Description

EDITORIAL NOTE 2013100536 There is one page of the description only Description This disclosure relates to the field of auctions, particularly online auctions. An online auction is an auction which is held over the internet. An auction is a process of buying and selling goods or services by offering them up for bid, taking bids, and then selling the item. There are various types of online auctions, most have become a fixture of electronic commerce. Currently, auctions have a single bidding process and auctions close based on a highest bidder or last bidder basis. The present invention relates to improving online auctions by implementing a two stage bidding process where bids are automatically registered and the winner is determined based on having the highest number of bids allocated towards the second stage of the online auction. The auction itself can also have 2 stages but this can be determined by the auction site owner.

Claims (4)

1. Method of a two stage bidding process for online auctions; In the two stage bidding method, bidders enter the number of bids to register in stage 1 and enter the number of bids to register in stage 2. The number of bids they register in the field stage 1 sets the limit of the number of bids they can register in the field, stage 2. The number of bids entered for stage 1 allows the user to register up to the same amount of bids in stage 2. Stage 2 bids cannot exceed stage 1 bids.
2. Method for automatic registering bids in an auction with a two stage bidding process. In the two stage bidding method, bidders enter the number of bids to register in stage 1 and enter the number of bids to register in stage 2. When the bids are submitted, all bids are registered automatically and all bids that are registered in stage 1 and stage 2 contribute to the item reaching the item's reserve price regardless of which stage the auction is in.
3. Method of an auction with 2 stage bidding. The auction has 2 stages .The first stage is where the item's reserve price has not been achieved. Once the reserve price is achieved, stage 2 starts. If the item has no reserve stage 2 will begin automatically. Stage 2 begins by a timer (the time to nominate is selected by the auction site owner) which counts down. Once the timer with the nominated time period ends, the winner is determined based on the rules nominated by the auction site owner.
4. Method of selecting a winner of an auction with 2 stage bidding. In two stage bidding the number of bids entered for stage 1 allows the user to register up to the same amount of bids in stage 2. The winner of the auction is the bidder who registered the most bids towards stage 2 when the auction closes. In the event of a tie, the bidder involved in the tie with the highest number of bids in stage 1 is declared the winner. In the event that this still eventuates in a tie, the bidder who placed the earliest bid (in terms of time) in stage 1 is declared the winner.
