Abstract

Staff training and performance management have historically been delivered as separate functions within orgainisations increasing the number of people required to deliver each function and the cost associated with managing staff training and performance. Associated with this is the requirement to capture and file staff training and performance outcomes, which in many organizations are applied on paper based records and filed within central hard-file filing systems. This is applied by various people within the organization including service level managers as well as those specifically employed to manage the training and performance functions resulting in filing complexity, increase workforce cost and increased risk to the organisation's compliance with legislated training, for example, Work Health and Safety, when records cannot be located. Providing a web-based device to electronically record staff training and performance at the point of training and performance assessment significantly reduces filing complexity, workforce cost and risk to the organisation's compliance with legislated training. Furthermore, ensuring that legislated training requirements are electronically managed and tracked via online training assessments, provides sustained control over such risk. To provide capacity for staff to complete the electronic staff training and performance assessment online, and then the capacity for the manager to interact online with this information delivers further efficiencies in terms of reducing duplication of manually transcribed information, and time wastage. The Streamlined Staff Training and Performance Determination Model provides a complete efficient approach to managing staff training and performance appraisal using the latest web and software technologies, improving efficiency, reducing waste and risk.
