Abstract

Abstract The present invention relates to a system for constructing an activity management system, in which real time collaboration and communication are enabled through the use of collaboration modules. Unlike a conventional project management system where tools for real time communication are unavailable, the present invention is unique because it enables various forms of communication to be achieved for any instance of a project or task without the use of external communication systems. Title An improved activity management system Field of invention 5 The present invention relates to an activity management system, specifically a system which provides an improved approach and integrated functionalities for real-time collaboration of activities, projects and tasks. .o Background of the invention Real time collaboration and communication are often needed between members working on team based activities and tasks. Even though there are no shortages of software for managing projects on the market today, problems still exist in the area of .s real time collaboration, where there is no consistent approach on how collaboration and communications can be performed effectively between members working on a project or task. An ideal project management program should provide a generic framework for which o common projects and tasks could be organized across different locations. It should also provide functionalities to accommodate specific needs of businesses from different industries and areas of specialization. Moreover, projects should be regarded by the project manager as an opportunity for discovering talented individuals. These ideal could be accomplished if adequate communication tools are provided by the project 25 management system. It is an object of the present invention to disclose an improved system in which an integrated communication environment is enabled for each activity, project or task. The invention provides a system and framework where real time collaboration and 30 communication for simple and complex activities could be performed effectively and efficiently. 1 Summary of the invention The present invention provides a method for providing an activity management system comprising steps of providing and integrating a series and, or plurality of activities to respective modules, wherein said modules are selected from one or 5 more modules comprising of a schedule module, a mail module, a desk module, a camera module, a shelf module, a chat module and a notices module. Preferably, said activity includes any concept which sorts and groups information or data into logical categories, said activity consists at least one of: a) Project .0 b) Task c) Job d) Event e) Topic f) interest .s g) Newsfeed, wherein said newsfeed may consist of URLs, images and, or any items selected from a) to e). Preferably, said schedule module provides functionalities for creating, editing and distributing of schedules for organizing and scheduling of activities and events, said schedule module provides one schedule module instance per activity in said activity 20 management which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously. 2 Preferably, said mail module provides functionalities for creating, editing, receiving and distributing emails, said mail module provides one mail module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or 5 b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously. In another embodiment, the modules include an activity pane module, an activity type module and an activity item module. '0 In one embodiment, the activity may be integrated to at least 2 modules. B100 is a control pane which lists most general controls for the project management 30 system. These controls may include at least one of the following: 10 a) File controls where files of a project or task may be saved, created and retrieved b) Task controls where aspects of a task may be created and modified 5 c) Format controls where texts and charts may be created and modified. C100 is typically referred to as task sheet where a list of tasks to be completed is listed. D100 is a splitter bar which may be used to adjust or resize the area of the activity pane .o relative to the collaboration pane (C100 & E100). E100 may be referred to as the schedule window where typically a list of Gantt bars is created and displayed for each task listed on the task sheet C100. .s The conventional approach adopted by most project management software on the market today assigns one schedule for all tasks on a task sheet. The present invention provides a unique approach where: a) A project or task has only one instance of a collaboration module such that each o project may have its own schedule. b) A project or task may have more than one instance of a collaboration module such that each project may have an association with more than one schedule. 25 Fig 2 - A diagram showing the modules for constructing the software system The modules for constructing the present invention are described as follows: Z is an area representing the scope of the present invention where the modules are included. 30 11 A is an activity pane module which provides an area where one or more activity types and activity items may be created and listed. Al is an activity type module which may be used to create, edit and delete one or more 5 activity types such as a project and task. A1.1 is an activity item module which may be used to create, edit and delete one or more activity items such as a project and task. Activity items that belong to the same type are grouped under the same activity type. For example, projects are grouped under .o the type 'project', tasks are grouped under the type 'task'. B is a collaboration pane module which provides an area where the collaboration modules are presented. .s B1 is a schedule module which comprises of functionalities for providing, editing and removing of schedules with one or more gnatt charts. Preferably, at least one schedule is provided for each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. B2 is a mail module which comprises of functionalities for providing, editing and o removing of electronic mails. Preferably, at least one mailbox is provided for each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. B3 is a desk module which comprises of functionalities for providing, editing and removing of files on a virtual desk space, where files and document may be inserted 25 removed and viewed in real time. Preferably, at least one desk space is provided for each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. B4 is a camera module which comprises of functionalities for providing, editing and removing of camera channels. Preferably, at least one camera channel is provided for 30 each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. 12 B5 is a shelf module which comprises of functionalities for providing, editing and removing of virtual shelf spaces where a shelf space provides storage facilities for storing files and documents. Preferably, at least one shelf is provided for each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. 5 B6 Is a chat module which comprises of functionalities for editing and removing of text content and symbols posted in a chat room. Preferably, at least one chat room is provided for each activity type or activity item listed on the activity pane. .o B7 is a notices module which comprises of feature for providing, editing and removing of notices or announcements on a notice board. The present invention is built on the idea 30 of a unique relationship between any instance of a collaboration module (or module) and any instance of an activity item and/or activity. 43 Although the invention has been described with respect to specific embodiments thereof, these embodiments are merely illustrative, and not restrictive of the invention. For example, although activity management program are described, embodiments of the present invention may be adopted to suit the needs of other applications such as web 5 and/or desktop applications. One of the diagramming techniques used herein may be referred to as Unified Modelling Language (UML), a visual language for capturing software designs and patterns. A UML model is often used to capture the "big picture"; the high-level ideas .o and logical relationship between the different parts and/or behaviours of a software system. One skilled in the relevant art does not need to know the intricate details of low level implementation (the code) in order to build a system with identical characteristics to that of the current invention. .s Any suitable programming language can be used to implement the routines of embodiments of the present invention including C, C++, Java, C#, php, python, assembly language, etc. Different programming techniques can be employed such as procedural or object oriented. The routines can execute on a single processing device or multiple processors. Although the steps, operations, or computations may be o presented in a specific order, this order may be changed in different embodiments. In some embodiments, multiple steps shown as sequential in this specification can be performed at the same time. The sequence operations described herein can be interrupted, suspended, or otherwise controlled by another process, such as an operating system, kernel, etc. The routines can operate in an operating system 25 environment or as stand-alone routines occupying all, or a substantial part, of the system processing. Functions can be performed in hardware, software, or a combination of both. In the description herein, numerous specific details are provided, such as examples of 30 components and/or methods, to provide a thorough understanding of embodiments of the present invention. One skilled in the relevant art will recognize, however, that an 44 embodiment of the invention can be practiced without one or more of the specific details, or with other apparatus, systems, assemblies, methods, components, materials, parts, and/or the like. Claims (20)

1. A method for providing an activity management system comprising steps of providing and integrating a series and, or plurality of activities to respective 5 modules, wherein said modules are selected from one or more modules comprising of a schedule module, a mail module, a desk module, a camera module, a shelf module, a chat module and a notices module.

The method according to claim 1, wherein said activity includes any concept which sorts and groups information or data into logical categories, said activity .0 consists at least one of: a) Project b) Task c) Job d) Event 15 e) Topic f) interest g) Newsfeed, wherein said newsfeed may consist of URLs, images and, or any items selected from a) to e). 48

The method according to claim 1, wherein said schedule module provides functionalities for creating, editing and distributing of schedules for organizing and scheduling of activities and events, said schedule module provides one schedule module instance per activity in said activity management which has up 5 to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously. .0

The method according to claim 1, wherein said mail module provides functionalities for creating, editing, receiving and distributing emails, said mail module provides one mail module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or 15 b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously.

The method according to claim 1, wherein said desk module provides functionalities for creating, editing, distributing and viewing of files and folder, 49 said desk module provides one desk module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or 5 c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously.

The method according to claim 1, wherein said camera module provides functionalities for creating and editing of camera channels for visual and audio communication as well as real time sharing of videos, said camera module .0 provides one camera module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is 15 produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously.

The method according to claim 1, wherein said shelf module provides functionalities for creating, editing and distributing folders for storing files and documents, said shelf module provides one shelf module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: 20 50 a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously. s

The method according to claim 1, wherein said chat module provides functionalities for creating and editing of text messages in an online chat room environment, said chat module provides one chat module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously.

The method according to claim 1, wherein said notices module provides functionalities for creating, editing and distributing notices or message posts and 15 articles, as well as any comments associated with said notices and articles, said notice module provides one notice module instance per activity in said activity management system which has up to or at least: a) 1 said activity in operation, or b) 2 said activity in operation, or 51 c) a value selected from a collection of values, where said collection of value is produced from b) being incremented by 1 continuously.
10.A system for providing an activity management system on a machine readable device or apparatus, wherein said activity management system comprise of 5 integrating a series and, or plurality of activities to respective modules, wherein said modules are selected from one or more modules comprising of a schedule module, a mail module, a desk module, a camera module, a shelf module, a chat module and a notices module.
