF DRAWINGS [0010] FIG. 1 is a perspective view of a system for grounding a human body according to an embodiment of the invention DETAILED DESCRIPTION OF THE INVENTION [0011] Referring to FIG. 1, which shows a system 100 for grounding a human body by removing excess electrical charges, and absorbing free electrons, the system 100 comprises a conductive fabric layer 110 containing between 35 to 100 percent silver coated fabric. The silver fiber impregnated conductive fabric layer 110 facilitates the transfer of electrical charges from the human body to the earth in order to neutralize the electric charges of the human body. The system 100 further comprises a conductive connecting lead 120 with two ends, wherein the first end is operatively connected to the conductive layer 110 using a metal fastener 122 made of a conducting material and the second end of the lead 120 is operatively connected to a grounding adapter 130 coupled to an electrical socket 140, or connected to an earthing rod or grounding rod 150 fixed externally to the ground. [0012] The conductive fabric layer 110 comprises between 35 to 100 percent silver coated fabric. The silver coated fibers within the fabric 110 are interwoven and extend substantially across the length of the conductive fabric layer 110. The fabric materials are selected from a group comprising bamboo fiber, polyester, cotton, nylon, tencel, linen, jute, or wool and its combinations. [0013] In a different embodiment, the conductive fabric layer 110 is comprised of conducting fiber materials selected from not only silver, but a group consisting of nickel, copper, carbon, stainless steel, zinc, cobalt and its combinations, equivalent in conductivity to 35 to 100 percent silver coated fabric. The conductive fabric layer may also comprise 100 percent conducting fibers such as 100 percent silver fibers thus providing maximum conductivity to the fabric layer. 3 [0014] In an embodiment, the conductive fabric layer 110 connected to the grounding source 150 or 130 via the connecting lead 120 forms a fabric underlay material which can be used as an underlay sheet in conjunction with sleeping materials such as bed spreads, bed sheets, or similar liners used for sleeping. The structure of the conductive fabric layer 110 aids in conducting the electrical charges across and through layers of clothing or a sheet of fabric. [0015] The fabric underlay also comprises a fastening means including straps, Velcro or elastic fasteners for securing the underlay to a mattress material. The fabric underlay further comprises a metal fastener including a clip for attaching one end of the connecting lead to the conductive fabric layer. [0016] In an embodiment, the conductivity of the fabric underlay when connected to the earthing adaptor 130 in a socket 140, or rod 150, can be tested using a testing device such as a voltage Multimeter. The test is carried out by using an earthed Multimeter to read the voltage in the human body. When the human body is not in conductive contact with the earth, the body's voltage reading is much higher as compared to when the human body is in conductive contact with the earthed underlay. Earthed underlay meaning the underlay is properly connected to the earth via the connecting lead and adaptor or earthing rod. [0017] A fabric underlay for grounding a human body, designed to lay under a bed sheet, without direct contact with bare human skin. [0018] The earthing fabric underlay is designed as an underlay, and not as a bed sheet for use next to the body, and does not require bare human skin contact with it. As the earthing underlay is not in direct contact with the body, and is separated by a bed sheet, the underlay does not normally need to be washed as regularly as a sheet, and with less washing it is expected to be very durable. 4
