Abstract

Referring to FIG. 1, FIG. 2 and FIG. 3, the light mounting system which enables different, small removable lights (such as a bicycle light) to be held in an enclosed pouch on the back of the user's hand comprises of several components. The pouch (30) is constructed of a soft, flexible textile material such as, but not limited to, neoprene or heavy cotton. The pouch (30) is connected to (via stitching or another way of attachment) and/or on top of a strip or piece of flexible textile fabric (20), such as thick cotton or neoprene which is connected to two straps at opposite ends, one encircling the wrist (10), and the other encircling around two (or more, or less) fingers (50), which is made of rubber, plastic or textile or another similar fabric or substance, enabling the pouch to sit on the back of the user's hand. The pouch is able to be completely closed, enclosing a removable light. The mechanism for enabling the pouch to be opened and enclosed is by Velcro, or another material or mechanism at the rear of the pouch (closest to the wrist) (40). The pouch can be opened by this Velcro or other material or mechanism, enabling the light to be placed in the pouch or removed. The light is able to be placed with the light source facing the front of the pouch (closest to the knuckles) (60), enabling the light to shine towards the desired direction or target, down the length or the hand, away from on top of the knuckles. The front of the pouch (60) has a mesh neoprene or clear rubber, plastic or similar material (60), instead of the solid neoprene or similar product in the rest of the pouch (30), allowing the light beam to shine through the front of the enclosed pouch while being unable to come out or be removed at the front and is enclosed via Velcro stripping at the rear and possibly at the sides of the pouch. There is not an opening at the front of the pouch. The sides and other areas of the pouch (70) may have Velcro or stitching to enclose the pouch, and enabling it to be opened from the rear and down the sides, or it may be a solid piece of material with the opening only at the rear of the pouch. it', w 04\1

Description

1 ENCLOSED POUCH WEARABLE ON THE BACK OF A PERSON'S HAND WHICH IS ABLE TO ENCLOSE A SMALL LIGHT USEFUL IN ENABLING A PERSON TO WEAR A SMALL LIGHT ON THE BACK OF THE HAND TO SHINE A LIGHT THROUGH IT WHILE RUNNING OR UNDERTAKING OTHER ACTIVITIES INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, CYCLING OR HIKING BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION [0001] A light mounting system which enables different types of small removable lights (such as a bicycle light) to be held in an enclosed pouch on the back of the user's hand. The pouch is constructed of a soft, flexible textile material such as, but not limited to, neoprene or heavy cotton. It is connected to (via stitching or another way of attachment) and/or on top of a strip or piece of flexible textile fabric, such as thick cotton or neoprene which is connected to two straps at opposite ends, one encircling the wrist, and the other encircling around two (or more, or less) fingers, enabling the pouch to sit on the back of the user's hand. The pouch is able to be completely closed, enclosing different removable types of lights, such as a bicycle light. The mechanism for enabling the pouch to be opened and enclosed is by Velcro, or another material or mechanism at the rear of the pouch (closest to the wrist). The pouch can be opened by this Velcro or other material or mechanism, enabling the light to be placed in the pouch or removed. The light is able to be placed with the light source facing the front of the pouch (closest to the knuckles), enabling the light to shine towards the desired direction or target, down the length or the hand, away from on top of the knuckles, illuminating the user's desired path and surroundings. The front of the pouch has a mesh neoprene or clear rubber, plastic or similar material, instead of the solid neoprene or similar product in the rest of the pouch, allowing the light source to shine through the front of the enclosed pouch while being unable to come loose or removed at the front. It is enclosed via Velcro stripping at the rear and, possibly at the sides of the pouch. There is not an opening at the front of the pouch. The sides and other areas of the pouch may have Velcro or stitching to enclose the pouch. [0002] The functionality of such a light mounting system on the back of the hand, being a 'hands free torch' has numerous applications. These include, but are not limited to, running, jogging, walking at night enabling the user to have their hands free while illuminating their desired path and 2 surroundings. It also extends to, but is not limited to hiking, caving, kayaking, road and mountain biking and other recreation and sporting activities where the benefits of having a light source on the back of the user's hand illuminating their desired path while also enabling them to use their hand/s for other purposes is realised. This also allows the application to extend to, but is not limited to military and search and rescue activities and requirements and of course increases in safety of the user to enable them to see their surroundings and also to be seen by others at night. [0003] There are numerous inventions, patents and products which have been developed to enable a hands free light source to be used. Many of these are gloves. My invention is not a glove. It is an enclosed pouch which is connected to the top of a strap which is similar to a skydiving altimeter strap, where it has a piece of material connected to two straps at opposite ends - one Velcro or another material or mechanism around the wrist and one around two (or less or more) fingers. My invention enables the system to be fitted over a glove if needed (such as in cold temperatures) and has the benefit of being less obstructive and lighter, in warmer weather as it covers only a small part of the user's hand. Many of the patents and products developed have a system of mounting a light on the wrist or hand, but my invention is superior and unique as it enables a light to be completely enclosed in the pouch yet still allows the light to shine its light out the front of the pouch through the mesh neoprene or similar material, or clear plastic or rubber or similar material. This allows a light to be mounted onto the back of the user's hand in a durable, robust, lightweight and ergonomic way and allows it to be worn in all weather conditions including underwater, safely enclosing the light in the pouch tightly and preventing it from coming out of the pouch. Many of the existing patents and products have an opening at the front of the area which encases the light. My invention does not consist of an opening at the front, instead it has an enclosed pouch. The rear and, possibly, the sides have Velcro or another material or mechanism which can be opened and closed. The front of the pouch is enclosed in that it is lined with mesh neoprene or clear plastic or rubber, or similar material, allowing the light beam to come out of the front of the pouch while holding the light in. [0004] The advances and improvements in light manufacturing, including LED's have enabled, and will continue to enable lights to become smaller. My invention would not have been useful several years ago, when the size of lights made such a system as mine to be prohibitive and not user friendly. The light industry will continue to make advancements and improvements and will become more powerful while being smaller and lighter in weight. My invention caters to these different and changing dimensions of current and future lights (such as bicycle lights) as the inside of the pouch is 3 lined with Velcro, enabling the pouch to be tightly fitted around the lights to ensure a snug and stable fit, holding the light in place without internal movement within the pouch, thus making my invention unique and superior to the existing patents and products.

Claims (3)
