Abstract
A LED light bulb with safety vent has at least one group of safety vents along the junction of its transparent cover and supporting case, and the case having more safety vents on the terminal end to provide air flow inside the LED light bulb. CB Ct FIG. 2 B-B Al FIG. 3 =C-
Description
AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT LED LIGHT BULB WITH SAFETY VENT The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: 1 LED LIGHT BULB WITH SAFETY VENT Most of LED light bulbs use aluminum case as heat sink for thermal dissipation. The transparent cover and aluminum case are normally sealed for dust proof. The aluminum case is quite hot even the LED bulb consumes only a few watts power. Some small power LED bulbs use plastic case with vents, but the vents are not designed for air flow properly and even unsafe. A child may touch the LED circuit with a fine metal wire while the LED bulb is in operation. A LED light bulb with safety vent in accordance with this invention comprises a LED light bulb has at least one group of safety vents along the junction of its transparent cover and supporting case, and the case having more safety vents on the terminal end to provide better air flow inside the LED light bulb. The safety vent has an interlacing interlayer vent allowing the air flow but stopping the foreign object, like a needle or metal wire, being put through directly. The safety vent is constructed to protect the Printed Circuit Board - PCB of the LED, which might have dangers voltage, being touched accidentally due to a conductive object being put in. So the vents may meet safety regulation requirement. The inner edge of the supporting case of the LED bulb is set to higher than the LED PCB plane. The PCB is fixed in the supporting case. The out edge of the transparent cover is set to lower than the inner edge of the supporting case. And so the outer and inner edges are overlapped. The venting channel is turning at right angle from outside the LED bulb, and turning again towards the empty space inside the LED bulb. So the venting air may come into or go out of the LED bulb freely to bring the heat away. On the terminal end of the LED supporting case, similar safety vents 2 may be used to improve the air flow inside the LED bulb. Due to the LED heating, the temperature will be different between the vents along the intersection of the transparent cover and the vents on the terminal end of the supporting case, the inner air will flow as its natural feature. A power connector on the terminal end may be connected to the high AC voltage supply of the lighting appliance socket. It is also protected by the lighting appliance, so the vents are not easily accessed during normal working condition, and so the terminal vents structure can be easily and simply made. Both plastic and metal case LED bulb may use the same safety vents to allow the air flowing into or out of its transparent cover and the supporting case. This will reduce the LED working temperature directly, improve the LED bulb reliability and increase the LED life time. The invention may be better understood with reference to the illustrations of embodiments of the invention which: Figure 1 is an elevation of a simplified LED light bulb structure. The left half is the cross cut viewing for better showing the structure of the top cover vents and the terminal end vents. The power connector is not showed on the drawing. Figure 2 is a bottom view of the terminal end of a simplified LED light bulb structure. The left half is the cross cut down viewing for better showing the terminal end vents structure. Figure 3 is a top cross cut view of a simplified LED light bulb structure. The transparent cover 2 and disc PCB 3 are fixed on the supporting case 1 as in Figure 1. The interlacing interlayer of the cover 2 and case 1 are the venting channels. The disc PCB 3 also has a big hole in the 3 middle area for the venting air going through. On the terminal end, similar vents allow the air coming into or going out of the LED bulb freely, to form an internal venting channel from the cover vents and going through the PCB hole to bring away the heat on the PCB. Figure 1 - 3 are showing a practical structure of a LED light bulb. With the safety vents, the LED light bulb may use a plastic case. And the LED light bulb is safer and more reliable. For high power LED light bulb, an aluminum supporting case can be a better choice. An extra plastic adaptor between the mental case and the power connector may be required.
Claims (4)
1. A LED light bulb with safety vent has at least one group of safety vents along the junction of its transparent cover and supporting case, and the outer edge of the vent on the transparent cover is not higher than the inner edge of the supporting case, and so the outer edge of the vent on the transparent cover and the inner edge of the supporting case are overlapped, and the gap between the outer edge of the transparent cover and the inner edge of the supporting case forms the safety vent channel of the LED light bulb.
2. A LED light bulb with safety vent as claimed in claim 1 has a group of safety vents on the terminal end to provide an air flow channel inside the LED light bulb.
3. A LED light bulb with safety vent as claimed in claim 1 and claim 2 has at least one disc PCB, and the PCB has at least one venting hole for providing the air flow channel inside the LED light bulb.
4. A LED light bulb with safety vent as herein before described with reference to the description and/or figure 1 - 3 of the accompanying drawings. DONGNING ZHANG 30 NOVEMBER 2011
