Abstract

Abstract Dog garment with an innovative construction comprised of separate nylon straps joined to two separate points of the spine of the coat. These straps converge at their respective ends and are secured to a metal "0" ring. The "0" ring is also is attached to another single nylon strap that passes under the girth of the dog and attaches to the opposite side. This strap has a hook fastener so when attached to the opposite side anchor point the jacket is secured around the dog. The formation of the side straps holds the jacket against the lateral body sides of the dog for a contoured fitting. This construction facilitates easier application for the coat by the dog handler. Background The use of garments on dogs date back to ancient times. Presently many dog jackets types and variations are available and are worn by a variety of dogs for a variety of reasons. Highly active dogs and dogs employed in areas such as livestock management, guarding and security duties require a garment that provides protection, warmth without hindering movement. Presently the majority of dog garments are made for house or toy dogs with a significant lack of product for outdoor or working dogs. These dogs may be involved in physical activities and presently almost all dog coats invariably use plastic clips, single lateral straps and Velcro to fasten the girth strap, chest strap or both. The present innovation addresses these gaps in the offering and there is a need for a practical, secure fitting coat, that is simple for a handler to mount on the dog, does notr restrict movement whilst still catering for variations in dog body size/type.
3 Summary of Invention There are three main advantage of the present innovation. The first is to provide dogs with a garment that has a flexible fit as per the varying physique of each dog breed or type. Dogs even same breed still differ in size and shape and this innovation serves to address that directly by being an open form design and construction. The second advantage is to provide a snug and comfortable fit for the dog. Many dogs jackets don't provide a snug comfortable fit due to their design and construction. Furthermore, the use of two straps may interfere with a male dogs genitalia so the use of a single strap that lies across the girth resolves this issue. The third is to provide a convenient and simplified system for the dog handler to fasten the garment with fewer components. Features and advantages of this invention will be apparent upon reading the specifications that follow on from here and they will provide more details in terms of design and functionality. This inventive system addresses the key issue of how the jacket is held to the sides of the dog. Usually, straps are stitched to the side of such dog garments and these straps by way of pulling and tension on side of the jacket, pass under the dog girth and are fastened to the other side of the jacket thereby providing a hold for the mid section of the jacket. The inventive system we propose has two straps joined at the spine of the jacket that meet and are joined to an o-ring. These straps hold the jacket in place whilst being worn by the dog. (01) It is unique in that it draws from the front withers and the rear (2) and is intersected at the 0 ring (3) that allows the jacket to fit on any type of dog form or size.
4 Description [0001] The description herein makes reference to the accompanying drawings wherein reference numerals refer to like components throughout the various views. [0002] The present innovation is an improved way of securing a dog coat when being worn 29. This is achieved by incorporating separate nylon straps joined to two separate points of the spine of the coat. These straps converge at their respective ends and are secured to a metal "0" ring. Joined to this "0" ring is another single nylon strap that passes under the girth of the dog and attaches to the opposite side. This single girth strap has a hook fastener attached to it's end so when attached to the opposite side anchor point and allows the jacket to be secured around the girth dog. [0003] Figure 1 is a side plan view of the jacket as it would be worn on a dog. [0004] Figure 2 is a side plan view of the jacket and shows the opposite side of the jacket fastening points as it would be when worn on a dog. [0005] Figure 3 is a representative view of the jacket as it would be worn on a dog. [0006] As seen in Figure 1 and Figure 2 the jacket is designed to fit on a variety of dog build types and sizes. [0007] The dog coat itself is made from three layers of material. The outer shell is a single piece of Matte Cloth PU Coated material 9 that covers ( in a saddle like fashion) the upper region of the dog torso extending from the front withers 14 back to the rear of the dog hindquarters (croup) 15 and both lateral sides of the dogs body 9 with the exception of the underbelly. The coat is ergonomically designed to cover the top portion of the dog torso 28 and the jacket does not hinder movement or legs of the dog. [0008] The internal lining of the coat that is directly in contact with the dog fur/skin is Polyester Fabric Taffeta Cloth 10 and the insulation material between the external shell and internal lining material is PolyFill. [0009] The jacket has two Nylon single ply webbing straps that hold the jacket in place on the dog. Both of these straps can be either elongated or shortened by adjusting the metal slider 28 and 12. The front strap is worn horizontally across the dog's chest and is 5 anchored at one side of the jacket by box stitching directly onto the jacket 6. The horizontal chest strap 8 has a metal hook fastener 7 attached to the end of the strap which allows the strap to be attached to the "0" ring 19 located on the opposite side of the jacket. The "0" ring 19 is secured to the jacket 27by a short nylon patch that is looped through the "0" Ring and box stitched to the jacket 26. When the strap is attached and fitted it holds the front part of the dog coat in place and prevents the coat from sliding backwards on or off the dog. [0010] The lateral side strap construction is the main present innovation of this product. The torso holding strap design 2. Both sides of the jacket have a strap Fig 1: 4 and 5, Fig 2, 23 and 24 that are secured to the front and rear points of the "spine" of the jacket 16 and joined to a steel "0" ring 1 and 22. The "0" ring allows for some movement to accommodate the sizes/shapes of different dogs within each size category. [0011] When pulled downward the V shape strap construction centred by the "0" ring causes the coat material to be held down against the sides of the dog by the simple application of the V shaped being channelled through one point . [0012] This is achieved by another adjustable 12 strap 3 connected to the "0" Ring 1 that passes under the girth underbelly of the dog and joins to the "0" ring on the opposing side 22 with a steel hook fastener clip 21. This "0" ring 22 is also joined to the strap 23 and 24 that is secured to the horizontal Nylon webbing spinal strap 18 of the jacket so when fastened the coat is held down by the pressure of the straps 23, 24, 4 and 5 against the sides of the dog. [0013] This placement of the straps 23, 24, 4 and 5, reduces disruption of the coat when worn by the dog and allows the coat to be held in place by the Y shaped formation 23, 24, 4 and 5 of the straps on both sides of the dog. The present innovation is comfortable for the dog and provides simplicity of practical use and application for the dog handler when fitting the dog. This is done by having one 17 single girth strap to fasten as opposed to two separate girth straps.
6 [0014] To remove the coat the side hook fastener 21 is simply unfastened and the coat can be removed by pulling it up and over the dogs head. The front strap can be retained as it already fits the dogs width/chest size and does not need to be unfastened. [0015] The present innovation is further enhanced by the use of the "0" ring on the lateral sides of the coat and these by way of shape allow for adjustment to accommodate different dog body types, builds or sizes. The "0" ring allows the strap to retain its form whilst permitting the angle of adjustment without being uncomfortable for the dog across the girth area given that each dog is unique in it's physicality. [0016] It will be apparent that various changes and modifications can be made without departing from the scope of the invention as defined in the claims.
