Abstract
Abstract So far the most popular materials for planting point /blade are Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel such as AISI 8630, and alloy white iron such as AS2027/Cr27. Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel has good toughness which can be used for soils with gravels, but the hardness (HB 460-520) of this steel is not very high to get long service life. By the way, Mo price in recent years rocketed up to unbelievably high level, making this steel a little bit too expensive for quantity use. Cr27 is hard (HB 550-700) but brittle, not recommended for soil with gravels. Besides, Hi Cr content, about 27%, make this casting iron quite expensive. A high carbon content high hardness Bainite steel (HB 590-670) with reasonable toughness, without expensive Mo nor large quantity of alloy elements, is designed for planting point/blade.
Description
Editorial Note 2014100863 There is 1 page of description Full description of this invention So far the most popular materials for planting point /blade are Ni-Cr-Mo low alloy steel such as AISI 8630, and alloy white iron such as AS2027/Cr27. The chemical content of the high carbon content high hardness Bainite steel: Element C Si Mn Cr V S P Fe % 0.60-0.90 0.90-3.00 1.20-3.50 0.80-3.10 0.10-0.30 50.40 50.40 rest Heat Treatment of the high carbon content high hardness Bainite steel: Hardening: Heating up to 850-980'C, keep at this temperature for one hour per 25mm section, then cooled in air. Tempering: Heating up to 120-350'C, keeping at this temperature for 2 hours per 25mm section. The air inside the tempering furnace must be circulated by force. Then cooled in air. The mechanical property of the high carbon content high hardness Bainite steel: Hardness HB 590-670 Toughness (Charpy un-notched) as casted >10 J Advantage of high hardness Bainite Steel: 1. Low cost because low content of alloy elements and no expensive alloy element such as Mo 2. Simple heat treatment process which decrease cost further. 3. Same Hardness range to Cr27 cast iron 4. Reasonable toughness, Charpy un-notched impact value >10 J for castings. This new material has wide application not only in farm industry and mining industry.
