Description

Regulation 3.2 AUSTRALIA Patents Act 1990 COMPLETE SPECIFICATION INNOVATION PATENT APPLICANT: LUDVIGH, Clint INVENTION TITLE: GROOMING APPARATUS The following statement is a full description of this invention, including the best method of performing it known to me: - Grooming Apparatus Field of the Invention This invention relates to a grooming apparatus. It is particularly related to a multi tooled 5 apparatus for grooming eyebrows but is not limited to such use. Background The use of a brow brush and tweezer are essential implements when waxing or plucking eyebrows. These essential implements have a different uses but work with a synergistic 10 effect to shape eyebrows and provide the users required look. The instruments are therefore used separately and consecutively and the user is required to alternate between the two as the only way to use these tools together successfully is if the user is ambidextrous. The associated disadvantage is that the user must use the one tool with the leading hand, and then swap when the other tool is needed. 15 There is clearly a problem with a user required to utilise a plurality of small tools as the use of small grooming tools and the need to locate these tools breaks the users concentration and takes the their focus away from the eye brows being treated. This causes a substantial hindrance and inconvenience and makes it difficult to create a 20 continuous look when the user has to constantly look away to pick up another instrument. 1 Further there is often a requirement of different hygiene requirements for different tools. Still further there is often need for different version of different tools for different persons being groomed. 5 It is therefore an object of the present invention to provide an improved grooming tool that overcomes or at least ameliorates one or more of the problems of the prior art by providing for a single, multipurpose instrument in which a user can conveniently and effectively shape their, or another's eyebrows. 10 Summary of the Invention The invention provides a multi-tooled apparatus provided with a plurality of grooming tools and having a central gripping section to allow selective use of any one of the plurality of grooming tools wherein the grooming tools of the multi-tooled apparatus includes a set of tweezers extending from the central gripping section at one end and at 15 least one of a brush or a comb at another end and the multi-tooled apparatus having one or more of the plurality of grooming tools being mountable to a receiving means integral with the central gripping section to allow ready detachable mounting of at least one of the one or more of the plurality of grooming tools whereby the one or more of the plurality of grooming tools are detachable to allow ready washing or ready replacement. 20 The mounting of at least one of the plurality of grooming tools to the multi-tooled apparatus can be a male - female connection, and the connection can include a locking mechanism to prevent unwanted detachment. 2 The multi-tooled apparatus can include a permanent elongated tool of the plurality of grooming tools connected integral with the central gripping section to provide a ready base for connection of one or more other of the plurality of grooming tools. 5 In one form of the invention there is provided a grooming apparatus being a multi-tooled apparatus having: an intermediate portion forming a handle as a central gripping portion, a plurality of grooming apparatuses including a grooming brush and/or comb and a set of tweezers extending from the intermediate portion, and a pair of tweezers extending from the intermediate portion; wherein the intermediate portion forming a handle allows use of 10 the grooming brush and/or comb, or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation; and including a mounting means integral with the intermediate portion for receiving the plurality of grooming apparatuses wherein at least one of the grooming brush and/or comb, or the pair of tweezers is detachable from the intermediate portion. 15 It can be seen that the invention provides a multi-tooled apparatus provided with a plurality of grooming tools and having a central gripping section to allow selective use of any one of the plurality of grooming tools. The multi-tooled apparatus can have one or more of the plurality of grooming tools being 20 detachable to allow ready washing or ready replacement. Preferably the plurality of grooming tools is each made from materials to allow ready washing or hygienic rejuvenation. 3 At least one of the tools can be of different material to another of the plurality of tools in order to provide a differing strength element and allow ready replacement of some tools. The multi-tooled apparatus can have one or more of the plurality of grooming tools being 5 mountable to a receiving means integral with the central gripping section to allow ready detachable mounting of a selected tool to the multi-tooled apparatus. The mounting of tools to the multi-tooled apparatus can be a male - female connection. The connection can include a locking mechanism to prevent unwanted detachment. 10 Preferably the multi-tooled apparatus includes a permanent elongated tool connected with the central gripping section to provide a ready base for connection of one or more other of the plurality of grooming tools. 15 In accordance with one form of the invention there is provided a grooming apparatus being a tweezer multi tool comprising of a pair of tweezers on one end and a brow brush on the other end wherein an intermediate handle with grip lines allows use of each. The grooming apparatus can be substantially elongated, extending in a linear 20 arrangement. In this way the use of a tool at one end between the fingers of the user allows the other end to extend over the thumb connection to the hand and allow a painting or writing use of the tool. However the other way is to finger hold the intermediate portion and to have the non use part extend within the enclosure of the grasping hand while the usable tool protrudes. 4 The invention also provides a grooming apparatus having: an intermediate portion forming a handle, a grooming brush and/or comb extending from the intermediate portion, and a pair of tweezers extending from the intermediate portion; wherein the 5 intermediate portion forming a handle allows use of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation. Preferably at least one of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers is detachable from the intermediate portion. 10 The intermediate portion can be a rigid connection. Preferably it provides a stabilising effect and at least partially aids the function of one of the attached extending grooming tools. 15 In one form the at least one of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers is detachable from the intermediate portion to allow ready cleaning in that each could be made from differing materials requiring differing cleaning techniques. The detachability can also allow ready replacement of one part. 20 With this product you have both tools in the one hand; there is no need to switch between hands anymore you only have to rotate the tool. 5 Further the apparatus allows ready use and detachability of different grooming tools attached to a pair of tweezers. This can be differing brushes due to different shapes, thickness or sensitivity of groomed area. 5 The invention also provides a grooming apparatus in the form of a set of tweezers having a connection means for receiving connection to another grooming tool to allow use of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation. 10 The invention also provides a grooming apparatus in the form of a brush and/or comb having a connection means for receiving connection to another grooming tool such as a pair of tweezers to allow use of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation. 15 The invention also provides a mounting means that can form an intermediate portion for receiving a plurality of grooming apparatuses in the form of a grooming brush and/or comb and a set of tweezers having a connection means for receiving connection to the plurality of grooming tools to allow use of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation. 20 6 Brief Description of the Drawings In order that the invention is more clearly understood embodiments will be described by way of illustration with reference to the drawings wherein: Figure 1 is a perspective view of a grooming apparatus in accordance with a first 5 embodiment of the invention; Figure 2 is a plan view of the grooming apparatus of claim 1; Figure 3 is a perspective view of a brush/comb part of the grooming apparatus of Figure 1; Figure 4 is a perspective view of an intermediate handle part of the grooming 10 apparatus of Figure 1; Figure 5 is a plan view and a cross sectional view of the intermediate handle part of the grooming apparatus of Figure 4; Figure 6 is a perspective view of a tweezer part of the grooming apparatus of Figure 1; 15 Figure 7 is a plan view of the components of the tweezer part of the grooming apparatus of Figure 6; Best Method of Performing the Invention Referring to the drawings there is shown a grooming apparatus having an intermediate 20 portion forming a handle, a grooming brush and/or comb extending from the intermediate portion, and a pair of tweezers extending from the intermediate portion, wherein the intermediate portion forming a handle allows use of the grooming brush and/or comb or the pair of tweezers in a single handed manipulation. 7 The material used is stainless steel and plastic (nylon). The grooming apparatus 11 consists of three parts made separately and then joined together. This comprises an intermediate portion 13 forming a handle, a grooming brush 5 and/or comb 12, extending from the intermediate portion 13, and a pair of tweezers 14 extending from the intermediate portion 13. The first part of the tweezer 14 is made from spring stainless steel. 10 The second part is the handle (or stem) 13 which is made from straight stainless. This firstly adds to the aesthetics of the whole product but secondly it is easy to keep clean and it will last quite a long time. Thirdly weight is important as it is made in such a way that it is very light, the stem is not solid but is bored out so there is only a 4mm wall around the stem thus reducing as much weight as possible. However, since it is 15 stainless steel it is still very strong. The third part 12 is the brush head which is made from a plastic most probably nylon. The brush has two parts the comb side and the brush side. The comb side is a small comb similar to a normal hair comb; the brush side is like a small hair brush. 20 There can be two products, a salon grade and a consumer model. The salon model is for salon use or professional use. The salon environment is the major user and beneficiary of the design and construction of the grooming apparatus. Sanitisation and hygiene in a salon environment is critical, which is why the grooming apparatus brush head can be 8 designed to be replaceable, this is also because the solution used to clean the stainless steel tweezer corrodes plastic so the head can be removed and sanitised separately. The salon only has to purchase the replaceable heads instead of having to replace the whole unit. 5 The consumer model is very similar to the salon model the only difference is the head is not replaceable. In more detail it can be seen that the three parts of the grooming apparatus 11 have 10 interconnecting fitting. The intermediate portion 13 forming a handle is substantially a cylindrical stem 31 having at one end a coaxial cylindrical hole 32 with a side circular channel 33 extending therefrom. In the middle of the stem is a handle portion form of a plurality of parallel 15 coaxial gripping rings and recesses therebetween to form a readily finger controllable portion. At the other end of the stem 31 is a pair of jaws 35, 36 fitting within the cylindrical extension of the stem 31 and having a mouth 37 therebetween with side slits. The grooming brush and comb 12 is able to be mounted and extend from the 20 intermediate portion 13. The grooming brush and comb 12 has a main body 21 with the comb 22 extending within its length in one outwardly direction and the brush 23 extending from opposite side of the main body 21 and also extending within its length but in a directly opposing outwardly direction. The main body 21 extends at right angles to the outwardly direction of the brush 23 and comb 22 and has a pair of spaced but 9 inwardly deflectable arms 28 fitting within the end opening of the cylindrical hole 32 of the intermediate portion 13. A protrusion 29 on the outer side of one of the inwardly deflectable arms 28 is able to fit within the cylindrical hole 32 of the intermediate portion 13 when arms 28 are deflected and then to lock in position in the side circular channel 5 33 when released and prevent longitudinal removal until arms 28 are deflected again by pushing the protrusion 29 out of the side circular channel 33. The pair of tweezers 14 extending from the intermediate portion 13 is able to be held within the mouth 37 of the jaws 35 36 of the intermediate portion 13. Preferably they can 10 be retained permanently. While we have described herein a particular embodiment of a grooming apparatus, it is further envisaged that other embodiments of the invention could exhibit any number and combination of any one of the features previously described. However, it is to be 15 understood that any variations and modifications which can be made without inventiveness and without departing from the spirit and scope thereof is incorporated within the scope of this invention. In particular the grooming apparatus can be made as a single article. Further there 20 could be a non linear arrangement of the parts and even a pivotal connection of the parts of the grooming apparatus. 10
