Detailed Description of Preferred Embodiments [029] Referring to Figures, there is shown a cushion 10 in accordance with the present invention. The cushion 10 comprises a cushion body 11 formed from a first side wall 12 and a second side wall 14 separated by a padding 5 material. Each of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 comprise a sheet of material of generally the same shape. [030] Each of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 includes a peripheral edge and the edge of the first side wall 12 is secured to the edge of the second side wall 14 such that an interior space is defined between the first and second side walls 12 and 14 to receive the padding material. The edges of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 are joined by suitable means, such as stitching. The joined edges of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 thereby define a common seam 16 around the edge of the cushion 10. [031] The cushion 10 includes a first end 18 and a second end 20. In the embodiment shown, each of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 includes a generally curved first edge 22 adjacent the first end 18 and a generally linear second edge 24 adjacent the second end 20. First and second side edges 26 and 28 join between the first and second edges 22 and 23. It will be appreciated that the first and second side walls 12 and 14 may be provided in a variety of shapes. [032] The cushion 10 is provided also with a first cover member 30 and a second cover member 32. Each of the first and second cover members 30 and 32 comprises a flexible sheet of material. [033] A portion of the edge of the first cover member 30 is secured to a portion of the common seam 16 adjacent the first end 18 of the cushion. The first cover member 30 is provided in the same shape as a portion of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 adjacent the first ends 18 thereof. That is, the first cover member 30 in the embodiment shown includes a curved first edge 23 and first and second side edges 27 and 29 extending away from opposite ends of the first edge 23. The curved first edge 23 is secured to the common seam 16 along the curved first edge 22. The first side edge 27 of the first cover member 30 is secured adjacent the common seam 16 along a portion of the first side edge 26 and the second side edge 29 is secured adjacent the common seam 16 along a portion of the second side edge 28.
6 [034] A portion of the edge of the second cover member 32 is secured to a portion of the common seam 16 adjacent the second end 20 of the cushion. The second cover member 32 is provided in the same shape as a portion of the first and second side walls 12 and 14 adjacent the second ends 20 thereof. That is, the second cover member 32 in the embodiment shown includes a generally linear first edge 23 and first and second side edges 27 and 29 extending away from opposite ends of the first edge 23. The linear first edge 23 is secured to the common seam 16 along the linear second edge 24. The first side edge 27 of the second cover member 32 is secured adjacent the common seam 16 along a portion of the first side edge 26 and the second side edge 29 is secured adjacent the common seam 16 along a portion of the second side edge 28. [035] Each of the first and second cover members 30 and 32 therefore includes a second edge 34 which is not secured to the cushion 10. In the embodiment shown, each of the first and second cover members 12 and 14 is sized such that when the second edge 34 of the first cover member 30 is located adjacent the second edge 34 of the second cover member 32, the total size and shape of the first and second cover members 30 and 32 combined is approximately the same as the first and second cover members 12 and 14. That is, the second edges 34 of the first and second cover members 30 and 32 are located adjacent each other without overlapping. [036] Each of the first and second cover members 30 and 32 may be moved from a position in which it is adjacent the first side wall 12 to a position in which it is adjacent the second side wall 14. When the first cover member 30 is located adjacent the first side wall 12, a first side surface thereof is visible. When the first cover member 30 is adjacent the second side wall 14, a second side surface thereof is visible. When the second cover member 32 is located adjacent the first side wall 12, a first side surface thereof is visible. When the second cover member 32 is adjacent the second side wall 14, a second side surface thereof is visible. [037] The cushion 10 may therefore be moved between four different configurations. In a first configuration (as shown in Figure 1a), the first cover 7 member 30 is located adjacent the first side wall 12 and the second cover member 32 is located adjacent the second side wall 14. In a second configuration (as shown in Figure 1c), the first cover member 30 is located adjacent the second side wall 14 and the second cover member 32 is located adjacent the second side wall 14. In a third configuration (as shown in Figure 4a), the first cover member 30 is located adjacent the second side wall 14 and the second cover member 32 is located adjacent the first side wall 12. In a fourth configuration (as shown in Figure 5d), the first cover member 30 is located adjacent the first side wall 12 and the second cover member 32 is located adjacent the first side wall 12. [038] By applying different ornamentation or images to each side surface of the first and second cover members 12 and 14 and also applying different ornamentation or images to the first and second side walls 12 and 14 adjacent the first and second ends 18 and 20, a variety of different appearances can be created. The images applied to each side surface of the first and second cover members 12 and 14 and adjacent first and second ends 18 and 20 of the side walls 12 and 14 may each comprise half of a complete image such that a complete image is created from a pair of adjacent images. In Figures 5a to 5h, the complete image comprises a character. [039] Upper facial features of the character are provided on both side surfaces of the first cover member 30 and on the first and second side walls 12 and 14 adjacent the first ends 18. Lower facial features are provided on both side surfaces of the second cover member 32 and on the first and second side walls 12 and 14 adjacent the second ends 20. Different variations on the appearance of the character can therefore be created by moving the first and second cover members 12 and 14. [040] It will be readily apparent to persons skilled in the relevant arts that various modifications and improvements may be made to the foregoing embodiments, in addition to those already described, without departing from the basic inventive concepts of the present invention.
