Description

1 1.0 Description Please find description of the SmartFuse invention below. 1.1 Title SmartFuse 1.2 Field For use in LED tube lighting installation 1.3 Background Issues around the safe post-handling of LED tube installations 1.4 Summary LED tube lighting fuses most commonly in the shape of the traditional starter fuses are used widely as a protective mechanism in case the user decides post-installation, to put in an old fluorescent tube back into an LED modified fitting. The SmartFuse design adds a security functionally that will revolutionise the way LED tube lights are installed. 1.4.1 Technical Problem - Current LED tube fuses although have protective attributes lack any 'dead-lock' security functionality. This functionality must be introduced whilst ensuring the new fuse fits within existing fuse sockets/starter holders and without too much complexity during installation to ensure wide spread use.
2 1.4.2 Solution to Problem - The SmartFuse albeit a simple solution leverages on existing fuse sockets/starter holders to provide a 'dead-lock' functionality to ensure full post-handling protection for an LED tube installation. 1.4.3 Advantageous Effects of Invention - With wide spread use of the SmartFuse during LED tube installations (brand new and for existing retrofits); the post-handling safety risks are completely eliminated. Users will be more cautious about replacing tubes back to the old fluorescent tubes when the SmartFuse is present after an LED tube installation with an LED wired fitting. 1.5 Description of Embodiments The following is an example of a case in which a SmartFuse will remedy potential post-handling risks associated after an LED tube installation. 1.5.1 Example - Installation of LED tubes in School A School A has decided to install LED tubes across their entire compound with LED Company B. LED Company B completes the installation of the LED tubes by rewiring existing fittings to suit LEDs and by using a common LED fuse for each tube replaced. Although LED Company B has used warning stickers as required by the AS/NZS 3000 wiring standard, users at School A post-install could possibly still attempt to replace the LED tubes installed with a traditional fluorescent tube 3 (in case of a malfunctioning light requiring temporary replacement or any other reason). If this is done and switched on whilst an LED fuse is in the fittings socket, the LED fuse would 'pop' as a normal fuse would to prevent electrical shock across the entire fitting. If the user removes the LED fuse and puts in a traditional fluorescent tube, the fitting entirely would receive an electrical shock causing a serious health and fire hazard to the user and the property. The SmartFuse is an LED Fuse that will 'dead-lock' to the fittings socket/fuse holder to ensure users think twice before removal of the LED fuse as a tool is required to unlock the SmartFuse. 1.5.2 Industrial Applicability - Indoor and outdoor tube lighting
