Description

AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT PIVOTING STORAGE FINGER FOR WAKEBOARD TOWER RACKS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it know to me Mr James Odell COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT SWINGING FINGER RACK 5 The present invention relates to a swinging finger rack that can be used to fasten to any base plate, surface or other platform and allow for the easy movement of the rack fingers. In the past, fingers of racks were permanently positioned so that the fingers could not be 10 moved freely to allow for change of the rack for storage, travelling or for other purposes, creating issues including danger of collisions with other vehicles, objects or persons if the fingers of the rack were left extended. The present invention allows for the fingers of the rack to swing inside the exterior 15 outside lines of vehicles, spaces or other objects, making it safe to maintain storage racks. According to the present invention there is provided a storage rack including: a first portion being a base plate with drilled holes enabling pivoting of the fingers 20 of the rack a second portion being the fingers for a storage rack wherein the fingers are attached to a base plate, and the fastening and removal of bolts or other securing devices enables the rack fingers to pivot, swing and lock into a position of any desired angle. 25 It is possible for the fingers of the rack to change according to the goods to be carried and stored, including changes in the shape of the fingers, space provided for between the fingers, and angle of the fingers. 30 A preferred embodiment of the present invention will now be described with reference to the accompanying drawings, in which: Fig. 1 is a front elevational view of a storage rack 35 Fig. 2 is a side perspective cross sectional view of a storage rack in an extended position Fig. 3 is a side perspective cross sectional view of a storage rack in a pivoted and rotated position 40 The portions may be made of any suitable material such as aluminium and stainless steel for bolts. It is preferred that first portion 1 is bolted securely onto a frame, board, or other 45 appropriate surface providing a base plate for the attachment of second portion 2.
It is preferred that second portion 2 comprises of the swing finger pivot system, is attached to first portion 1, and is able to extend outwards from the base plate or platform area, or retract and pivot back to a position and angle as desired of up to 360 degrees. 5 It is preferred that a bolt 3 is inserted through the second portion 2 into the first portion 1 to hold the fingers in position and remains permanently in place to act as the pivoting point allowing the second portion 2 to change angles and swing up to 360 degrees. It is preferred that bolt 3, bolt 4, and bolt 5 are equidistant so that when the second 10 portion 2 is swung in direction 7, bolt 4 replaces bolt 5 to enable the swinging and stabilizing of the rack inwards, as shown in Fig. 3. It is preferred that bolts 9 also allow for the rack fingers to assume different positions of varying degrees. 15 It is preferred for a washer 8 made of nylon or other suitable material to be used for the permanent bolt 3. In addition to bolts, other securing devices include pins, screws, and quick release 20 handles. 25 James Odell 22 June 2011 2

Claims (1)

  1. 2. A swinging storage rack system for wakeboard tower according to claim 1, 15 wherein the base plate is affixed to a wakeboard tower frame or tube, and the storage rack fingers attached to the base plate enable the mounting of the fingers on the outer sides of the base plate such that they can pivot freely through 360 degrees about the base plate and can be locked into a number of discrete positions. 20 3. A swinging storage rack system for wakeboard tower according to claim 1 or 2, wherein the storage rack includes bolts, holes, or other securing devices equidistant from a permanent bolt or securing device to enable a minimum number of two holes in the sides of the base plate so that the storage rack can be swung and stabilized. 25 30 James Odell 22 June 2011 3
