Description

1 Description This invention relates to improvements in aspirating a mixture of water and liquid fire-fighting foam concentrate to allow the air-foam mix to expand in a more effective manner when leaving a fire-fighting nozzle fitted with this new invention. Many fire-fighting nozzles currently exist in the market, but all rely on a 2-piece system for regulating the amount of air drawn into the water-liquid fire-fighting foam mix. This implies the standard nozzle requires two hands to operate the nozzle effectively. This invention is an aspirating nozzle tip which can be inserted into most existing commercial fire-fighting nozzles. It aspirates the water-liquid fire-fighting foam mixture constantly, producing a superior aspirated mixture, with the advantage of being able to operate with a water-only fluid flow without impeding the performance of the nozzle under this condition. In one form of the invention the aspirating nozzle tip described in this invention comprises of a brass nozzle tip, machined to be fitted by a screw thread to an existing fire-fighting nozzle, comprising of an expansion chamber with aspiration holes created in the rear of the expansion chamber which allows air to be drawn into the expanson chamber by the venturi effect, where it mixes with the water-fire-fighting foam concentrate causing an expansion of the foam and an improved fire-fighting foam output from the nozzle.

Claims (8)

1. An aspiration nozzle tip for a fire-fighting nozzle comprising of a screw-in brass nozzle tip machined with holes allowing air to enter the expansion chamber in the nozzle tip.
2. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 1, where the aspitation holes are located on the rear surface of the expansion chamber.
3. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 2, where the aspiration holes are positioned to be at approximately 30 degrees above the horizontal formed between the centre axis of the holes and an axis determined by the direction of the water flow entering the expansion chamber.
4. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 3, where there may be 6 such aspiration holes.
5. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 4, where the diameter of the aspiration holes may be approximately 4mm each.
6. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 1, where the diameter of the outlet of the expansion chamber may be 16mm.
7. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 1, where the diameter of the rear surface of the expansion chamber may be 12mm.
8. The aspiration nozzle tip of claim 6, where the length of the expansion chamber may be either 20mm or 30mm or 40mm, but may be any length depending upon the desired performance output of the aspirated water-fire-fighting foam mix.
