Description
COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT PREWIRED ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: bv Charles Colin Kennedv I-'HEWIHEU ELEU I HIUAL UI I HIBU I IUN bYb I EM PREWIRED ELECTRICAL DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM SPECIFICATION. This invention relates to improvements and safety for the electrical power distribution and cable wiring to lights, power points and all electrical apparatus in industrial, commercial and domestic residential electrical installations. In most electrical installations, electrical wiring is concealed behind ceilings and in wall cavities and comprises of wired circuits in the form of cables containing electrical conductors, from the Main Distribution Board to General Power Outlets (GPO's), lights and light switches, ceiling fans, hot water systems, ovens, stoves, swimming pools and other electrical apparatus. The problems with current wiring methods is that all to often, cables are routed in a haphazard method, zigzagging across ceilings in the ceiling voids and this leads to potential damage to cables by mechanical contractors and the loss of cable identification during the cable and conductor connection phase of the project. There also exists a potential hazard during the cable connection stage, when electrical conductors are connected to apparatus such as lights, light switches, ceiling fans, General Power Points and other apparatus that are located in rooms that have poor natural lighting. In such poor lighting, electrical conductors can be incorrectly connected and poorly secured in the apparatus receptacle. These mistakes are time consuming to rectify during testing procedures and in some cases may not be identified for correction, creating electrical hazards and potential human injury. These problems are overcome by the present Innovation Invention which provides a Prewired Electrical Distribution System containing flexible insulated electrical conductors that is manufactured according to a paper plan of a building's floor plan that shows all the positions and specific requirements for the electrical apparatus installation of that building. The Prewired Electrical Distribution System provides electrical power from the local electrical distribution board and is a safe and pre-tested electrical plug in system, saving time, money and provides reduced personal risk and injury protection from electrical shock. In one form of the invention, a Flexible Encapsulated Harness provides the manufacture of a prewired flexible wire way at a different location to the building project, incorporating all the electrical conductors required for the specific building electrical reticulation. At intervals that suit the positions of the electrical apparatus, the electrical conductors exit the Encapsulated Harness and the electrical conductors are fitted with coded female plugs. The prewired harness is then installed and secured in the ceiling space to the rafters or perlins of the building or factory by a licensed electrician, along a predetermined path. Furthermore, the first set of lead-off electrical conductors are provided with coded male plugs on one end and coded female plugs at the other end and these lead-off cables are made up at the time of the Flexible Encapsulated Harness. The required lead-off electrical conductor is of sufficient length as to reach from the specific female plug in the Encapsulated Harness to the point of supply for the specific electrical apparatus in the building ceiling or cavity wall but not limited to such a position. Page 2 of 3 I-'HEWIHEU ELEU I HIUAL UI I HIBU I IUN bYb I EM Furthermore, a second set of lead-off electrical conductors are provided for each electrical apparatus. This second set of lead-off electrical conductors with a male coded plug will fit the female end of the lead-off cable, and may be used to pre-connect all the electrical apparatus at the time of installation. In another form of the invention, the Flexible Encapsulated Harness may be manufactured with moulded or retro fitted exit points containing coded female plugs to accept the male end of the lead-off electrical conductors. The Flexible Encapsulated Harness may be made from any suitable material such as PVC, flexible metal conduit, Flexible corrugated conduit or specially moulded plastic, PVC or similar synthetic material with or without a corrugation profile. The Flexible Encapsulated Harness may be made with an opening or slit along the entire length of the harness to allow for ease of installing the electrical conductors. This slit or opening may be hinged or self closing, and provided with integrated locking points. The Flexible Encapsulated Harness may have integrated mouldings or tags for mounting purposed. The coded male and female plugs may be made from any suitable material such as moulded plastic, PVC, or similar synthetic non conducting material. The male and female plug inserts may be copper or similar electricity conducting material. The lead-off electrical conductors may be PVC coated copper wire suitable for electrical installations. To assist with understanding the drawing, reference will now be made to the accompanying drawings which show one example of the invention. Page 3 of 3
