Abstract
A clamping device for securing a ladder to a gutter said clamping device comprising an oblong box [7] with a control arm [9] passing through openings [10, 11] defined in opposing walls of the box, said control arm is attached at one end to a clamp head [5] secured to the gutter whereas its other end is attached to a toggle lever [6] that provides a clamping action between said lever and a wing [6] extending from the box and co acting with the ladder.
Description
[1] Invention Title The invention is described in the following statement. [0001]For many years ladders have been attached by rope and other methods to hold to gutters. This invention has been specially devised in order to provide an improved clamp of cheap affective and durable construction and where attach one to the other; a clamp can in accordance with this invention. [0002] Comprises a box with an extended wing having an opening each end of said box, In the narrow side having of such size and in such a position that allows the operating arm to pass through the said box, the operating arm is of such size enabling said arm to extend sufficiently to attach the clamp head on the high side of the said arm and is held with a screw through the said arm to the other side of the clamp head which has a securing nut. [0003 On the lower side of the said arm a locking toggle lever which in turn is held metal peg through the said toggle lever and arm and secured with a U clip, when the toggle lever is in the down position the clamp is locked in such a way that it has a clamping action between the clamp head and the wing that is immovable, [0004] The extended wing on the box has a lug along the length of the said wing together with the clamp head once engaged have a holding acting one against the other locking the ladder and the roof gutter together this in turn allows a work position for the operator on a ladder even by ones self. Ref 58 [2] The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me. The clamp box and control arm is preferable from aluminium, however other materials can be used for example industrial grade plastic for or any part of the clamping device or any suitable material plus fibreglass. The invention may be better under stood with reference to the illustration of embodiment of the invention within. Figure [I is a complete view of an improved clamp with parts attached and the co acting position of the control arm with clamp head and the toggle leaver. Figure [2and 3] are showing the opening each end of the oblong box section and control arm Figure [4] is of a view of the control arm to secure the clamp head and toggle lever. Figure [5and 6] are showing the securing peg and U clip for the toggle plus the T shaped screw the clamp head which has its own imbedded nut. Figure [7] showing the clamp unit attached to the gutter with the wing co acting with the ladder, Ref 58 2 [3] Figure [8] showing another view of the clamp box unit, with the control passing through from the toggle to the clamp head, with the wing and holding lug that holds the ladder, The oblong box as shown in [7] in FIG [2] has in its walls the narrow end of the said box in [10] in Fig [2] and [11) shown in Fig [3], in the wing side showing [9] is fitted through [10] to [11] where as showing [5] inFigl which is made to fit the said arm[9] to one of the holes 1131 Fig [2] with a screw [14] Fig [6] to other side of [5] having a nut imbedded in the side, on the lower of [9] Fig [1] has the toggle lever [6] Fig [1]held with a peg [15] Fig [5] passing through 16] and said [9] to apposing side of [6] were by held with a U clip which when the said leaver [6] is in the closed position completes the action to provide a secure grip. It should also be noted [9] the control arm has more than one hole and can have more for adjustment in the length of the said arm, in order to secure the head of the clamp [5] to the gutter or the like. The position of the opening [10] and [111 are to compensate for the angle of the ladder so the clamp head [5] remains straight on the gutter or the like. REF 58 3
Claims (5)
- 2. A clamping device as in clam I were as the clamp head is attached to the control arm inserted from the narrow wall opening, then the toggle leaver can be fitted to the other end of the control arm allowing a complementary outward inward action of the arm in the wall's allows for its intended clamping action in conjunction with the wing.
- 3. A clamping device according to I and 2 were as the clamp box and arm plus clamp head and toggle are maid from aluminium or industrial plastic or from all or any combination including mental or any other type of material including fibreglass.
- 4. A clamping device according to any one of one the claims to I- 3where as the clamp has a griping co action when applied .which in turn will secure a ladder by either the left or the right of the ladder or both to the gutter or the like.
- 5. A clamping device substantially as herein before described with reference to figures 1 to 10 of the accompanying drawings. REF 58 [Name of Applicant J
