Description

Document31-20/02/2014 MERCHANDISING DISPLAY Field of the Invention 5 The invention relates to a merchandising display and, more particularly, but not exclusively, to a free-standing merchandising display for displaying threaded rods and products to be used with the threaded rods including couplers, nuts, square washers and the like. 10 Background of the Invention Existing merchandising stands may be made by a retail shop from PVC pipes which are attached by screws and/or cable ties to uprights or an end display. The applicant has determined that it would be advantageous to eliminate this task for retail shops and to 15 differentiate the applicant's products by providing an improved merchandising display which has additional functionality and a more attractive aesthetic appearance. More specifically, the applicant has identified that existing merchandising displays for threaded rods can be rudimentary, with an inefficient usage of volume in the retail 20 store. Such existing merchandising displays may have little or no space for branding, no selection guide or product information, and no capacity to hold add-on products such as couplers, nuts, square washers and the like. The applicant has determined that many existing threaded rod holders hook into a peg board, and that this results in a wastage of space, for example because it is not possible to hang other products above the display. 25 Moreover, existing stands typically do not hold sufficient stock for trade oriented stores that sell large volumes. It has been identified that it would be beneficial to provide a free standing merchandising system which is multi-positional and can be free-standing. Accordingly, examples of the invention seek to provide an improved 30 merchandising system for displaying threaded rods which overcomes or at least alleviates disadvantages associated with existing merchandising systems.
Document3l-20/02/2014 -2 Summary of the Invention In accordance with the present invention, there is provided a merchandising display 5 for displaying threaded rods, the display including a base for resting on a floor surface, wherein the base includes a plurality of apertures for insertion of threaded rods, the apertures being arranged to support the threaded rods in a standing condition in which a lower portion of the threaded rods is housed in the base, the display also including a plurality of display containers for containing products for use with the threaded rods. 10 Preferably, the display containers are adapted for containing products in the form of couplers, nuts, washers, and the like. Preferably, the base has a front wall and side walls. 15 In a preferred form, the base has a top surface in which the apertures are formed. More preferably, the top surface is inclined toward a front of the display. Preferably, the display containers are in the form of bins. 20 Preferably, the display containers are arranged to protrude through openings formed in one or more of the walls of the base. More preferably, the display containers protrude through said openings formed in the front wall on opposed sides of a signage panel area. 25 In one form, the display has a rear wall for signage. It is preferred that the apertures have different sizes to accommodate different sizes of threaded rods. 30 Preferably, the display is formed from powder coated metal.
Document31-20/02/2014 -3 In a preferred form, wherein the display is free-standing. More preferably, the merchandising display is in the form of a unitary display which is able to be moved as a unitary structure. 5 Brief Description of the Drawings The invention is described, by way of non-limiting example only, with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: 10 Figure 1 is a front perspective view of a merchandising system in accordance with an example of the present invention; Figure 2 is a front view of the merchandising system shown in Figure 1; 15 Figure 3 is a right side view of the merchandising system; Figure 4 is a rear view of the merchandising system; 20 Figure 5 is a rear perspective view of a base of the merchandising display; Figure 6 is a front perspective view of the base of the merchandising display; Figure 7 is a top view of the base of the merchandising display; and 25 Figure 8 is a front perspective view of the merchandising display shown in use. Detailed Description 30 Figures 1 to 8 show a merchandising display 10 for displaying threaded rods 12 (see Figure 7). Advantageously, the merchandising display 10 efficiently houses threaded Document31-20/02/2014 -4 rod products in various sizes. The merchandising display 10 is easy to set up, easy to position, and can hold a significant weight when free-standing. The merchandising display 10 provides an effective way of displaying not only threaded rods but also add-on products to be used with the threaded rods such as, for example, couplers, nuts and square washers. 5 The merchandising display 10 is able to be positioned free-standing in stores, or is able to sit on existing fixtures mid-bay or at the end of a bay. The display 10 is able to assist a shopper through the product selection process by way of its clear layout, and has a large decal section to allow product information to be displayed. 10 More specifically, with reference to Figure 1, there is shown a merchandising display 10 for displaying threaded rods 12 (see Figure 8), the display 10 including a base 14 for resting on a floor surface. The base 14 includes a plurality of apertures 16 for insertion of the threaded rods 12, the apertures 16 being arranged to support the threaded rods 12 in a standing condition in which a lower portion of the threaded rods 12 is housed 15 in the base 14, the display 10 also including a plurality of display containers 18 for containing products for use with the threaded rods 12. The display containers 18 are adapted for containing products in the form of couplers, nuts, washers and the like. Advantageously, the merchandising display 10 allows 20 such add-on products to be displayed clearly and conveniently on the same display 10 as the threaded rods 12 for the convenience of shoppers and to promote sale of these items. In contrast, previous displays of threaded rods have not provided any display facility for add-on products which instead have been concealed in drawers or tubs located separately to the threaded rod display stands. 25 The merchandising display 10 comprises the base 14 as well as a rear panel 20 which is removably fitted to the base 14. The panel 20 may be fitted to the base 14 by slotting the panel 20 behind two side tabs 22 and a bottom tab 24 provided at a rear of the base 14 (see Figures 3 to 5 and 7). The base 14 has a front wall 26, a left side wall 28 and 30 a right side wall 30. The base 14 also has a top surface 32 (see Figure 7) in which the apertures 16 are formed. The top surface 32 is inclined toward a front of the display 10 so Document3l-20/02/2014 -5 that the top surface 32 is easy to view from the front of the display 10 for convenience in removing and inserting the threaded rods 12. The display containers 18 may be in the form of bins which are arranged to 5 protrude through openings 34 formed in one or more of the walls 26, 28, 30 of the base 14. With reference to Figures 1 and 2, the display containers 18 protrude through said openings 34 formed in the front wall 26 on opposed sides of a signage panel area 36. The body of the base 14 may be formed, for example, from 1.5mm thick metal 10 sheeting, whereas the display containers 18 may be formed from 1mm thick metal sheeting. The base 14 may be constructed by welding of the sheet material, after which the edges are neatly finished to be free of weld marks and the metal sheet material is powder coated. A replaceable graphic panel may be attached to the front wall 26 between the display containers 18. One or more data strips 38 may be attached to the top surface 32 in 15 front of the apertures 16 to assist in providing customers with information regarding the products being displayed. The panel 20 may be in the form of a rear wall for signage and may have a replaceable printed graphic panel as well as additional data strips 38. With reference to Figure 5, the base 14 may have an open back to facilitate access to an inside of the base 14 from the rear, and the base 14 may also be provided with a lower panel 40 20 which has apertures 42 corresponding to the apertures 16 so as to securely hold the threaded rods 12 in a substantially vertical condition. In the example shown in the drawings, the base 14 has a height of 650mm and a width of 600mm. The panel 20 has a height of 1,050mm and a width of 575mm, and the 25 panel 20 has an upper edge which resides 1,349mm above a lower edge of the base 14 when the panel 20 is fitted to the base 14. The base 14 may have a depth of 270mm. Each of the display containers 18 may have a width of 90mm, a height of 67mm, and a depth of 63mm. The display containers 18 are situated in the openings 34 such that a front part of the display containers 18 extends outside of the respective wall 26, 28, 30 of the base 14, 30 whereas the remainder of the display containers 18 is housed within the base 14. In this way, the display containers 18 are integrated into the merchandising display 10, and may Document31-20/02/2014 -6 be attached to the base 14 by way of welding. Owing to the situation of the display containers 18 extending through the side and front walls 26, 28, 30, the shopper is able to reach through the openings 34 into the display containers 18 to retrieve the add-on products being displayed, which may provide an aesthetic/functional encouragement to 5 shoppers in using the merchandising display 10. The display containers 18 may also have data strips 38 to clearly label the contents of the different display containers 18. As shown in Figures 6 to 8, the apertures 16 may be formed in different sizes to accommodate different sizes of threaded rods 12. 10 Advantageously, the merchandising display 10 may be free-standing and may be in the form of a unitary display which is able to be moved as a unitary structure so as not to interfere with existing fixtures on the retail floor. Examples of the invention may also provide the following advantages: 15 e Unobstructed product visibility for easy product selection. * Provision for large decal section for point of sale information. * Space efficient and sturdy design. * Capacity for branding the entire unit. 20 e Incorporating small bins to showcase add-on products to entice further sales in nuts, washers, couplers and the like. * Easy to navigate and select product. * Simple and effective method to be positioned free-standing in stores, or to sit on existing fixtures or ends of bays (multi-positional). 25 e Keeping products neat and tidy. * Can accommodate large quantities of stock. While various embodiments of the present invention have been described above, it should be understood that they have been presented by way of example only, and not by 30 way of limitation. It will be apparent to a person skilled in the relevant art that various changes in form and detail can be made therein without departing from the spirit and scope Document3l-20/02/2014 -7 of the invention.
