Description

1 Description Registration Label Holder This invention relates to improvements in devices to display registration and other labels. Most current registration labels are display in flat rectangular holders without positive sealing. The disadvantages of such a holder include the large surface area to be made watertight to prevent label damage and difficulties in mounting so as not to protrude from the vehicle or equipment they are mounted to while still being visible. Requirements of any registration label product In designing an alternative display method the requirement that essential information be visible for quick verification of the vehicle or equipments registration status and that all required information is viewable upon closer inspection. The product must be water and grime proof to prevent damage to or obscuring of the label, which is a failing of all currently available products. Mounting must be secure to prevent the loss of the device due to vibration and air pressure experience at operating speeds. The mounting method must be sufficiently strong and secure to prevent the easy theft of the label. The label holder must be of a sufficient size to allow all necessary information to be read while minimising the dimensions of the product for improved aesthetics. Various attempts have been made to design a registration label holder that meets these requirements. All current designs rely on achieving sufficient compressive force to hold the three component plates together and to minimise the prospect of water and foreign object ingress. Water ingress due to machining marks and surface defects is a common failing. This invention addresses all requirements of a registration label holder. The component parts are designed to be easily assembled together with a rubber o ring gasket between the back plate and the Perspex label cover with the front plate being of sufficient dimensions to provide a spread of the loading against the Perspex plate, securely sandwiching the rubber o-ring in it's mounting grove between the centre and rear plates. The entire unit is secured by way of stainless steel Allen key or 2 Torx screws with Star locking washers and regular or nyloc or self-locking nuts for maximum weather resistance and security. The centre plate is made of a high UV resistance material to prevent yellowing of the plate which is likely to prevent essential information being readily seen as required. A clear film is included to allow the easy insertion of the label into the tube without it sticking to the tube causing damage or preventing it being removed upon expiry. This material can be either a clear adhesive film that the label sticks to permanently or a static material that the label holds to by static attraction but is able to be removed from. The mounting tab has a single or optionally double mounting point to the vehicle maximising potential mounting locations. The design of the mounting tab is such that the possibility of stress points is minimised by having no sharp angles, while providing sufficient surface area to prevent twisting of the mounting tab at operating speeds, including high speed closed circuit. The tab design spreads loads out to the mounting points and has no undercuts likely to focus loads mid point in the bracket creating a high stress point.

Claims (10)

1. A Registration Label Holder of a rectangular construction manufacturerd of any combination of Metal, perspex, fibregalss or Carbon Fibre with mechanical sealing provided to prevent water and forign object ingress that may damage or obscure the registration label.
2. A Registration Label Holder of claim 1 with the rear plate having a rubber o-ring within a machined groved in that plate that seals against the clear centre plate.
3. A Registration Label Holder of claim 1 with the clear centre plate having a rubber o-ring within a machined groved in that plate that seals against the rear mounting plate
4. A Registration Label Holder of claim 1 and 2 where there is a mounting bracket made of metal with a single attachment point to the vehicle or equipment it is being displayed on.
5. A Registration Label Holder of claim 1 and 2 where there is a mounting bracket made of metal with multiple attachment points to the vehicle or equipment it is being displayed on.
6. A Registration Label Holder of claims 1 and 2 where there is a mounting bracket made of carbon or fibreglass composite materials with a single attachment point to the vehicle or equipment it is being displayed on.
7. A Registration Label Holder of claim 1 and 2 where there is a mounting bracket made of carbon or fibreglass composite materials with multiple attachment points to the vehicle or equipment it is being displayed on
8. A Registration Label Holder of claims 1 to 7 incorporating a clear adhesive film to permanently attach the registration label to, preventing the label from sticking to the inside of the tube. A new clear adhesive film is required for each change of label.
9. A Registration Label Holder of claims 1 to 7 incorporating a static cling clear film that the label will stick to while being able to be removed and the clear film re-used for subsequent labels.
10. A Registration Label Holder substantially as herein described. 4 Robert Roughton 19 March 2010
