Abstract

A common threaded D-shackle of which the bow has an internally threaded collar added (crimped or forged) to the unthreaded eye, for use with a pin which has a raised rolled thread, wherein the pin can be screwed into the internally threaded collared eye of the bow initially and then retained by that same thread. W(N)

Description

1 Description This invention relates to the common threaded Dee-Shackles used to secure objects together - for example: attaching trailer safety chains to tow bars, fastening anchors to anchor warps, a removeable link in a chain or wire rope, heavy lifting equipment etc. For such activities the ordinary threaded Dee- Shackles have two independent items: a bow and a pin. These two items are separated entirely each time the shackle pin is unscrewed. The pin which is the smaller of the two items, often gets lost, thereby rendering the bow useless. This loss occurs either at the time of trying to secure objects together or when separating objects. It is costly to replace these on a regular basis, inconvenient to have a bow with no pin and at times unsafe to be without the means of keeping two items together, in either case the Dee Shackle is incomplete and unable to be used at all. Previous attempts to solve this problem include: 1. A chain attached to the pin and threaded onto the shacke and 2.Retaining the pin by crimping the non-threaded eye along with using a pin with a rolled raised thread. 1: While keeping the two parts together when the Dee-Shackle is not in use, it is impractical for a Dee-Shackle in use. A short chain tangles and jams as the pin is screwed into the thread and a longer chain is a nuisance, often getting in the way of the load being secured. 2:The crimped eye will not allow the pin to fall back flush with the opening of the eye and does not allow for removal or replacement of the pin if necessary. The object of the present invention is to provide a threaded Dee-Shackle which will captivate the pin, but also allow for full width opening of the bow and purposeful removal of the pin ir replacement is necessary.

Claims (5)

1. A common threaded dee-shackle of which the bow has an internally threaded collar added (crimped or forged) to the unthreaded eye, for use with a pin which has a raised rolled thread.
2. A dee-shackle as claimed in Claim 1, wherein the said pin, can be screwed into the internally threaded collared eye of the bow initially and then retained by that same thread.
3. A dee-shackle bow as claimed in Claim 1 and Claim 2, of which the internal diameter fo the added collar is a clearance fit on the shank of the said pin, but an interference fit with the raised rolled thread of the said pin.
4. A dee-shackle bow as claimed in Claims 1,2 and 3 wherein the length of the unthreaded portion of the collared eye is the same length as the rolled raised thread of the said pin allowing the said pin to slide back providing a full width internal opening for the bow.
5. A dee-shackle bow as claimed in any preceding claim, which retains or captivates the pin in the open position by way of an additional collar.
