1 Wiring system for a trailer FIELD OF THE INVENTION 100011 The present invention relates to a trailer wiring system. BACKGROUND TO THE INVENTION [0002] Trailers are well known in the marine and recreational industries for the storage and transport of boats, wherein the trailer is attached to a motor vehicle. A wiring system is often used with the trailer so that the lights of the trailer can be powered by and controlled by the vehicle. [0003] Such systems usually consist of wiring cables, splitters and connectors which run through the frame of the trailer and are connected to the trailer lights and a power source from the motor vehicle. [00041 It is advantageous for the system to be made from several pieces of wiring cables and those cables to be joined by connectors. However the lack of a secure connection between the cables can lead to corrosi on and short-outs when the trailer is immersed in water. Some systems currently utili se easy wiring systems but are not waterproof. [0005] The object of this invention is to provide a trailer wiring system with a waterproof connector that alleviates the above problems, or at least provides the public with a useful alternative. SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION [00061 In a first aspect the invention comprises a system for wiring a trailer comprising cables and connectors, wherein the connectors are waterproof. [00071 In preference, the connectors comprise -male and female components, an 0 ring and a nut, wherein the threaded male component is mated with the female component, sealed by the O-ring and the nut is threaded over the male component. [0008] In preference, pressure is applied from the threading of the nut pnto the male component and wherein the O-ring forms a waterproof seal between the end of the 2 male component and the flange of the female component. [0009] In preference, a plurality of connectors can be used to join cables to form the wiring system [0010] It should be noted that any one of the aspects mentioned above may include any of the features of any of the other aspects mentioned above and may include any of the features of any of the embodiments described below as appropriate. BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF THE DRAWINGS [0011] Preferred features, embodiments and variations of the invention may be discerned from the following Detailed Description which provides sufficient information for those skilled in the art to perform the invention. The Detailed Description is not to be regarded as limiting the scope of the preceding Summary of the Invention in any way. The Detailed Description will make reference to a number of drawings as follows. Wherever possible, the same reference numbers will be used throughout the drawings and the following description to refer to the same and like parts. Dimensions of certain parts shown in the drawings may have been modified and/or exaggerated for the purposes of clarity or illustration. 10018] Turning now to Figure 1 there is illustrated a wiring system 20 for a trailer 22. The trailer 22 is visible in outline and attached to a vehicle 24. The wiring system 20 is composed of several cables components, which are connected via splitters, T-pieces 4 and connectors. It is advantageous for wiring system 20 to be composed of various cable pieces as it is easier to fit to the trailer and allows the user flexibility regarding the use of the system for various lighting elements in the trailer. [0019] There is a cable 26 connected to the vehicle 24 via a plug 28 through which electricity is conducted from the vehicle through the cable 26. The main splitter 30 separates into two cables allowing them to be connected to other cables 32 and 34 down the left and right sides of the trailer 22. As illustrated in Figure 1, there are three cable components on each side of the trailer 22 from the main splitter 30, on the left side being a cable 34 leading from the main splitter 30 to a T-piece 36, a cable 35 from the T-piece to a side light 38, and a final cable 37 from the T-piece 36 to the tail light 40. The waterproof connectors 42 link the various cables together to form the wiring system 20. 10020] Figures 2A and 2B illustrate the connector 42 in further detail. The connector 42 includes a connection means known in the art, with the mating of a male component 44 with a female component 46. This is illustrated in Figures 2A and 2B through pins 48 on the male component 44 and corresponding sockets 50 on the female component, although it is to be understood that other forms of male and female connection can be achieved. The diameter of the female component 46 is smaller than the diameter of the male component 44 and therefore the female component 46 fits inside the male component 44, and as the pins 48 are contained within the male component 44 when mated with the sockets 50 the connector 42 achieves an interference fit. [00211 A further connection element includes an O-ring 52 on the female component 46 which further seals the connection once the two components are connected. The O-ring 52 ensures that the connection is waterproof. Positioned behind the O-ring 52 on the female component 46 Is a flange 53. [0022] The male component 44 is threaded and the third connection element is the application of a nut 54 onto the threaded male component 44. The nut 54 is threaded onto the male component 44, pushing the O-ring against the connector end 55 and held between the connector end and the flange 53 to form a waterproof seal. [0023] The nut not only provides a further layer of securement and protection to the connection between the male and female components, but also clamps the O-ring 52 5 between the flange 53 and the connector end 55 of the male component 44. [0024] The reader will now appreciate the present invention provides three aspects of secure connection to ensure that the system is waterproof, being the male and female components connected via interference fit, the sealed O-ring over the connection and the nut threaded over the connection. 100251 This is advantageous as the system 20 can be made up of various cables 32 which can be connected safely and securely, ensuring that should the trailer 22 come into contact with water while offloading a boat the system will not short- out or become damaged. The waterproof connecters will also be longer lasting and less affected by corrosion or long term water damage. [0026] A connector 42 can be used at any connection point of the system, such as connecting the vehicle plug 28 and two way cable 26 to the main splitter 30 and the cables 34 from the main splitter 30 to the rest of the system 20 as illustrated in Figure 3. [0027] Illustrated in Figure 4 is a T-piece 36 which provides a connection to the side light 38, As can be seen through these drawings, the various connectors 42 ensure that the wiring system 20 is securely and safely attached with only the nut 54 visible forming a clamped and secured connection. The connectors allow the various cables and wires to be fed through the trailer chassis then joined together thus easing the wiring task. 10028] Further advantages and improvements may very well be made to the present invention without deviating from its scope. Although the invention has been shown and described in what is conceived to be the most practical and preferred embodiment, it is recognized that departures may be made therefrom within the scope and spirit of the invention, which is not to be limited to the details disclosed herein but is to be accorded the full scope of the claims so as to embrace any and all equivalent devices and apparatus.
